PETE WOODS SIGNS A 3-YEAR DC EXCLUSIVE
Press Release
Pete Woods, artist on CATWOMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS, has signed a 3-year exclusive agreement with DC Comics.
"I couldn't be happier," says Woods. "DC has been a great company to work for, and these are really exciting times. The past year on CATWOMAN has been a fantastic experience for me, and the fan response has been phenomenal. Both (Senior Editor) Matt Idelson and (VP - Executive Editor) Dan DiDio gave me the space I needed to come up with something just a little bit different. The next year holds a lot of surprises and I'm eager to get started!"
Idelson says, "Pete's work has grown by ridiculous leaps and bounds since we first started working together eons ago, and to see the heights he's reaching on CATWOMAN... well, it's a joy being his editor and telling him what to do!"
Upcoming issues of CATWOMAN are available as follows:
CATWOMAN #47 (JUL050195) is available for advance reorder and is scheduled to arrive in stores on September 28.
CATWOMAN #48 (AUG050191) is available for advance reorder and is scheduled to arrive in stores on October 26.
CATWOMAN #49 (SEP050214) is solicited in the September Previews (Volume XV #9) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on November 23.

Pete Woods is a truly underrated artist, and I would love to see DC put him on some high profile projects. I think he would be great on JLA.

Congrats. But I've always wondered, does anyone think that these exclusive contracts help contribute to comics rising prices? Everytime a company raises prices they contribute it to things "Cost of Living" or "Inflation" or somesuch without really improving the comics themselves. Does anyone feel like I do?

Why were you worried he would go to Marvel? You would rather he does Uncle Sam than Hulk? lol

IIRC, Pete's name was in the most recent solicits doing a backup story in.........some big comic.
Seemed kinda odd - perhaps ominous - since he's been with DC for the last several years.

Damn this sort of sucks. Good for Wood, but I'm really looking forward to his and Dan Slott's Blackjack stories in Nov. Amazing Fantasy. And I was hoping that that would lead to a mini-series for the two of of them. Oh well good luck anyways.

I didn't know anything about Pete Woods until I saw a preview of his first Catwoman issue. A couple of months later, I bought that issue and each subsequent issue that he has drawn. I don't know who he is or where he came from, but he is a fantastic artist. I don't even like Catwoman, but I enjoy what the artistic talent brings to the book. He is an obvious hit because my comic shop has been selling out of the issues of Catwoman that he has drawn. They (the store employess) were wondering why, and I told them, "Catwoman has a new artist, and he's really good."
I hope he continues to be good...

This guy's art has drastically improved bit by bit over the years. Heck, I remember hating his art back on Deadpool #10 or so, and then liking it a little better on #30 or so, and then I liked what I saw in the Batbooks recently. Take this guy off Catwoman and give him something that will draw in a bigger crowd. I want to see what he's capable of now.

Nice enough article but I hate the Headline! You see there are vast legions of unsigned great pepole ! By god sir I am one! Yet Marvel and DC does even bother to reject me. That is not right. I have never minded rejection but with super-hot creators being hunted for and signed it only fair that a non-hot creator like myself be given at least a form letter.

No. You see, "cost of living" and "inflation" are real. The cost of movie tickets go up, but do movies necessarily exponentially get better? No.
Increase in the price of books has nothing to do with exclusive contracts.

In the business of comics, like all business, it IS "about sells".
May not be right, but it is the way it is.
