MICHAEL CHABON PRESENTS...THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF THE ESCAPIST #1

While production on the issue was delayed a week due to early January winter storms in Portland, Dark Horse has provided Newsarama with six pages of Michael Chabon Presents…The Amazing Adventures of the Escapist #1. Currently, the issue is slated to hit stores on February 25th.

Editor Diana Schutz told Newsarama that she is optimistic that the second issue will ship a month later, near the end of March, while the trade collection of the first two issues should be in stores by the end of April.

Issue #3 is slated to follow in July, with issue #4 in October.

Dark Horse’s solicitation for the first issue reads:

Leaping onto center stage from the wings of comics history comes that dazzling Master of Elusion, foe of tyranny, and champion of liberation--the Escapist. Operating from a secret headquarters under the boards of the Empire Theater, the Escapist and his crack team of associates roam the globe performing amazing feats of magic and coming to the aid of all those who languish in the chains of oppression. The history of the Escapist's creators, Joe Kavalier and Sam Clay was recently chronicled in Michael Chabon's Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. Now the best of the Escapist's adventures are collected into a giant 80-page anthology for all to enjoy.

Don't miss out on this thrilling first issue of the quarterly anthology Michael Chabon Presents...The Amazing Adventures of The Escapist, featuring an original story penned by Michael Chabon as well as the first new story in seven years written and drawn by comics creator Howard Chaykin

Ditto. And why the different artists? The pages by Wright & Chaykin look good but I'm not a big fan of Kyle Baker.

The different artists drew different stories.

If this comic is as good as the book its based on (and with the talent it has it should be) this should be an amazing read.

Not true. The recent All-Star miniseries had an Hourman short written & drawn by Howie.

It could be that Chaykin drew this before the Hourman short, but that was published first.

"We present you with six microscopic pages gauranteed to reveal none of the writing even though we're using award winning writer Michael Chabon's name to sell this project."

Art looks solid all 'round though.

Why exactly don't you like Baker? He has a great sense of humor and his cartooning is terrific. What's not to love? I'm looking forward to this collaboration but will probably borrow it from a friend rather than shelling out the $9
