WHEDON OFF WONDER WOMAN FILM
In a post on the Wedonesque website, Joss Whedon has apparently announced that he is no longer invovled with the Wonder Woman movie
Whedon posted:
You (hopefully) heard it here first: I'm no longer slated to make Wonder Woman. What? But how? My chest... so tight! Okay, stay calm and I'll explain as best I can. It's pretty complicated, so bear with me. I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked. Hey, not that complicated.
Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time. I don't think any of us expected it to this time, but it did. Everybody knows how long I was taking, what a struggle that script was, and though I felt good about what I was coming up with, it was never gonna be a simple slam-dunk. I like to think it rolled around the rim a little bit, but others may have differing views.
The worst thing that can happen in this scenario is that the studio just keeps hammering out changes and the writer falls into a horrible limbo of development. These guys had the clarity and grace to skip that part. So I'm a free man.
Well, sorta. There is that "Goners" movie I can finally finish polishing, and plenty of other things in the hopper I've wanted to pursue. I'm as relieved as I am disappointed, and both of those things lead to drink, so that's a plus. Truly, you may be hearing some interesting things brewing in the coming months. But all potential jets therein will be visible.
But most importantly, I never have to answer THAT question again!!!! And you don't have to link to every rumor site! Finally and forever: I never had an actress picked out, or even a consistant front-runner. I didn't have time to waste on casting when I was so busy air-balling on the script. (No! Rim! There was rim!) That's the greatest relief of all. I can do interviews again!
Thanks for your time. You are the people who make the world go 'round. Or, no, science does that.

ps All right, it was Cobie Smulders. Sorry, Cobes.

I love Whedon, so this makes me sad. Especially since elsewhere I had heard the script they want now involves WW in World War II time? That doesn't scream fun to me. :/

Cobie Smulders?! She's gorgeous! Blue-eyed, fresh-faced natural perfection; she'd have been amazing.

Love Whedon's work, but for some reason I never particularly liked the idea of him on Wonder Woman. I really kind of think that the WW movie should be just a straightforward action-movie about a babe in a bustier fighting evil villains. Whedon is good at interjecting dark humor here and there in his stories, but I think WW is something where if you overthink it, you wind up ruining it, and Whedon seemed to really be struggling with the WW story and script in past articles here and there.
So...when does the Whedon for "X-Men 4" campaign begins?

Whedon is good at writing strong female characters. Its a mistake to take him off the project.

Well, this is a shame, but I can understand. Diana is a much MUCH more complicated and convoluted character than Bruce or Clark. Several comic book writers have even commented on how difficult a character she is to grasp.
Truth be told, I'm surprised that no one has thought of maybe bringing Greg Rucka on board after his amazing run on the book. He gets the character and was the only writer to make me actually get AND like Diana.

This is a tradegy. I don't believe that sick $#!t. It must be a typo or something. Joss Whedon does interviews??? Get out of town. I must be dreaming. Well, I know I will be still enjoying his work in Astonishing X-Men, before he jumps ship, (Wuss) I will be reading his Buffy Season eight series.
So Wonder Woman the movie is now held up???
That sucks, but it happens.

I think he should tell his Wonder Woman story in the second arc of All Star Wonder Woman, once Adam Hughes is off it, once it EVENTUALLY comes out.

Danm right - Whedons Astonishing X-Men rocks and I think he could do twice the movie X3 was and probably better than Singer (my love of Singer has taken a little dip since Superman)

David S. Goyer is off the Flash movie too. Just read it at his myspace website. Apparently they are going in a different direction too with Flash.

I'm glad Goyer's off the Flash movie because he's a terrible director and Ryan Reynolds is a terrible choice for anything, let alone the Flash.

Too bad about Joss on WW.
I would liked to see it.
Maybe he'll release what script he had online, like Kevin Smith did for his Superman Lives treatment? (which I have yet to find.)
My hope is that they get Marv Wolfman to adapt Perez' 86 relaunch.
We get Classical Greece, Modern myth meets modern war, and a post-9/11 hijacked missile scare in the Ares Affair.
sounds like a winner to me.

I'm not a big Whedon or Wonder Woman fan so this doesn't bother me. What did bother me was that Whedon didn't want the Wonder Woman costume to have the blue and stars panties. Her costume is iconic. Why change it?

I don't see why? All three of them are pretty much 2-dimensional blank slates. I think writers are overcomplicating things for themselves by buying into all that regal "trinity" stuff. Just make them cool and awesome and kicking a lot of butt. It's a freakin superhero, not the Iliad.

I'm actually relieved. There were so many things he wanted to change that I was afraid when he was on it. Him is prolly for the best.
Also, that WWII-era script, its been said that the film won't be taken place in WWII. It was the writing from those two people who did that script that impressed them.
BTW, did you hear The Flash is shelved too? Goyer off that project?
I went to bluetights and the last message on this topic is that a new announcment will be made on the WW film, prolly on the new director. They said the message came from DC Comics.

Ditto.
Never been a fan of Whedon's stuff and I wasn't too thrilled by the stuff I heard about his take on WW either.
Maybe the movie will finally get made now.Personally.I wouldn't mind a period piece set in WWII.I think that's when most of DC's characters work best anyway.
