Action Comics 2007

Hey, all -

I want to thank all of you who are reading Action Comics and apologize for the delays in the current LAST SON storyline.

Unfortunately, Adam Kubert is obviously taking much longer than anyone hoped. His work is beautiful, but it's taking a long time - for the record, it's not me and Donner. It's become a common assumption that "Hollywood" writers are slow. Donner is not.

On that front, of course DC wants Action Comics out every month. And it should be, if not more (which it will be later in 2007).

I apologize to everyone on the wait and delays, but I hope you've been enjoying the storyline and the Annual.

Fortunately, Action 850 turned into, what I think, is a great anniversary issue. We're already working ahead of Adam with the next artist that's going to take over Action Comics so we're way ahead of the game.

We hate having this story interrupted too, trust me, but at least they're going to be good. And it won't happen again.

Thanks again,

Geoff

Thanks for the heads up, Geoff.

But what's this about a new artist?

Not to worry, sir. I'm loving the direction DC has been taking with Superman as of late (indeed, much of DC's direction in general) and eagerly anticipate whatever is upon the horizon, whenever it may arrive.

Thanks for telling great stories.

Thumbs up

The artist change is good news to me. The stories have been great, but the art has made it hard to re-read. Good move.

Are they cutting "Last Son" down an issue? I thought it was supposed to be a six part story, but with the fill-in and #850, it looks like a five parter.

what I'm calling "The Donnervision" run on action comics, in my opinion, is some of the finest Comiccing I've read. I mean really.
Geoff and Richard are apparently complimenting each other's skills (and flaws? A little extra mythos-focus goes a LONG way with Geoff)
and the art is ALL wonderful. Not overdrawn.

Often when describing art, I'll say "Judging from the ammount of detail and substance on the panel, this looks like it was drawn at equal printing size." which is lame
but not Action Comics, action looks like it's drawn on pieces of paper the size of walls
BUT at the same time, it looks like it's being drawn with pencils and markerts the size of pylons, so there's still a hand-drawn charm, a kind of classiness exclusive to comics.

All-Star Superman is fun,
and Superman Declassified is great
but this run - Last Son I hear the name is - this is going to be the one people talk about in ten years.

His contract is up at Marvel. It may have even been announced that he was coming back to DC, but I'm not positive.

Seriously, I can't wait for what comes next. Action Comics looks to be one of the best books onthe stands in 2007.
