Hey, why does the House of Mystery Showcase edition start with House of Mystery #174? Was it under a different title before that?

I guess they figured it'd be an easier sell with three $14.99 books instead of one $50.00 book.

Eh, DC really couldn't win on that one. If they collect each mini individually lose out on the Seven Soldiers prologue and epilogue issues. If they collect the entire story sequentially, then they can't collect each mini seperately.

If this Alan Moore collection was truly complete, it would also include the never before reprinted Saga of The Swamp Thing #20, which is Alan's VERY FIRST DC story. Try again DC.

Yeah, I'm not sure I like this idea. I would've prefered collecting the individual minis seperately. Even though they all connect to each other, each mini is its own story.

What if they did the #0, and then all seven #1s for volume 1, all seven #2s for volume 2, etc. And have 7S#1 in volume 4?
It doesn't matter to me though because I'm actually buying the singles, so screw you waiting for trade guys
That Moore thing's going to be awesome.
Weird, they didn't mark Sacrifice as a Wonder Woman story, just a Superman one. Or even Superman/Batman/Wonder-Woman: Sacrifice. *shrug*

Obviously, they're publishing the entire thing in the actual reading order, which I think is gutsy and fabulous.

The book is for Alan Moore DC Universe stories. Last time I checked, Swamp Thing isn't exactly in the DC Universe.

Bearing in mind most may already have all that work by Moore in other places anyway, I must say: that's one great cover by Bolland. Technically flawless, playful, witty.

Eeeerrrmmm. Swamp Thing had a Crisis crossover when Moore was writing. Which part of 'not in the DC Universe' are you having problems with?

Check again. Swamp Thing was under the DCU when Moore was writing it. In fact, the JLA feature very prominently in the first storyline, and also crossed over into Crisis (the original one) later on.
DC probably does not want to include it because it ends in a cliffhanger, as it ties up loose ends from the previous writers run and sets up Alan's run. It would be nice if it was included for completist sake.

Green Arrow Showcase? My fav character? hells yeah. And a new tarde putting me up to date witht he current tiel? you go DC!
House of Mystery Showcase? Don't know what its about. Is it an anthology? Whatever,t hat many writers and artists I'll shell cash for.
Maxx vol. 6.
Death and Return of Donna Troy because I'm getting all the Crisis stuff(minus Sacrifice tarde since the one issue I need is in the OMAC trade)
Seven Soldiers because I'm so in love with the issues.
And of course the Alan Moore book.

Because the story doesn't go in that order. With the singles, tho, the whole thing is modular... with the trade, I guess you'll have to read it all in order of release.
Mmm. Love my singles.
Anyway! I'll have to buy the Moore trade, and the Kid Eternity trade.
And, dammit, that House of Mystery trade should include the Martian Manhunter issues, not random horror! Pffh.

I believe he's part of the DC Universe, just like the Endless and John Constantine are.

Swamp Thing was under the DCU banner. He (or it rather) isn't anymore. Since Swamp Thing is currently under the Vertigo banner, I would assume that the collected editions editors decided not to include the early Swamp Thing issues in a book that is clearly DCU-centric, i.e. features prominent characters that are strictly tied into current DCU continuity.
I do find it odd that Swamp Thing is on the cover of the book though...

Alan Moore's Swamp Thing featured the JLA, the Demon, Deadman, Phantom Stranger, the Spectre, Zatanna, Mento, Zatarra, Baron Winters, Sargon the Sorcerer, Batman, Lex Luthor, Adam Strange, an alien Green Lantern, Metron and Darkseid, among others. Rick Veitch kept up that tradition with his time travel story.
At some point, DC really should collect Swamp Thing #20. Heck, do a Saga of the Swamp Thing Showcase if they don't think it will stand alone. I bet the Bissette and Totleben art will look really sharp in that format.
Edit: BTW, Swamp Thing is on the cover of the book due to his "team up" with Superman in DC Comics Presents "The Jungle Line".

Really? Just to get this straight, can he or can't he appear in regular DC universe comics?
By the by, one of the stories in the Alan Moore tpb is about Superman getting high with some weird plant or rock (I forget) and the Swamp Thing saving his ass. But I guess that'a ok because story revolves around Superman and not Swamp Thing. That would make sense right?
