ULTIMATES VOL 2 #1 DELAYED

During a signing facilitated by Dynamic Forces held at the Forbidden Planet location in London on Saturday, writer Mark Millar confirmed that Ultimates Volume 2 #1 would be at least a month late, and would not ship in April as originally solicited. A May or even June start is now a possibility.

During the signing, Millar quite candidly told fans that Marvel was very supportive of the move, and that the publisher would rather have several issues by artist Bryan Hitch in the can in order to build in a buffer of completed work, allowing the book to start, remain on, and finish on a monthly schedule.

Millar was also showing pages of The Ultimates #13 at the signing, which many fans described as being worth the wait, incredibly detailed, and as good as the first twelve issues – combined – in terms of quality.

Gee, well no shit, Sherlock.

This come as a surprise to anyone, considering #13 is running ridiculously behind?

Actually, I almost missed this on the first read through.

This is a joke, right? Ultimates on a monthly schedule? Doesn't Millar realise he's a month early with the April's Fool thing?

Hilarious...

Well, I'm surprised they're trying to say it's only going to be a month late.

So long as they continue publishing it, I couldn't care less about lateness--and I only read TPBs, anyway, so I'm used to being patient.

Here's a thought? why don't they get 5-6 issues done then solicit the title? Why not go into it with a nice buffer zone?

Maybe they need to call Jim Lee and have him show them how this is done.

Or July or August, or September or October.....

And then we'll aim for X-Mas....and then we're going to Washington DC to take back the White House! Sorry, got on a rant.

Here's a thought: Why doesn't Bryan Hitch do his FRICKIN JOB!

Which is exactly what he says they're doing in the second paragraph.
They do learn - eventually.

They never should have anounced when this book would relaunch so that way Bryan could finish a bunch of issues first.

So, 13 issues in 27 months, eh? This is what the industry needs! Yes! One of the most-hyped books on the market that exists on a bi-monthly or more schedule, despite the fact it tries to bill itself as being monthly!

This book is a dead horse beaten as many times as Jesus in the Passion of Christ

Someone needs to go take Hitch's Playstation and tell him he can have it back once he's finished a few issues. God help the man if he had to keep a work schedule like the rest of us do.

how did Hitch's schedule fall apart like that? He knocked out the first 12 issues of the Authority without a fill in (and I think it came out monthly!) now he's creeping around Frank Quitely territory. I say let a different team do 4-6 issues so Hitch can catch up and we don't have to wait 4 months between 12 minute doses of Ultimates. Monthly starting in May or June? I'll believe it when I see it. (I'll still buy it whenever it comes out though dammit, I'm a sucker for this title.)

Well, I am not surprised at this since we are still waiting for the last issue of Volume 1 he must still not have done much work on the volume 2 stuff yet.

But whatever. I'll be here when it come out. It's good stuff.

Seriously, when Marvel considers putting an artist on a title, it shouldn't just be on his artistic merit, they should look at whether or not this guy can handle a monthly sked. If he can't, he shouldn't be working in comics. Go pencil original trades or annuals if you can't handle a monthly schedule.

If you were working at McDonalds and took 40 minutes to put together a Big Mac, but told everyone it was okay because it's a REALLY GOOD Big Mac, how long would you have your job? I only use this analogy because I think that's where Madureria and J. Scott Campbell are working now.

Bryan Hitch can get away with it, because Marvel enables him. Marvel can get away with it, because the fans enable them.

every issue of Ultimates is bittersweet to me, I'm loving it while I'm reading but as I turn every page I realize how long it's going to be beforeI get my hands on my next issue.

SPOILER!!! for those waiting for the trade

I remember while reading the last page of issue #12 I was thinking: 'Wow, Banner sure was thrown out of that chopper from high up because it's going to take him about 4 months to hit the ground.'

Of course, the definition of monthly will likely be a case where one issue comes out June 2 and the next one comes out July 28 ... eight weeks later.

In Campbell's defense at least he knows he sucks at keeping a monthly schedule for a whole book and just does cover as of now

That's because DC actually DOES get an artist to finish multiple issues before soliciting the first one. Marvel likes to say they're going to do that, but DC actually DOES it.

BTW, if issue #13 is already so late then how does Millar figure that Hitch will get a "buffer of completed work" in an extra month or two? If they honestly want to get it out monthly they would out and out cancel the first issue and wait to launch the book in the fall.
