ULTIMATE IRON MAN - NOW TWO FIVE ISSUE MINISERIES
In its most recent communication with retailers, Marvel has noted that writer Orson Scott Card has requested that Ultimate Iron Man be changed from one six-issue miniseries to two five issue miniseries, as his storyline has expanded during the writing process.
Marvel has agreed, and all future solicitation information will now note that the ongoing Ultimate Iron Man miniseries is now five issues. There was no word as to whether or not artist Andy Kubert will continue as the artist on the second miniseries.

First ultimate post ever!!
This is great news, after reading issue numero uno, I'm enjoying the ride so far! Might pick up the Ender's Game as well.
And Andy Kubert is delivering some of his better works here. Are we finally going to get a decent (ult) Iron Man story?
Thanks for the article, Matt.

Sounds nice. Card is a good writer. I wonder what story thematics made him consider a second series?

I just wonder if the guy will be able to deliver on time ... hasn't issues 2 + 3 already been delayed dramatically?

You are thinking of the regular Iron Man series by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov which has been delayed for quite some time.
Ultimate Iron Man #1 only came out last week. I have not heard of any delays.

Is this a case of Card trying to fit too much in 6 issues or did they really expand it?

Does it matter? Either way Card has come to the conslusion he has too much material to cram into 6 issues. This is his 1st comic so there is a learning curve. The fact he realized it this early speak volumes about his skill and professionalism.
Hey, where's alfonso?
I expected to see some brainless screed from him about how this is furthur proof of how much marvel sucks...
Gosh, I hope nothing happened to him....

Homophobia reminder
Just a reminder that the writer of this book is actively campaigning to make homosexual activity illegal in the US.
That means he wants to see your friends and family IN JAIL for consensual sexual activity.
Buying this comic supports him financially, which allows him to continue with this campaign.
Remember history's lessons:
"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me."

Although I find the above claim... interesting, and doubt it's veractity, this is the ONE POST we will take on this subject under this thread.
If anyone wants to follow this tangent, please go to Talk@, and post in one of the fifteen or so threads there about this.
Any more here will be deleted.

Yeah. God knows this isn't the 80s. Joey Q's gotta' squeeze as much money out of every project as he can:
"Wait, amigo, you've got more than two sentences of dialogue in this one panel. Well, here at Marvel, we've got a saying: Breathing room. Breathing room, my man. Stretch this sh*t out."
"But, uh, that means I'll need two miniseries instead o' one--"
"Even better. Breeeeeeathing room. Makes a better comic! More installments makes your fans happy and makes Marvel more money! Mainly, it makes Marvel more money! ...uh, which you'll see too, bud..."
"Well, wait a min--"
"Hey, trust me. It's all about the story. Have you ever worked on a comic before?"
"Um--"
"Exactly. Well, we have. And we've got your back. Now get out there and give me TWO 5-issue minis. All right? Yeah!"
* * *
Even so, I'm still looking forward to this book. I really dug Card's Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead.

You slam and then praise...neat. Just to clarify though - you're saying that the statement that it was Card who requested that the format change was a lie, right?

Both Iron Man books are having some problems.
Just before UIM #1 hit the stands, a 1-month delay on issue #2 was announced. Obviously, subsequent issues will be pushed back because of this.
Issue #3 of the mainstream Iron Man book is scheduled for the end of April, if I'm not mistaken.

There's no MIGHT involved son... get to the store NOW!
Seriously though, Ender's game is one of my all time favorite books, I've read all but the recently released addition to the Ender & Bean series.
If you are a fan of sci-fi or rather you are a fan of excellent writing I definetly suggest you pick up Ender's Game... afterwards I dare you to telll me you didn't like it... because everyone I know who's read it has loved it.
So put down the comic and buy the book, they even sell it in some comic stores...

Yeah, I dunno, issue 1 made me already afraid the series would suffer from decompression (since the main character didn't appear in the book and wasn't even born in issue #1), and now they're expanding it to two miniseries?
Worried.

The more the issues, the more justifiable it is to hire Card. I think it would be hard to get back sufficient returns from just 6 issues.

I took my wifes cousins to a comicstore...thinking that they need to learn a good habbit :-)
One of the books they walked out with was Ultimate Iron Man. I am not a big fan of most Ultimate books, but it looked interesting so I read it.
Very nice indeed!! Impressive writing. Now, if it did not say IRON MANon the cover I would have no idea that it was Iron man (ok the name Stark could have given it away)!!

That Tony Starks intelligence is the result of an arms-contractor experimente and his body IS is brain??
Ehe???
Buy judging from the first issue this should probably have worked better on it's own with no ties to Iron Man!!
