GEOFF JOHNS RENEWS DC EXCLUSIVE FOR 3 YEARS
Though in our new Newsarama Reader Q&A, Geoff Johns said he’d like to work with Marvel Comics again someday, it’s going to be at least 1095 of them. Though not unexpected, Tuesday DC announced Johns has extended his exclusive agreement with the publisher by three years.
DC’s announcement reads:
Geoff Johns, the superstar writer of INFINITE CRISIS, GREEN LANTERN, TEEN TITANS, JSA and more, has extended his exclusive agreement with DC Comics by three years.
“I started at DC with STARS & S.T.R.I.P.E. and I’ve never stopped having fun,” says Johns. “I’m working with the best people in the business — my fellow writers, artists and editors. And with INFINITE CRISIS just about here (finally!) and Grant Morrison, Mark Waid, Greg Rucka and Keith Giffen on this insane jam series known as 52, I’m really excited for what tomorrow brings. Thanks to everyone, the readers and the retailers, for their support. My family and I appreciate it more than words could ever say. I would also like to take this opportunity to ask if anyone can help with the Red Cross’s efforts throughout the South, and my wife’s home city of New Orleans in particular, please go to www.redcross.org and give what you can. Thank you so much.”
“So much of DC’s current success can be attributed to Geoff’s selfless dedication to telling great stories and making great comics,” says Dan DiDio, VP — Executive Editor, DCU. As mentioned, check out Johns’ two-part, over 370-question reader Q&A by clicking on the links for:

My only complaint about Geoff Johns is that he left AVENGERS too soon, and the writers who followed him...have...uh...not been great.
Congrats and thanks for the best team book (JSA) on the market.

THE MOST SHOCKING NEWS EVER!
Anyhoo, I don't think Johns would like to go back on Avengers, I heard editorial made him decompress everything.

Great news! I never really caught on to his Marvel work (was it just Avengers?) but i love all of his DC stuff. It seems like he just fits better with the DC universe in much the same way as Greg Rucka IMHO.From his Q&A marathon i get the feeling that he's going to be working on Batman and possibly Superman in the near future. Hope my instinct is correct

Congrats to Geoff! I liked his Avengers run which was way too short but nonetheless enjoyable. It would be nice to see him do more Marvel work but he has plenty to keep him busy over at DC. I wish him the best.

Kind of disappointing. I really enjoyed his Avengers run, and would love to see his X-Men (like he kept mentioning in the Q&A). I've had mixed feelings about his DC stuff, although I enjoyed the JLA arc he did with Heinberg and I liked GL Corps too. If that little mini series he's writing that comes out is any good I might not mind so much.

I am like...so shocked that he re-signed. I mean, it's not like he was doing great stories with D.C's characters, is it?
I mean just because his JSA is one of the best comics I've ever read and he returned one of my favourite characters to prominence with Green Lantern...I mean why should he stay at D.C. just because of that.
Congratulations D.C., for keeping a great writer in house.
Three More Years!!!!! YES!!!!!!

I don't think anyone in the whole comic book industry works as hard or deserves mores an exclusivity contract than Geoff Johns.

So he fixed Hawkman's continuity. Big deal!
He made the JSA a successful and respected team. Whatever.
He fixed Hal Jordan and brought him back into the fort. Yawn.
He's currently and successfully writing Teen Titans, JSA, Infinity Crisis, Green Lantern, and had an amazing run on Flash, and has more coming. I can do that with my eyes closed.
He has a great relationship with everyone at DC and the fans too.
He has a firm grasp of DC history and continuity.
Currently has most of the DC fans and comic book creators with eyes peeled and excited with anticipation, what with Infinity Crisis.
For the life of me I can't understand what DC sees in this hack.

Geoff has done good work, and lots of it, for DC, so it's good to see he's staying around (and presumably, being well-paid to do so).

Man, this totally wins Least Surprising Press Release of All Time.
It's a good one, though. I'm thrilled that someone so enthusiastic about the characters is sticking around.

Ah Yeah!
Glad to hear the best writer in the industry is sticking to doing what he does best: Crafting a hell of an interesting future for the DCU. He's the man and he's done some absolutely wonderful work with an amazing success rate. He's made some of the most obscure characters into major players and I know that Infinite Crisis is going to really deliver.
And add another voice to the chorus that thinks that Geoff has made JSA the best book on the market. Period. Absolutely brilliant stuff and a textbook example of how to handle a team book. Teen Titans is a close second though.

What a surprising development! NOT!
I mean, did anyone expect him to jump ship in the middle of the Infinite 52 Rann of Villain OMAC Identity Vengeance Crisis?
Now, THAT would have been interesting news
