TRANSFORMERS MOVIE PREQUEL #1

IDW has provided Newsarama with a six page preview of The Transformers Movie Prequel #1, due in stores on February 21st.

The solicitation for the issue reads:

Simon Furman & Chris Ryall (w), Don Figueroa (a & c); Josh Burcham (colors)

Before the live-action Transformers movie spectacularly explodes onto theater screens next summer, read the official beginning of the story right here! In this four-part prequel to the film, “Prime Directive” written by Ryall and Furman and featuring artist Don Figeruoa’s take on the movie characters, travel from CYBERTRON to Earth as we see what momentous events led to the Transformers bringing their war to our world. In issue one, BUMBLEBEE and a cadre of AUTOBOTS experience the lethal battle of Tyger Pax!

So does this mean the movie could be Matrix Quest but set on Earth?
That might work, especially if Prime gets upgraded if he finds it.

Oh, and first, first post ever.

No it ain't.
Nearly, dammit, nearly..........

I haven't quite dug the designs thus far. They've been horrid. Ironically the toys look a lot better. This isn't so bad either, though hardly TF in my opinion. At $4 an issue for something I don't like, the rest of the pages will have to convince me.

The art to this prequel is nice though. I just hope we see Don doing more G1 or WW work after this.

there's something a little too generic about the transformers on that cover
i'm sure they'll look better in the movie after they take familiar forms
i guess I'm cautiously optimistic, but prepared for the worst

I'm getting it.
Don's work alone is enough for me. I'm pleased to see the changed from his usual style here, its far different from the Animated Movie comics in his animation cell style. Its nice when an artist can flex their artistic muscles like this in issues just month's apart.

IDW Provided SEIBERTRON.com's staff with an advance copy of the issue. Check out the full review at their site. http://www.seibertron.com/news/view.php?id=9447 Looks like it will be one of the few books worth shelling out 4 bucks for.

"...non-existent time nevertheless starts to tick inexorably away..."

"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth, Megatron"

Geez, who writes this crap? Lucas?

Nice.

I decided long ago not to pick any of these up, about the time I stopped getting Transformers comics altogether. I realized that I had purchased quite a few and never read a single issue that was any good. They'll get their gaurenteed geek money without having to make it worthwhile. Pirceless

Actually you can take almost any comic from the 90's and say the same thing...and while not being a big fan of the redesigns, I have been faithfully reading TF comics since the 80's... and love Don's work...should be good.

It's not a "prequel" if it comes out first. It's just...how you say? "First."

everything associated with this movie has just looked generic. they could have done something else with that cover.

and it seems this might suffer the same problem i had with most DW/IDW transformers comics, the colors being way too damn dark.

This ain't your older brother's Transformers

A part of me wishes they stuck with the designs from my youth, but the other part realizes the designs have been updated to "meet the times"

I will not pass judgement until I see the movie (or a trailer with better TransformerS)

I for one am looking forward to BIONICLE: THE MOVIE (this is what I've decided to call it, because this sure ain't Transformers)

Going into this with an open mind. Of course I'd rather have the G1 transformers of my youth, but I'll give it a shot. As long as i get a decent story and lots of robots I'll be okay. And Bumblebee is in it! :Crosses fingers for Jazz:

It's a prequel from the point of view of the movie.

i dont recall autobots and decepticons named Megatron and Optimus that turned into vehicles and other assorted things. From what i remember BIONICLE has nothing to do with that. But then again that would require reason to realize that. Doesnt seem like thats your strong suit.

Yes, I think he was refering to the fact that the designs for the characters presented in the movie have a strong resemblence to the popular BIONICLE toyline. And he's right.

uhm...what would a better cover had been?
It's showing all the characters in the war comic fighting.

A bit cliche? sure...but seriously, what were you wanting?

This looks bad. I hope the movie ends up being better than it's looking, but I still think they shoulda just went and called this something other than Transformers. Only the names are similar right? Nothing else so far looks anything like Transformers.
