NEAL ADAMS TEAMS WITH FRANK MILLER FOR BATMAN

In talking with ComicMix’s Mike Raub, Neal Adams confirmed not only that he is working with Frank Miller on a Batman project, but moreso, the title of the miniseries is Batman: Odyssey, and will run, according to Adams, between six and eight issues. Adams created, plots, and pencils (and inks issues #1-#2), while Miller is scripting. Adams reportedly had the full pencils and inks on display at the New York Comic Con.

“Essentially, it’s sort of an epic story of Batman,” Adams said on the ComicMix podcast (at roughly 2:00 in). “Frank Miller has agreed to dialogue it for me, and I’m probably going to ink a couple of the books, but we’re going to get some other inkers to do it who’ve sort of been champing at the bit to ink my stuff over the years, and now they’re going to get their shot.

“In my mind, it was going to be six issues, but I really can’t make it less than eight issues, so I’m going to do eight issues, even if I have to do two for free – I’m just kidding.”

When asked for more information on, or a confirmation of the series by Newsarama, DC declined comment.

Miller and Adams had long been rumored to be working together on some Batman project, though speculation most recently ran towards Adams penciling the second arc of All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder.

Why would there be 4 months between issues? Is Jim Lee or the Kubert brothers somehow involved in this project?

I love both of their works, especially on Batman. Hope this turns out as great as it sounds!

If they can keep a decent schedule this will be killer.

Dream creator team up and Adams is long overdue to return to comics.

The best thing he could do art-wise is avoid the perpetually black forehead. That makes me think "old batman" faster than anything else.

No doubt. Miller's not to blame for All Star Batman being late. He's to blame for it sucking, but not to blame for it being late. And if he's just scripting, then I figure he can't do too much damage.

Plus, Neal's got that old time work ethic I wish more of the new guys had.

Yeah, yeah, great...

Now, if we could get DC to reissue the three Neal Adam's BATMAN hardcovers as they were originally published, without that annoying "enhacement" and tinkering by Adams and that atrocious recoloring...

THAT would be great. But Neal Adams today? Not a shadow of the incredible creator he was. Sadly a has-been...

They had me at "Neal Adams."

Then they lost me again with "Frank Miller."

Wink

I hope this turns out to be true. Not having DC confirm this makes
me suspicious that we will get a Adams-Miller mini. Looking forward to
having other inkers on Adams' pencils. I haven't been happy with Neal's
inks recently, as they don't have the depth and weight that made his
early seventies work so fantastic.

If Neal wants to bring Batman to us with the black forehead on is cowl I
very much look forward to that look. I'm getting all nostalgic just thinking
of a old dog learning new tricks (Batman, not Neal).

Woooooah. Neal Adams on Batman again? Holy crap that is amazing. Frank Miller doing scripts? Well, as long as he has gotten all of the "Goddamn Batman" out of his system, you can totally count me in for this one!

If this is Adams plotting and Miller scripting, like it sounds, it could be really great.

If it's Miller plotting, I dunno.

I remember when the mention of Miller's name on a project universily caused shock and awe. Now it seems to cause shocked and aw(ful).

What a difference almost twenty years makes.

this is what's wrong with comics today
while no fan of all-star Batman, why announce a NEW series about Batman when Miller's not even done the LAST Batman project he was working on.
the hype's always on the next project. after the No. 1 issue gets out, for some, their attention starts to wander

Artists don't become has-beens. They fall in and out of favor, some of their work is less good than other of their work, age may alter their style one way or another, but they're never has-beens. The Adams of 2007 may not be the Adams of 1967, but nothing alters what he did then or decreases interest in his current take on Batman. His version of Batman has been the definitive one for 40 years - curiosity would be intense if he drew the book in crayon.

While I was at NY Comicon this past Saturday, I was standing at Neal's table (having him autograph my X-Men Visionaries book) when Paul Levitz walks up right next to me and starts talking with Neal... Neal pulls out photocopies of the Batman pages that he's working on and shows them to Paul, and they chatted about them for a minute... from what I saw of the pages, I can tell you that they looked ABSOLUTELY AMAZING... it was such a great moment to be a fan.

Why don't they just make this a storyline on AS Batman.... as long as it takes Frank Quitely to get an issue done on AS Superman... Jim Lee takes even LONGER...why did he even decide to pencil WildCATS when he cant even get the Batman drawn?
