BILLY DALLAS PATTON TALKS ZOOM SUIT

Billy Dallas Patton is one of comics’ ten year overnight success stories.

Nose to grindstone for years and dozens of projects, suddenly, Patton seems to be everywhere – a fill-in on DC’s Seven Soldiers: Mr. Miracle #2, Advent Rising, the Heroscape promo that was included inside of recent DC titles, and in April, Zoom Suit.

We spoke with Patton about the latter.

The preview pages have an 'old school' flavor to them. I like it!

But I'm sure there will be plenty of critical posts about it not being "fresh" or "innovative".

well, seeing as Zoom Suit has been around for ages (its even mentioned in a CBR artticle backin March) I think any similarities are purely coincidental.

If nothing else, you have to say this for John Taddeo and crew: They've put a lot into this property and are very enthusiastic over it. They've gone to serious efforts to promote this thing. That's very commendable.

I thought his fill-in issue of Mr Miracle was less than stellar, but he was also going up against Pasqual Ferry and he's pretty bad ass. I went to the site to check this out and wasn't all that impressed.

Thumbs up

Any idea what the low end age is for this? Looks OK for grade four and up to me. I like it.

I assume that the guy falling out of the plane is explained. I'd be ok if it wasn't though. Kind of got a Douglas Adams vibe out of it.

Well, I have read the first issue of Zoom Suit via pdf a little while ago and I think John Taddeo is doing a GREAT job! The story is pretty solid and the artwork is good as well. Plus he has some of the great armored warrior artists of the past doing the covers for him like Bob Layton and Bart Sears along with Billy Tucci. I don't know about you, but I am very excited to see new work from Bob and Bart even if they are just covers - those guys ROCK!

He is also providing retailers with a TON of cool stuff to promote the comic in their shops. Posters, DVDs and card sets to raise awareness of his cool new book!

How many other small companies have gone to the expense of producing a animated short to raise awareness of a new product? In a declining market like comics I think it is quite nice to see somebody aggressively pursuing a new audience by whatever means possible.

I know that I am adding Zoom Suit to my pull list at my local comic shop.

Nice to see you getting more work, BDP! Good stuff and I can't wait to see it all in print form!
