ALIAS & HURRICANE COLLECT SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES

Reviving a series that last saw life in 2003 Alias Comics has confirmed for Newsarama that it has teamed with Hurricane Entertainment to bring back John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles, stories based on the character from the John Carpenter films, Escape from New York and Escape from LA. The return will be the first of several projects coming from the two companies.

Snake Plissken Chronicles will see life first in November as a collection of the original four-issue miniseries which was originally published by CrossGen and Hurricane – with a cover by legendry film poster painter Drew Struzan. Alias Executive Director Mike Miller: “The sales on the title were strong from start to finish. It was a no-brainer to agree to publishing the trade. Then when I saw that one of my favorite artists of all time was doing the cover, I just about fell out of my chair. Drew Struzan is a modern day master of the craft!"

Originally, the series was one of the licensed feathers in the cap of CrossGen’s CGE imprint. Two issues were published under CGE, while the remaining two were published by Hurricane.

"The cover alone is worth the price of the trade, but luckily, people will get a killer story with some fantastic artwork by fan favorite penciler Tone Rodriguez to boot!" Miller said. "We're getting a LOT of really great properties coming through our doors lately, but I have to admit that this is a big one for me, personally."

John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles will be available for to order in the September issue of Previews for November release from Alias Comics.

Yay! It's about time!

I bought the first 3 issues of this and absolutely loved the series to death .... literally, it seemed. I never knew there was a 4th issue published, but never mind - I'll just buy the trade now ....

Hopefully that means there will be more new issues to come once the trade is released!

If this guy is anything like Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid(and I hear he IS the inspiration), I'M IN! Can't wait, I think Alias are really producing the goods.

If you mean "Snake Plisskin was the inspiration for Solid Snake" then ok.

IF you meant it the other way around....

And DREW STRUZAN rules like no other artist.

He da man!

Actually, it's the right Snake. The game guy is inspired by the movie, so much so that in MGS:Solid 2 Snake gives his name to Riaden as Plissken .

Meh.

The art was nice. Very good actually, but the story was boring. Definitely not worthy of Snake Plissken.

Maybe if the trade sells well they'll release a new, more deserving, Snake story. I would love a great Snake Plissken comic book.

I wondered what happened to this series. Gonna have to snag that TPB.

And what ever happened to that Snake Pliskin anime John Carpenter and Kurt Russel were supposedly doing?

From a passing moment when I went by the Hurricane booth at SDCC, I got the impression that they put a lot of plans on hold when Debra Hill passed away because she was the one who was really working with Hurriciane at the time.

My guess is they've been able to take the time to get the house in order and are ready to go again.

Look forward to more stuff and no doubt a nice rememberance for Mrs. Hill.

Hmm....MGS3? Nah, I've no idea. TELL US!

And any idea how much this will cost? Is it worth buying it from Amazon, or is it cheap enough to get from my retailer? Or was the price written and I missed it...er, whoops.

Anyway, can't wait!

Glad to see so many people as excited about this as I am!

The trade with publish for a measily $11.99, and be a whopping 108 pages! Make sure you ask your retailer to order you a copy or two!

Can I type any more exclamation points?!!!

Metal Gear Soild: Snake Eater...

I have seen Escape from LA once a long time ago, except for that I have very little familiarity with the character. But I'm a fan of MGS so I'll definitely check this one out.

Cheers for posting, Mr Miller! Following this news, I ordered both the "Escape" films. I'm getting this regardless, but hell...they might even be amazing.

Do yourself a favor, and go watch the 1981 (way before any Metal Gear) movie "Escape from New York" for Snake Plissken´s first appearence.

Escape From New York was cool but Escape From L.A. was a little lame,IMO.

At least this series is being made available a little more widespread now. I'm glad that they're giving the attention to it that they need to. Drew was a great move.

Anybody read that one shot "Snake Plissken" comic that Marvel put out before these? That was absolutely horrible. Bubble-gummy and weak. Snake taking on a robot for crimeny-sake...

I hope, with all this new attention, that someone will be able to do a Snake comic right. Some new gritty stories please. I'll buy this just to support a decent Snake comic for sure.

This wasn't the Snake Pliskin I remember

I love Escape from NY, peeps, but I bought the first ish of this at Comic Con and really disliked it. Do you remember how much Snake spoke in the movie? Hardly at all, yet in this comic he was a complete jabberjaw, not to mention a wimp who just got beat down a couple of guys face to face (no ambush, no attack from behind, nothing).

I thought the writer missed Snake by a mile, although the art sure was purdy.
