STRANGE GIRL #1
Image Comics has provided Newsarama with an eight page preview of Rick Remender and Eric Ngyuen's Strange Girl #1, a new ongoing starting in July.
Of the series, Remender gave Newsarama an idea of what the series is about in a February interview, saying:
“ Strange Girl: The Rapture has occurred and God has collected all who worship him by any name, leaving a small population of the faithless behind. With the Earth now unprotected by God, the demonic citizens of Hell flood into our world and enslave the remaining human population. Seven years after the Rapture, a beautiful occultist and a runt demon embark on a road trip to the last open gateway to heaven, in hopes of befriending God and escaping hell on earth.
Basically after saving the life of a runt demon named Bloato, bar tender, occultist, and all around arse kicker, Bethany Black, unwittingly discovers that God means to soon return for the second Rapture when he will wipe the Earth clean of everything unholy. With the end of the world coming, Bethany and Bloato set out to find the last doorway left into heaven and plead for admission. Equal parts Tank Girl and Doctor Strange, Bethany Black is the unlikely last hope for a population of humans -- with no reason to hope.”

This looks fun. Love the art style too. But kinda wish they wouldnt have shown us how the issue ends, I will be picking this up but reading this issue will be kinda anticlimatic now. But still looks very interesting!

Interesting Concept
Not sure about the artwork, a little too busy. I'll give it a try based on the story.

Love the art too. Matter of taste, but my tastes run in this direction, cartoony just works better for me in terms of fantasy comics. Nice to see more in the vein of Hempel and Oeming.
I'm guessing that if they showed us how the issue ended, a lot of people wouldn't have picked it up. My interest is piqued, though I'm pretty exclusive to trades these days. I don't think the odds of a trade on this are really high, are they?

i think Eric is a total dreamboat. This art alone has me sold on the book, not to mention that i know Rick can write a helluva damn story.

Every single page I've seen from Strange Girl is a complete knockout. Remender and Ngyuen are definitely going to blow people's minds with this.

Not to be cocky but there is no chance of this book not being collected. If you want to wait for a TPB it's your call but prebuzz has been amazing and even with a big overship everyone anticipates a sell out on the singles.

Mr. Remender, while you are listening I have a question and a comment:
Question: Do you have an idea of how long the series is intended to last in order to reach completion? I notice that the series is listed as ongoing. Is Strange Girl intended to be ongoing in the same way Spider-man is (it could theoretically last indefinitely), or is it ongoing in the way most Vertigo series are (about 25-100 issues)?
Comment: Your new series looks fantastic. I absolutely love the concept and can't wait to read it. I hope this series does end up getting collected into TPBs. That way it can attract new readers through-out it's life time and not experience a steady decline in readership. I wish you and your team the best of luck and if the first 8-pages are any indication as to the quality of your book, I will be a reader until the last issue is published.
PS: I love the coloring. Talk about some eye candy!

Hey Solamon--
The series is without question a high priority for the new Image line up and I plan on keeping it going for as long as I have story. Right now I imagine that being fifty issues. Now to be honest getting a book to issue 50 is one hell of a task. But we have enough stream and buzz behind this book that I don't imagine we'll cancel it based on sales. Eric Nguyen and Joelle Comtois are in on the art for a good long haul and if they chose to leave I have a few other amazing artists eagerly in the waiting.
We have the trade planned for sure though we don't have a date for it. I'd imagine it would be after the 1st prints of 1-4 sell out. which they will.

Must say I am looking forward to it. And I was surprised to see the preview was from the end of the issue... Just glad it's not a one shot
I haven't been impressed with Image for years, but between this and a couple of other projects, they may be lifting their game! I will definately be grabbing this!

Sure I still love some of what the big two are doing, but Image just keeps pumpin' out some of the most original schiznit I've had the pleasure to read and see. Let's see, we've already got Rex Mundi, Invincible, Walking Dead, Common Grounds, Hawaiian Dick, Battle Hymn, Ultra. . . this past week we got Expatriot (read it and immediately added it to the pull list), next week we have Sea of Red, then this and probally more that I'm forgetting. Damn, Image is becoming the schiznit while the other "big 2" are still playing around with foil enhanced covers.

I've been watching for this since Sime pimped it a little while back, it looks and sounds amazing. I'll sign for it, and can't wait to get it!
Here's hoping a non-Kirkman Image title does find some gangbusters success (not that there's anything wrong with Kirkman, I dig me some Invincible).

looks pretty good. i've practically given up on image when wildstorm moved over to dc because back in the 90's, wildstorm's books were the only ones i actually folowed. but now that i'm back into comics, i think i'll give this and some other image titles a chance.
