SENTINEL ENDS WITH ISSUE #12
In his e-mail newsletter, Sentinel writer Sean McKeever has announced that the Tsunami series about a young boy and his Sentinel will end in February. McKeever wrote:
I'm sorry to say that Sentinel has been cancelled, effective with February's issue 12. If you've been following the sales charts, it should come as no surprise.
I hope those of you who are reading the series stick with it to the end. There are a couple developments I'm pretty sure people haven't seen coming, and the ending--which would have remained the same had there been an issue 13--will be sure to move you.
Despite the sad news, I feel I'm lucky. Writing Sentinel has been a wonderful experience that I will never forget, and it has allowed me to achieve my dream of never having to use an alarm clock again-- er, I mean, becoming a full-time freelance fiction writer.
My thanks goes out to the readers. You've made Sentinel all that much more fun to write. Thanks to the talented folks at Udon for their magical artwork. Thanks to Joe Quesada for telling anyone who'd listen to give Sentinel a try. And a special thank-you to editor Marc Sumerak, who has been an amazing colleague and, most importantly, a good friend.

Well, this is certainly a shame .... I've enjoyed Sentinel immensely (it's always the very first book I read when I pick it up), but I understand that the team has done its best and it simply couldn't go on ....
My thanks and congratulations go out to Sean McKeever, UDON Studios, and the rest of the crew on the book for the sensational run they've given us on the book so far! I'm sure they'll give us a beautiful and satisying conclusion as well (they've said they will), so at least I can look back in fondness on a wonderful 12 issue run.
I might put the money I save towards getting The Inhumans instead (if that series is continuing). I have enjoyed Sean's work and would like to support his continued endeavours on other titles ....
- Chris

Although I personally haven't read Sentinel in full I know alot of blood sweat and tears went into the production of this book. It's just heartbreaking to see something like this end when there's so many books out there still around that maybe should have ended a long time ago (for various reasons).
As far as I know this book was at least produced on time with alot of work going into it. Alot of work. Yet we have others that come out once a year but because they hit those high numbers stay around. I guess it's just the nature of the business, any business in general, but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

This is sad news. The issues of SENTINEL that I'd read were quite good. I think it'll go down as one of those underappreciated gems that years later, more and more people will discover, like AZTEK, CHASE, etc..
I'd also like to mention fellow Newsarama poster Christian Otte, who was the biggest supporter of this series outside of anyone actually working on SENTINEL. You did the best you could, my friend

Though this was to do only with sales, I must say that I didn't find Sentinel to be on the level of either Chase or Aztek. I hope Runaways isn't next on the block, but definitely you can all look forward to Thanos, Human Torch, Inhumans, New Mutants, Emma Frost, Hawkeye, and Deadpool & Cable being cancelled within the next 8 months.

This is really disappointing news. I, too, usually read SENTINEL first each time I got it. And it was a great book to get younger readers (and fans of WB-type shows) interested in comics.

I never thought I'd say this, but bring back Jemas. This new Fuckley, I mean Buckley, regime just stinks on ice if you ask me. All the shit the New NuMarvel has done since he's taken over have not been the right moves if you ask me. You cancel the Tsunami trades (yet to be rescheduled in one form or another), put Epic on "hiatus" (re: cancel it), wrap all those stories approved for Epic into an anthology that won't sell enough to cover the costs of paying the creators on it, and now you go and cancel one of your most critically lauded series (and a title certain to be mentioned once award time comes around). Man, it's shit like this that just makes me wonder where people learn to run a business.
At least Jemas tried something new every once in a while. Yeah, he couldn't write his way out of a paper bag, and he was obnoxious more often then not, but at least he threw these books out there to be discovered, and gave creators, known and unknown, a chance to play in the Marvel sandbox.
Best of luck to McKeever and the guys at UDON who did the coolest looking giant robot this side of the original Voltron. They're all talented enough to land on their feet... let's just hope Marvel doesn't pull the rug out from under them when they do.

I'm not saying I personally felt it was on the level of AZTEK or CHASE, creatively. I just mean that I think more and more people with discover it after the fact, and it'll become a bit of a cult favorite.
And gee, cynical much? LOL Sure, there's a hell of a chance those books will get canned, but maybe they won't. I don't read it, but I know New Mutants has quite a following, and I think with enough word of mouth Hawkeye could stick around. Hawkeye has been quite good, thus far.

I have already started! Please, I beg everyone who've enjoyed this series, and even those who haven't - take five minutes out of your schedule and write a letter to Marvel and tell them they've made a mistake. It saved Spider-Girl, and it can also save Sentinel!

He's definitely worse than Jemas ever was. I wouldn't wish bodily harm on him....well not here....Matt will just delete my post again...but I don't like him one bit.
Never been a Marvel basher, but it's hard to deny they're fucking with an unprecedented regularity lately.

Christian Otte - - you should encourage people to mention that they were waiting for the trade paperback, since that was the supposed GOAL of the entire Tsunami line....to get trade paperbacks of these series in stores ASAP.
Cancelling a series before the first trade is even solicited is an asshole move. Especially when you market a line of titles for the TRADE PAPERBACK market.
Dan Buckley = ASSHOLE, but I'd never wish him harm.

Hmmm, But Spider-Girl's numbers are also higher than Sentinel's, I would think it would be hard for this campaign to work.
But then again, I think that anybody who wants more McKeever should check out The Waiting Place. And support his next creator-owned endeavor.

Yeah, 'cause you'd have to be a moron to cancel projects that either weren't generating enough money or (in the case of Epic) weren't going to.

Now you know what all us Sigil-verse CrossGen fans feel like.
It's not about great writing and great art, it's about what's profitable.
And that bottom line really is hard to argue with, regardless of how passionate we all are about a particular title.
Great job to the Sentinel for making a highly memorable series!!
