Would you prefer they were never released at all?

Don't forget Chase and Monoloth. Although I thought Reign of the Zodiac was supposed to be a mini. Heh, live and learn.

This sucks! This is one of the few new books that I really look forward to regularly. It's so typical of DC (or Marvel for that matter) to cancel the good stuff because of low sales when it's their own fault for never promoting the book in any way. Bloodhound is so much better than at least half the dreck out there too! I think the only choice we have as fans is to not even bother to buy any of the big two's new idea books. It's just going to be cancelled anyway.
K!

If you really like and believe in a new book, buy it and enjoy it.
As hard as it is to see it go, I still believe that buying a book you love is money well spent, no matter what happens.

This really sucks. I just posted a review on the Reviews thread about the newest issue.
That really really stinks. I have so many of these freaking books in my collection. Short runned little books that I loved and no one else remembers...

Remember the firs release of "Birds of Prey"? A One-shot. Later other. Later a new one. I think a miniserie, too. Today is a very good selling monthly series with fans.
That`s the way DC, forget to launch new and untested characters to the wall.
that`s the way.
Minis. One-shots. Let the characters click with the fan.
My two cents.

Not a bad idea, IMO.
So many people won't start a new fringe book, because they 'know' it'll get cancelled in the near future.
Hmph... And I'd just started reading Bloodhound too

According to Marc-Oliver Frisch's report on comicon.com/pulse, sales on the book were really horrible:
(178) BLOODHOUND
07/ 2004: Bloodhound #1 -- 13,094
08/ 2004: Bloodhound #2 -- 10,113 (-22.8%)
09/ 2004: Bloodhound #3 -- 8,456 (-16.4%)
10/ 2004: Bloodhound #4 -- 7,309 (-13.6%)
11/ 2004: Bloodhound #5 -- 8,870 (+21.4%)
The last issue jumped because of the Firestorm crossover, but still didn't crack 10K. This was the 8th worst selling book for DC; only 4 Cartoon Network books, 2 DC Focus books, and Human Target sold worse than this. Marvel had no book sell this low, not even the Marvel Age books.
There's no way a company like DC or Marvel can be expected to publish a book with sales this low. That doesn't mean it wasn't a great book, as other posters have pointed out; it just means it didn't sell. All of the talent involved in this project have had other hits, and they'll have them again.

I agree that it stinks, but you could ask Peter David how difficult it is to launch a completely new title.
My boxes are full of short-lived DC series like Chase and Resurrection Man that I was bummed to see end. (I tried Fallen Angel and it didn't grab me. Sorry, PAD.) I don't sample new titles the way I used to, mostly because they end up getting the axe early. But then that attitude contributes to short-term lifespans for new titles... it's a conundrum.
In the past ten years, there have been very few titles from DC and Marvel featuring completely brand-new characters that last longer than 20 issues or so. This reminds me of Joe Q's comment a few years ago that Marvel would "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" or something like that. How many can you think of?

A 72 issue mini.
12x6 issue story arcs, one for each sign of the zodiac.
All tying together into one uber-arc, most likely.
Sadly though we'll never know now.
And, on topic the cancellation of "Bloodhound" was expected but sucks nonetheless.

I like that attitude. There are just so many great new titles these days that are falling by the wayside because of a lack of company support or not enough readers. Over at the Byrne board we are trying to address the second half of that problem.
A reader of Doom Patrol will promise to try an issue of any title you feel needs more attention. Any genre, any publisher. In return we would like you to try an issue of Doom Patrol. We then post reader reviews of your book that may encourage the many thousands of viewers on our forum to try it on their own. For details and to sign up, please go here:

*"Trying" means buying the comic from a retailer. No actual exchange of comics takes place between readers.

To quote one of the Heathers "Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw!" I'm not surprised by the cancellation since the sales sucked but I'm still greatly disappointed. This is a great book and issue #7 was one of the most powerful stories I've ever read.

Well, damn. That stinks.
I just added Bloodhound to my pull list. I was really enjoying this book. I hope DC finds another book for Leonard kirk to work on in a hurry. He's an extremely underrrated artist.
Damn.

Ditto.
Hopefully Clevenger will make another appearance, somewhere in the DCU after the books ends. He's to good a character to just let fade away IMO
Its almost a self-fulfilling prophecy these days, when it comes to new titles from the Big Two: People won't buy a title w/a brand-new character b/c they know it'll be cancelled quickly, but the Companies cancel the books b/c no one will buy them to try them out!!!
Damn shame...
I'll bet both MANHUNTER and FIRESTORM are next to get the ax...

AAAAAARGH!!!! I just got back from buying my comics for the week, Bloodhound included, to find this posting.
I just added Bloodhound to my pull list because I've purchased every issue, but wanted to support the sales and get my support behind it.
I agree that I'm hesitant to try new titles fearing their early cancelation. A similar thing happened regarding television shows. But the advice I was given by Matt Roush of TV Guide was if you don't support it from the beginning, who will? And to enjoy the series for whatever duration you have it.
