HECTOR PLASM: DE MORTUIS

Image Comics has provided Newsarama with a full five-page story from March’s Hector Plasm: De Mortuis one shot coming in March. Written by Benito (Tales from the Bully Pulpit) Cereno and illustrated by Nate Bellegarde, the 48-page one shot collects and adds to the stories of Hector Plasm.

“The book itself is a collection of short stories that take our hero Hector from a tiny European village through the British Isles and Japan on to India and Canada and all through the American West and South as he battles ghosts, spectral hounds, demons, witches, animated statues, and one mummy,” Cereno told Newsarama. “Learn the true origins of the man who's here to save your afterlife as the chance circumstances of his birth lead him into a world of gypsies, magicians, undead rock 'n' rollers, and sorority girls.

“And here's the solicitation text:”

Even ghosts tell stories...and the name whispered in hushed tones over the dying embers of campfires past is that of the drifter, the conman, the shaman, the witch doctor, the exorcist...HECTOR PLASM.

HECTOR PLASM: DE MORTUIS chronicles the adventures of Hector Plasm, a modern-day member of an ancient cult whose duties dictate that he roam the earth to protect the living from the dead...and occasionally to protect the dead from the living. DE MORTUIS collects Hector's previous appearances from INVINCIBLE and WESTERN TALES OF TERROR as well as over 30 pages of all-new chilling adventures.

Written by Tales from the Bully Pulpit author Benito Cereno
Drawn by Nate Bellegarde and colored by Jacob Baake and Randall Whiteis
Cover by Cory Walker and Alex Stodolnik

I don't mean to brag but I've had the opportunity to read a good portion of this book already... including the 20 page origin of Hector Plasm that is contained within.

It's a DAMN fine read folks. I highly, HIGHLY recommend picking this up. You won't be disappointed.

I must also comment on this. I haven't read as much as Kirkman has, but I've read a chunk, and it's thoroughly engrossing. Benito's chops have never been juicier and Nate's mohawk has never treated him so well. Also, the color work from Baake and Whiteis looks super duper spectacular in these preview pages!@!@!

I am so getting this preordered as soon I step into the shop next week. I have nothing but praise for Nate's art and Benito ain't too shabby either.

One question remains, will we see monkeys?

I actually had to go and check to find the answer for this, which is that while there are horses, scarabs, ravens, a sheep, several dogs, and lots and lots of locusts, there is, sad to say, not a single monkey in this book.

I'll settle for the locusts then. I'm all about the swarms of volant cicadas.

I can't wait for this. Benito & Nate are awesome, and more Hector Plasm is always welcome as well.

The Benito & Nate strip in the Image Holiday Special is hilarious and made me miss their back ups in Invincible even more.

Penciljackers make good!

I've been waiting for more from these two since their disappearance from the back-up pages in Invincible.

Even this early in his career Nate is an art with talent to spare and unbelievable potential.

I hope this is the first of MANY Hectors to come.

k.

And hey Nate, I think you got a pretty good hold on drawing a little Black girl.

I'm not familiar with these creators, but I'll definitely be picking up this book.

Hell, I'd sell my Spider-Man jammies to buy it.

I'm really looking forward to this. I love their stuff in the back of Invincible.

One question. Is Benito Cereno the dude's real name? I only ask 'cause that's the name of a book by Melville.
