Sweet.
I really wish I could afford this series, I really do. Maybe I'll get the trade.
Speaking of wishes, I'd love an in-continuity Shanna story. Seems like untapped potential there.
Best of luck to Frank Cho with this series though, hope it does really well. If it does my wish might come true!

Pretty sure that, if it happens, it will be the whole series, especially since, according to Cho, most of the "covering up" had to be done in issue 2

Anyone else notice in the first issue how all the nipples and ass cracks had to be covered up, but it's okay to show a man's face gouged up and falling apart?

I will only get the directors cut. The only exception would be that when they release the edited version and my shop severly discounts it because they overordered it or didn't sell and he puts it in the bargain bin.

This series would have been better in black and white. The coloring doesn't look that great.

It is silly indeed, how VIOLENCE VIOLENCE VIOLENCE and a little bit of sex is the acceptable quotient.
As it's often argued, which does more harm to society? Then we get into the "but we live in a puritanical blah blah blah, red states blah blah, Janet Jackson etc etc..." Then we here, "but look at European comics, Manga etc etc, blah blah", and round and round we go.
The bottom line right now? NO NIPPLES! (and god forbid anything else).

Yes, the friggin eyeball flying out of the socket and half the cheek torn off with the jaw showing is clearly far less harmful to the kids than a nipple. Seriously, if Marvel was intent on making the book PG-13, they've failed; the only things that were covered up were the nudity - gratuitous violence is clearly okay.

Screw this whole flippin' thing.
Red Sonja is more deserving of the few bucks I got extra to spend. I'd rather support the return of a legitmate warrior swordswoman with some meaning in her respective created universe than something that amounts to little more than something that looks like a cheap video game pitch by hypocrits. Frank not included. Frank rules...

It boggles the mind. We can have comics where people are DISMEMBERED in graphic detail, but people only really get outraged and offended when they see big-breasted women--and they don't even have to be naked to get people up in an uproar.
I really do wish Marvel will release the "unsanitized for prudes" version in a trade...

*nods* Well, I'll be looking for the untouched version down the line, but for now I'm enjoying the toned down version. Edited is better than none at all for now. If they actually do the unedited version for the trade, Marvel will get major cool points and more of my money (Hear that Marvel? Approval & $$$!).
In Europe it's the opposite, I hear. That sexuality is accepted but graphic violence is edited and shunned. That'd be the better way to go, but after being an American for so long I don't know how I could take my fiction being ultra violent-less.

Marvel is hoping to sell more copies by targeting the Bible Belt states...that's basically the reasoning.
At the cover price, I'm holding out for an uncensored TPB.

Speaking as a fan in one of the bible belt states, I have no interest in an edited version.
I would have an interest in turning a few of those raptors loose on the bible thumpers ruining this part of the country.

To be quite honest, aside from the bubbles and glass shards and a guy holding a towel in the first issue that all seemed like an after-thought, I would much rather see this book as it is now, with the character in a tattered bikini rather than running around topless. At least the tattered bikini makes sense within the already ridiculous and warped comic book reality where women can wear thongs and battle demons. Something about the same story where the woman is bouncing around all over topless--it just stretches that thin veil of credibility past the breaking point. In her loincloth garb, she's no different (just much better rendered) than countless comic book cavewomen and vixens before her, but why on Earth, even comic book Earth, would she not want to keep her bits from slapping around all over the place?

I'll also be getting the directors cut as well as regular edition. Great comic, Frank Cho knows how to draw women.

Yeah. It's bizarre when you think about it. Not that I want the violence censored either, but it's stupid to think that nudity is worse than that.
but there's no point arguing with people who'd want to censor that stuff, the people who'd get upset at the nudity would probably as upset by the graphic violence & simply demand that it *all* be cut out

Yeah, because as everyone knows, non-religious minded types are just pleasant-filled and humbly modest folks.
I'm not defending bible-thumpers, mind you, as some of them do get pretty annoying at times, but all sides of things (that includes the non-bible thumpers and moderate-minder bible-thumpers) all have those within their own sect who are "kill joy know it alls." Or, to put in more in a way befitting the reference, "let he who is without ego, cast the first insult."

How about simply establishing this as her new 'untold' origin, while still hooking up with Ka-Zar later on? Shouldn't that work out quite well, with all the Ka-Zar stories still in continuity?
