AMAZING FANTASY #7
Press Release
ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT SCORPION TO DEBUT IN AMAZING FANTASY #7
The fans spoke and Marvel listened.
In November 2004, Marvel.com conducted a poll to determine the character that fans wanted to see revamped in the pages of AMAZING FANTASY -- the revived title that introduced the red-hot ARAÑA to the world, before she spun off into her own series.
Fans elected The Scorpion for the revamp treatment, over the other three contenders of Kraven, The Cat, and Werewolf by Night.
Marvel Senior Editor Mark Paniccia, who oversees AMAZING FANTASY, was assigned the daunting task of revamping a classic character in limited time, “We ended up with an outstanding creative team and storyline. This character is everything we hoped for and more. We have a sexy character rich with mystery and a suspenseful storyline that will take readers on a wild, jet-setting ride across the globe!”
The all-new, all-different Scorpion is set to debut in AMAZING FANTASY #7, on sale April 4th, 2005. The six-issue arc written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Leonard Kirk introduces Carmilla Black, who -- after the vicious murder of her adoptive parents --discovers her biological mother is the top scientist of the worldwide terrorist network, A.I.M. Now, to unravel the secrets of her true identity and mysterious power, she’s hot on the heels of her enigmatic mother, with S.H.I.E.L.D. hot on her trail, hoping she’ll lead them right to the terrorists’ leadership! The stunning cover for the issue is provided by James Jean.

this really has nothing to do with this at all, but I can't help but wonder why marvel develops these books to fill a niche that could be better filled by already established books
Mary Jane, Amazing Fantasy?
Why not get mark brooks and james jean on Spider-girl.

Well maybe they wanna stay away from the MC2 . Spider-Girl survive mostly because of its powerful and smart fanbase .
As for the scorpion , well i liked her look ever since the few first covers/pics and still do .
Now i dunno if there was such a need to call her the scorpion , but oh well , why not ...

A skate board!!? What si this, the Dazzler for the 21st century.
The House of Idea is running on empty these days with all these different versions of the same character. Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Spider-Girl, Arana. Why not just bite the bullet/jump the shark and introduce the world to Spider-Tot!

Arana has anything to do with Spider-Man, except that they both premiered in Amazing Fantasy. And other companies do it as well(Superman, Superboy, Supergirl).
I enjoyed the Arana issues of Amazing Fantasy and plan on giving this a try as well. I'm hoping Marvel can really make something out of the Marvel Next concept.

Did anyone else actually read the preview? Or are you basing your opinions on the cover only? Give it a read.. go on. I was not expecting to like it, but that was some good writing and the story is moving at a decent pace. A two page origin? Fantastic!
If this was 2.25 I would probably pick it up. For 2.99, I just can't. I will look for it in that traveller tpb thingy?

I have unraveled the mystery, the scorpian is really:
"Carmilla Black, who -- after the vicious murder of her adoptive parents --discovers her biological mother is the top scientist of the worldwide terrorist network, A.I.M."
What a waste of paper.

A dickbag is someone who can't stomach an opinion
Gah, WHY?! Why make every revamp with a little teenage girl ?Just so that teenage girls by Marvel comics?-This smells of desperation. Why not just call her something besides Scorpion? I'm sorry but while Arana was okay, this is just.......sad. At least it has slick artwork and an awesome cover.

So she went from the Homecoming Queen to a green haird punk looking girl.
I guess we just don't have enough punk shit in comics already. The homecoming queen would have been a better angle. Because I really can't think of a super powered homecoming queen offhand.

i think the votes didn't even count.
yeah, that's right. they didn't even take votes, they just made it look like they did.
does anyone else see the conspiracy? gargan just became venom in spider-man! there's an opening as scorpion, so they decided to fill it with a girl!
i'm onto something. i know it.
that or it's because i'm really drunk, and i'll probably not remember this at all...

