CN'S TEEN TITANS - NO SEASON SIX.

According to Titans Tower.com and other various sites, it appears that Cartoon Networks’ Teen Titans series will soon meet the fate of other Warner Brothers’ animated series and go quietly into dead air.

Titans Tower quotes an unnamed source close to the series in saying that Cartoon Network has passed on the option of a sixth season of the animated series based on the DC Comics property. Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond and The New Batman Adventures all met similar fates in their day, each lasting between 3-5 seasons, and many returning to life in direct-to-video releases.

As with the ends of other series, fans have mobilized and are currently organizing petition drives and letter-writing campaigns to Cartoon Network and WB.

From the Titans Tower.com plea:

If you feel there are more Titans stories to be told, let Cartoon Network know how you feel. Snail mail is the most effective way. Scores of individual letters have the most impact; Petitions are generally worthless in networks' eyes. The best bet is to start a letter writing campaign with individual heartfelt letters stating you would like the show to continue. MAKE SURE TO PUT "SAVE TEEN TITANS!" BIG AND BOLD ON THE OUTSIDE ENVELOPE!

This week’s episode of the series features Kid Flash’s first appearance as a Teen Titan, and the season itself is building to the climax of “Titan Hunt” with the Brotherhood of Evil tracking and capturing as many of the young heroes as it can. The first season DVD set of the series is due out on February 7th.

I'm a huge fan of the Perez Titans...and even though the show isn't quite the same, it does a nice job of refurbishing the classic team for a modern audience.

I think the design for Cyborg is awesome ... and should be incorporated into the comic. Same with the Doom Patorl.

The designs for Terra, Garfield and Raven aren't that memorable.

Loved the opening theme song (when sung in English).

The show just had a good energy. I suppose it's not Manga enough for their Saturday night line up. Too bad! I don't know how anyone can watch that stuff -- pretty, metrosexual male characters with booming voices like Darth Vader -- just unwatchable!

Aaaaand this is the the only comment of "I never liked it, I never watched it, I'm glad it won't be on anymore so I can't not watch it harder" that this thread will bear.

Opinions are fine, but let's aim a little higher than "good" or "it suxored."

I just don't understand Cartoon Network. They will renew and replay crap like Ed Edd and Eddy ad nauseum, but they hardly ever show reruns of Justice Leage or JLU, and now they cancel a great show like TT. Without, not to mention, seeing how well the first season DVD will sell, which could be quite well (especially if they had been smart enough to release it before christmas). Throw in their refusal to sell season sets of the Justice League shows, and cartoon network continually drops the ball with the DC shows...

Dang.

This is one of the few shows on television that my whole family can sit down and enjoy together. Me, my wife, and my kid all have our favorite characters and episodes.

Bummer.

Like it or not...

Like it or not, this was a great show to bridge the gap between the comics and the kids who aren't reading them. I'm a teacher and the Titans are hugely popular with the kids in our school. Some of them have probably picked up the comics as a result. Keep in mind, this show wasn't made for single, 24 year old, comic book reading males. It was made for kids and I think it's been pretty successful in that respect.

It wasn't my favorite show (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Megas XLR are way better) but it was good filler, like The Kids Next Door. Something I can watch over and over in the background.

So I'm sad to see it go, because the reruns will rapidly become repetitive with no new matterial.

Speaking of JLU, are they still airing new episodes? I heard there was a new one a while back, but I have no idea when the show airs now. Cartoon Network's site hasn't been much help either.

Anyone else know when they show is on?

Titans was a fun show and I'll miss it, but at least they're actually putting this one out on DVD! I'm crossing my fingers for a season of Justice League...

This seriously does not rock. The show has a lot of life left in it, and so many different directions to go.

Maybe they have something new in the works, though? I heard rumors about a LoSH animated series, but since I don't know much about that particular team, I'm not quite stoked...though interested.

Maybe we'll get a Young Justice? Which, okay, doubtful, since they wouldn't be able to use Wonder Girl and Superboy due to legality issues or some such. It might actually free up Robin to make an appearance in "The Batman", though...

Can I point out that this online campaign is most likely a wasted effort, given that 65-and-out is the standard for half-hour action shows, not just at CN, but throughout the industry?

I got my nephew reading comic books because of Teen Titans. He adores Beast Boy, and now every time I see him he makes me get him a new Teen Titans Go! comic. I'm happy to do it. I hope it can somehow be saved. The show definitely isn't for hardcore comic readers. But you know what? That's what the comics are for.

Great points. I did love this show, but even more so because my daughter loved it, too. I bought her the teen titans go! comic, which she would bring to her school and share with her friends, all of whom loved it, some even making the hallowed wednesday treck out to the comic store for TTG, the JL comic, or the Mary Jane comic from Marvel. These shows are important for bringing the young-ins into the comic shops, so lets hope the either the petition works, or a new show - maybe doom patrol or the rumored Legion of Super Heroes show - takes its place.

I never cared for it, but I'm 23. The nieces and nephew enjoyed it alot, they even danced to the theme song.

Lets not forget that the CARTOON network is now showing LIVE ACTION movies to fill dead air between those Ed Edd and Eddy mini-marathons.

Teen Titans was a great all-ages show. It didn't talk down to kids, and it had plots that also kept the adults interested. I'm sad to see it go. There should be more shows like this, not less.

New Justice League starts in January. Check out Comics Continuum; they do a great job of updating the new comic 'toons' schedules:

It has had some brilliant episodes, and some things I've absolutely hated (taking all the oomph out of the Judas Contract, making Slade a complete one dimensional character, and all the titans two dimensional at best, when what New Teen Titans was KNOWN for was breaking the Superfriends style stigma of cookie cutter DC characters).

That said, I'm upset we'll never get a Godiva episode, because that would have been perfect for the medium/feel. They were able to salvage Mad Mod after all into an incrediblely well used villain.

I'm really curious if they get second thoughts when they realize just how well the first season set of DVDs sell. I know it's all about making it to syndication for cartoons, but I think how well season sets of DVDs sell could change the entire mindset of the industry.

Though I didn't like the Teen Titans cartoon (I can't stand the anime style silly face junk) but I will agree that it was popular with the kids and it may have exposed a few to comics.

I do agree with Cartoon Network going down hill. Aside from a few adult swim shows and the very rare occasion I catch an episode of JLU they play nothing but junk. What happend to all the classics like Tom & Jerry, Looney Toons, Scooby Doo and others. They just aren't playing good cartoons.

Did you miss the part you quoted?

"Opinions are fine, but let's aim a little higher than "good" or "it suxored."

In other words, shoot for an informed opinion - "I didn't like it because of ___, ____ and ____ (not swears, btw) which I thought ended up hurting the show..."

Rather than...

"Gud. I'm glad it'z gon. I hated it and never watched it. It sucked. I hate anime, and that'z all this stopid show wuz - anime."

One adds to discussion, one doesn't.

I've loved TT since the first episode, but this current season is the worst by far, IMO.

All these extra lame TT additions to the team are diluting the dynamic fun of the core group, IMO.

Kinda the opposite effect of JLA/JLU, which IMO greatly improved when they added more JSA/JLA guys to the roster...
