PEGGY BURNS JOINS DRAWN & QUARTERLY

Effective immediately, Drawn & Quarterly has hired Peggy Burns to direct the companyıs publicity and marketing, it was announced today by Chris Oliveros, Publisher of Drawn & Quarterly. Burns will work with Oliveros, distributors Chronicle Books (USA) and Raincoast Books (Canada) to promote D+Qıs gifted stable of world renowned cartoonists including Chester Brown, Julie Doucet, Joe Matt, Seth, and Adrian Tomine to the public-at-large.
"Peggy has a great combination of solid publicity experience, both in and out of the comics medium, that makes her the perfect choice to publicize Drawn & Quarterly to the world," said Oliveros. "She also possesses a genuine admiration for D+Qıs cartoonists and an innate understanding of our publishing program."
"Every Drawn & Quarterly graphic novel is published with the utmost quality, care and intelligence; each book becomes an instant classic," stated Burns. "It is a publicistıs dream come true to promote the extraordinary D+Q cartoonists and Chrisı unparalleled vision."
Most recently, Burns served as Publicity Manager at DC Comics and MAD Magazine where she directed all mainstream publicity efforts for the two companies and the imprints Vertigo and Wild Storm. Over the past three years, Burns has been a vital force in exposing graphic novels to audiences outside of the comic book market. During her tenure at DC, she garnered unprecedented regular media attention in both publishing trades and consumer outlets including The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, SPIN, Rolling Stone, Publishers Weekly and NPR. Burns oversaw the mainstream publicity campaigns for all DC Comics writers and artists including Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, Peter Bagge, Gilbert Hernandez, Kevin Smith, Brian Azzarello, Paul Pope and others.
Prior to her career in comics, Burns was as Account Director at the NYC fashion and lifestyle public relations firm KRT. At KRT, she directed the publicity efforts for Sir Terence Conranıs Manhattan openings of the restaurant Guastavinoıs and the lifestyle store The Terence Conran Shop. Burns also managed special events for clients Daryl K, Levi Strauss and WINK. Previously, Burns worked at PolyGram Video where she coordinated publicity efforts for home entertainment releases.

D&Q puts out some great books. More exposure for Berlin and Optice Nerve can only be a good thing.

Peggy Burns is, indeed, a wonderful publicist & person, and D&Q is certainly an important publisher.