Well since this girl is nothing like Scorpion what I am thinking is that the votes just gave her a name and a color.

naw waitaminute wasn't there some controversy like the person who revamped the scorpion for amazing fantasy left with their ideas and then marvel had to rework the whole scorpion relaunch concept again? i thought i remember that from a LITG.
hey i think if this title hits the market its intended to, which i suppose is the manga market, thats straight. its obviously not targeting the cranky old fanboys / fangirls crowd anyway so i dont really think its worth complaining about it.

Wow, I never read the Arana issues for many various reasons, and I didn't have very high expectations for this story either, but I have to admit, I enjoyed those preview pages.
The art was pretty solid, and the story was enjoyable to read. I hate first issues that are so shrouded in mystery that they reveal absolutely nothing, but this book looks like its found the proper middle ground. A little mysterious, but we learn quite a bit about the character in the first 6 pages.
I liked this preview, so I'm going to buy this book. (In fact, I'm kind of anxious to read it after seeing that preview.)

Actually that's a common misconception... the true reason why Spider-Girl has lasted so long has roots going all the way back into the early 90s.
You see in 1992 when Tom Defalco was at the height of his power as Marvel's editor in chief, seven of Marvel's most popular artists and talents left to form their own comics group Image. Realizing that his days were numbered Defalco took to extreme measures to ensure his job security. Immediately following the leave of the Image Seven, Defalco summoned seven of Marvel's writers to his office and bloody sacrificed them in an occult ritual summoning fourth the arch-demon Neibezdul.
The exact nature of the negotiations between Defalco and the Lovecraftian horror are unknown, but the most commonly accepted theory is that DeFalco pledged the writers’ souls in exchange for a book that would never be canceled. Clever enough not to play his trump card until years later Tom D continued his run as editor in chief of Marvel comics, and the new found vacancies in Marvel's writing staff were filled by Howard Mackie.
There are in-fact no actual Spider-Girl readers... only Defalco's demonic zombie hordes, shells of human beings no longer able to recognize decent villain design and coherent dialog yet still capable of swarming on unsuspecting message boards and sending mass e-mails.
Ok... Ok... just kidding. Please don't lynch me.
Anyway anyone who read Bloodhound (all six of us) knows that Leonard Kirk is an awesome artist and story teller... although I can't say I know much about Fred Van Lent. So I'm looking forward too it. Arana's turning into a pretty decent title too even though it's taken a long time to take shape.
Oh and for everyone complaining about this being an unnecessary revamp, I am quick to point out that this is not a revamp, but an entirely new character with the same name.

What the hell does a skate board have to do with the Dazzler? There's absolutely no connection.
These boards are depressing.
Anyway, I think the stuff looks hot. Good job Marvel.
Funny how some people make the mistake of thinking it's the same character just 'cause they have a similar word in their name. Spider-Man is NOT the same character as Spider-Woman or Spider-Girl. Just ask the people who actually read and enjoy those books.
But what do you expect from someone who thinks a skateboarder is the same thing as a mutant singer who produces light flashes?

I think that you are missing the point that marvel is trying to be cool by having characters be total pop culture products. Skating was the cool thing in the 70s when Dazzler came about and skateboarding is the cool thing now.

As much as I like leonard kirk's art, I can't buy this. It just feels wrong, like all the other marvel next stuff I've looked at. Maybe I just don't understand it but this whole push seems very weak to me. Sorry Marvel but you lost me lately with all the stuff you put out that doesn't flow at all.

I ordered it, willing to give it a shot. I'll try it out just to see if it's worth anything. It's easy to bash it right away, I didn't want anything to do with Arana either, but ok, I will actually read this one to see what's going on. I'm not that happy happy joy joy about Marvel next too, let's see if this one can make me think a little better of it.

ehm, what happens is that Dazzler's original costume had rollerskates on them, and a mini disco ball as a necklace. very 70s.
check out the original Dark Phoenix Saga where Dazzler was introduced for a hearty laugh

The preview itself is very decent, 2 page origin (and one splash page too!) freakin rocks.
However, I think I speak for everyone when I say THE SKATEBOARD AS GOT TO GO!
