PEEK: RED SONJA/CLAW #1
Dynamite Entertainment and DC Comics have provided Newsarama with a look at Alex Ross’ cover to the first issue of Red Sonja/Claw #1, the first of a four issue miniseries which will be published under the Wildstorm imprint next year.
As announced in Chicago this summer, the miniseries will launch Wildstorm’s “Storm & Sorcery” line of titles, aimed at revitalizing/revamping genre characters from DC’s library, including Claw, which will be launched into a new series after the miniseries.
The cover shown is the Alex Ross alternate cover for issue #1. The regular cover artist for the miniseries will be Jim Lee.

Nice cover.
But I would have preferred if it was more "Frazetta" and less "Vallejo".

I can't wait to see what other titles are in the line.
I'd love to see Arak and Kamandi return.

Nice cover. But could we maybe have issue #3 before we have all these one-shots and whatnot?

Why are they saying "first time in decades" about Claw? He was in Primal Force right after Zero Hour.

a nice test ...
I'd like to see how much this would sell if Red Sonja wore full body armor : )
It's good to see that everyone clamoring for the return of Claw all these years will finally be satisfied.

And I'm really looking forward to all the Wildstorm stuff coming up in this regard.

Are you kidding with this? I thought this story was a joke! Isn't Claw a Conan-lite escapee from the 70's? If I recall right, he came out during DC's fantasy boom with Stalker and, good grief, Beowulf. The painting is nice but it's already been done for Conan the Barbarian movie.
Or..uh...is it supposed to be a deliberate homage? I get so confused.

Awesome Cover, Awesome News
The more sword and sorcery comics the better IMHO. I'm not a big DC fan but I dug their 70's short-lived sword and sorcery titles so I think this is great news.
This is taking advantage of Conan's renewed popularity of course but what's wrong with that? Nothing in my opinion.

Is it wrong that the first thing to pop into my head was "By The Power Of Greyskull..."?
Cool image, nice to see some forgotten DC concepts coming back. Anyone for Hercules Unbound?

I knew about Claw making a comeback, but not an entire line of S&S ...
I would love to see Chaykin take on Leiber's Fafred and the Grey Mouser ONE more time...LOVED that series.
From what I remember, Claw was a "tortured" soul barbarian whose hand-the Claw-was exchanged for a demons' that now fights to gain control (yes, this has been used countless times in many different genres). The series was ok...it's how you use the character.
So....trying to remember some of the other series...
Claw
Fafred & the Grey Mouser
Beowulf
Nightmaster (although now with Shadowpact...)
Ironwolf (another Chaykin)
well, add on those that can...braindead me

This could be cool, but....
I recently acquired a pile of mid-70's DC S&S stuff that I had never seen before and was more impressed than I thought I would be. Sure, they were Conan knockoffs, but when has anything in comics not been essentially a knockoff of something else? I thougth Claw was actually pretty good stuff...though as Conan knockoffs go, I prefer Atlas/Seaboard's IronJaw.
I have not, however, been especially impressed with the new Red Sonja, as it does not seem to have an identity apart from the new Conan series in terms of visuals or story -- it reads like a ripoff (not knockoff, theres a diff in my mind) of the new Conan, only with a girl instead of a boy. And yes, it seems like way too many one-shots from a series that has trouble comign out on a regular basis....

Thinking about this they should also bring back Kubert's Tar. And while we're at it, I would love to see Goldkey's Dagar the invincible return......too bad that never happened at Valiant.
Now I'm wondering if I'm mixing two characters up, the Dagar I'm talking about was kind of a Conan-like setting, a barbarian and his girlfriend on the run from wizards and monsters.

Amazing - I wish they could publish it like that with maybe a black varnish logo and price so that I could enjoy just the beauty of the image.
The only thing I think is strange is that because Conan and Sonja are selling well that Wildstorm thinks its time to get into it? I think its those characters not the genre...

That's probably true - not many of them lasted long first time round.
