DC ANNOUNCES CONTENT CHANGE FOR WONDER WOMAN #5
Press Release
WONDER WOMAN #5 (JAN070319), which was previously slated to feature the final chapter of the 5-part story "Who Is Wonder Woman," will feature a new story when it arrives in stores on March 14.
This new story is by Will Pfeifer (CATWOMAN, AMAZONS ATTACK), with art by Jean Diaz, Geraldo Borges and Wellington Diaz and a cover by Terry Dodson & Rachel Dodson. In it, Wonder Woman learns that a new women's movement has begun, inspired by her killing of Max Lord - and leaving Diana torn between the good intentions of the movement and the validation it gives her violent act. Worse yet, she's ordered to investigate a possible connection between Wonder Woman and this movement by Sarge Steel and the department of Metahuman Affairs!
Chapter five of "Who Is Wonder Woman" will be rescheduled at a future date.
Retailers may adjust orders on WONDER WOMAN #5 (JAN070319) now through its final order cutoff date of Thursday, February 22.
Also, orders for the WONDER WOMAN: WHO IS WONDER WOMAN? HC (FEB070299) have been cancelled. This title will be resolicited at a future date. Newsarama Note: Wonder Woman #1 hit stores on June 7th of 2006; #2 on August 23rd, 2006; #3 on November 22nd, 2206; and #4 is due in stores on February 21st.

Smart, but unfortunately necessary move by DC. Better to get some Wonder Woman content out there than nothing at all.

Wow. Very sad that DC's Holy Trinity has been plagued by fill-ins and delays.

They sort of had to do something; if they waited around for Heinberg to get around to honoring his commitment, they'd never be able to kick off Jodi Piccoult's run. That would mean pushing back Amazons Attack, too.
It never fails to disappoint me when I read that stuff like this has to happen. I should be used to it by now, but it really bugs me that DC and Marvel continue to farm out their books to folks who are either too busy or too disinterested or too damn anal retentive to complete their books in a reasonably timely manner. I can see a few weeks late, okay, big deal, as long as it's not every issue. But months late? That's out of the question unacceptable, at least to this consumer.

Well, I wonder how much the Heinberg conclusion will have to do with the Amazon story/Jodi story.
Hollywood people should stick to mini's until they prove their speed.

Allan Heinberg needs to only be allowed to do mini-series at this point. He can tell what stories he wants, but they can either be held back or come out with a trickle without hurting things this much.

How hard is it to write 22 pages? I have a busy life too but I could write 22 pages in six months.

Look kids! More filler issues on DC's top titles!
What makes this just insane is that the arc has already been delayed beyond belief. And to think, a few months ago fans were so excited with this relaunch and the Whedon movie. Now all their hopes are gone

Man, will DC or Marvel please give the fantastic Dodsons a writer that comes through with scripts? First Kevin Smith (Which was the WORST of ludicrous delays) now Allan Heinberg, it makes it a little tough as a big fan of their artwork.
I understand that comics are just a part time thing for Heinberg, and I think he's an excellent writer, but something has to change.

This is insane. How the hell do you screw up so badly that you have to change the arc midway through. it's only been what? Three issues? Now they have to do something completely different? The May solicitation indicates a Wonder Woman #9, how the hell is that going to happen? When May is only 3 months away. Plus Wonder Woman was supposed to lead into Amazons Attacks, how is that supposed to happen when AA starts in April and Wonder Woman may be getting out issue 5 (maybe).
I love the Dodson's which is the main reason for collecting this book. But this is a waste of time. I shouldn't have to keep going back to earlier issues each time it comes out to remember what teh hell was going on. WW#4 better end properly so issue 5 can get the comic back on track.

wow - this is seriously pathetic. i'm not one to complain about these things normally, but Heinberg can't even finish the story? he should not have taken this commitment on - plain and simple.
and what's most frustrating is that anyone who reads Young Avengers saw this coming from the minute they announced him as writer. it was unrealistic, given his inability to even get that book out on a semi-regular basis.

Agreed! What's even more asinine is Heinberg was, apparently, remodeling the character for the next generation. And yet all he's offered up is a return to Diana Prince, cribbing on a version of the character that was dull the FIRST time around (IMHO) and the seventh or eight revision of Circe. Oh, and Heracles/Herakles/Champion coming back. Oh, and Donna Troy looking like a rank amateur.
Yeah, thanks for all those contributions, Allan. Hope the character hasn't changed much beyond that before you finally finish the storyline.

I'm all for quality over speed, and you know what? Give a guy a bi-monthly if he needs it, but seriously, 60 days for 22 pages? Is it possible this is the Dodson's fault?

I don't blame the writer. The fault is entirely DCs. They knew he was unreliable based on Young Avengers. They also knew he was only doing 5 issues. They should never have solicited the first issue until he had turned in the script for the 5th issue.

Nope, because the Dodsons are already working on issues 8 and 9 of Jodi's run. They just can't do issue 5 until they get a script.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I mean really, is this that surprising? That's like not expecting a high school girl to get knocked up before graduating. In this day and age late books are allowed and it pisses me off that it occurs during a time when comic purchases are at an all time high.
Bet you dollars to donuts, if the industry wasn't so healthy they'd do anything, even put out a book on time, to get your hard earned money.
How hard is it to ask a writer and artist to complete work within a set time and then solicit the book once all the work is completed?

I think Dan Didio should be fired for all this stuff.
Also that there are a few people here who are a bit too sympathetic/syncophantic when it comes to late books and flaky creators.

Honestly, Will Pfiefer writing for Wonder Woman is one of the few reasons to read the book, in my opinion. He was rock solid on Captain Atom: Armeggedon and Infinite Crisis: The Spectre.
