How does Mark Waid know what we're sick of?

Quote:
"The good news is, and I guarantee you this, when we're on the other side of the CRISIS, those days are GONE. Just gone. We're sick to death of heroes who are not heroes, we're sick to death of darkness. Not that there's no room, not that Batman should act like Adam West, but that won't be the overall feeling. After all this stuff, after everything shakes down, we're done with heroes being dicks. No more we screwed each other and now we must pay the consequences. No, we're super-heroes and that's what we do. Batman's broken. Through no ONE person's fault, but he's a dick now. And we've been told we can fix that." - http://www.monitorduty.com/mdarchive...stlers_i.shtml

Now.. I'm sorry.. but what makes Waid think that he knows what we want? As far as I can tell, these gritty, dark stories have raised sales high above where they were before Identity Crisis..

Thanks but no thanks, Mark. I do just fine thinking for myself.

Ask not what Mark Waid can do for you but what you can do to help Mark Waid bring comics back to 1966

Well, no doubt there are people who are.. but the simple fact is that sales have skyrocketed from these darker-toned stories. I think thats evidence enough that the majority of people are not sick of them...

I don't want 1966. I want 1988 when the JLI were around!

I'm glad you're saying there are two camps. Now if only DC would cater to both.

way to go mark.......want to set DC back and have them be 5 miles back of marvel like the last 20 something years

I agree with him.

Current comics suck. ____ the sales, they're all based on hype, not actual stories.

How does "grim and gritty" = modern, or good? It's the early 90's all over again, but with more assrape.

I've been sick of it for a while. The most balanced and human I saw Batman recently was in JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice, where he actually eats some Thanksgiving diner given to him by Mr. Terriffic, and the follow-up joke the year later. The one with pizza. Yeah.

Batman sucks, Superman sucks, and a lot of heroes suck, because they are always brooding. They don't need to be doing the Adam West ("And how come Batman doesn't dance anymore?"-The Simpsons)

Actually I agree with you.

Almost any time your marketing becomes only hype you get in trouble.

Batman is the only one I want grim and gritty. But not being a jerkwad.

I agree with Waid completely. But for those who don't, LITG claims that DC is developing a darker superhero line as well...

I think what irks me most isn't that Waid wants a return to regular superhero stories.. but the wording he used.

"We're sick to death of heroes who are not heroes, we're sick to death of darkness."

We?
