SHANNA: THE SHE-DEVIL #1
Together with Frank Cho, we’ve teased and teased, and now, Marvel has provided a ten page preview of the finished, lettered pages of Shanna the She-Devil #1 by Frank Cho.
As Cho described the series in a previous chat with Newsarama:
“I’ve always been a fan of jungle tales when man is pitted against nature. It’s my fondness for these types of stories that this Shanna adventure was born. That, and I get to draw dinosaurs tearing people up.
“[The mini-series is] part Jurassic Park and part Mysterious Island,” Cho continued. “A small American military squad crash lands on a mysterious island overrun with dinosaurs. They have no idea where they are and how to get off the island. Five years pass, the military unit has built a fort and has learned to survive by hunting and scavenging. During one of these hunting/scavenging trips, they discover a hidden and recently abandoned Nazi medical lab full of genetic experiments - Shanna. The [question] is: will Shanna help this military unit get off this island or will her genetic programming destroy them all?”
Marvel’s solicitation for the issue reads:
“Skin Deep"
She's bold, she's beautiful, and she's your best hope of escaping the raptors nipping at your heels. She's Shanna, the She Devil! That's right, fanboys - the wait is finally over: Award-winning creator Frank Cho brings you Marvel's bodacious jungle girl as you've never seen her before: Reborn from Nazi science gone mad to battle her genetic destiny on an island full of prehistoric horrors. Trust us, Shanna has never looked this goodŠor acted this bad. 32 PGS. / Marvel PSR+...$3.50
The first issue is due in stores on February 2nd.

There are nothing more ridiculous that bubbles which cover only the T&A parts, but well, Marvel wants to make movies, so....
Ok, i admit it, if i were a bubble, it's right there where i would go ^^
By the way, i buy anything done by Cho, so, bubble or not... I prefer without ^^

What, no nipples!?!?
Regardless of that omission, that Frank Cho can sure draw a purty picture!

Frank Cho rocks!
$3.50/issue does NOT.
I'm so torn. Buy now or hold out 'til the hardcover...

Although the art looks fantastic, not even Frank Cho is worth $3.50 an issue. Yet another Marvel title I will not buy because of the $3.50 price tag.

Once again Marvel produces six pages where three would have sufficed.

It does look nice, but I'm also not buying this or Earth's Mightiest Heroes because of the price tag.
I'll wait and get them off e-bay when people are getting rid of them to pick up the trade, or I may break down and get the trade.

Ditto.
Same goes for STRANGE and the never-to-be-finished DAREDEVIL: FATHER.

Frank Cho is indeed outstanding, and his humor shows through even in this preview (the "thumbs up" signal).
But can anyone tell me why this is priced at $3.50? Perhpas if this were a more "adult" title and Marvel wanted to price it out of a younger reader's range, then, sure. But this is just a regular comic (albeit one with Mr. Cho's considerable talents), so why so pricey?

This does look really good. I would have picked it up had it remained under the MAX imprint. Hopefully the trade will be published uncensored...

Nice art!
Too bad the copy editor was too busy looking at it....
On page 3:

During that time, we've encountered long extinct animals walk among us, heard inhuman sounds that no man should hear, ...

encountered... walk... ?

I asked Dan Buckley about the $3.50 price point at the Wizard World Texas Marvel forum - and got no answer. I don’t know if it was because he didn’t know or didn’t care, but I suspect it isn’t his decision either way. My best guess is that this is the new price for all Marvel limited series and premier issues written by Warren Ellis i.e. issue one of Iron Man volume three.

I think it's more likely that the price is for a cardstock cover, but I'd rather pay less.
Also, I think the Iron Man was priced higher because it had a higher page count (Not that Ellis couldn't have conveyed the same story with significantly less pages, but that's another story )

Hell, I was planning on buying it just for the Cho'work, rated or un, but these pages read really well, and I dig the new origin and set up. Now it sounds like as much fun as it looks!

Re: SHANNA: THE SHE-DEVIL #1
I'll admit it. I'm not buying this because Marvel made him cover up the nudity. I like his style; he's got a good crisp line and he knows anatomy. It's not that I care about seeing naked women drawn by Frank Cho. If I want nudity, I have the internet. It's the decision itself that I don't agree with.
