MOONSTONE ACQUIRES BUCKAROO BANZAI

Press Release

Yet another book has been added to Moonstone’s impressive line up of new and unique titles!

BUCKAROO BANZAI

Has been acquired by Moonstone!

Yes, that wacky 1984 movie starring (Oscar nominees & Emmy winners) Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Ellen Barkin, Christopher Lloyd, and Jeff Goldblum is back!

Buckaroo Banzai is a fiendishly clever action-packed adventure/comedy/drama in an outlandish world you’ll want to visit again and again!

Buckaroo is part neural surgeon, part rock star, and some “pulp hero” tossed in for good measure!

Moonstone’s new book will be a NEW TALE of Buckaroo written by the character’s very own creator (and the movie’s screenwriter) Earl Mac Rauch!

The interior art will be handled by (“Star Wars”) Stephen Thompson.

With the guidance of the film’s director, W.D. Richter, the Buckaroo Banzai color mini series will continue the bizarre trail blazed by the film.

BUCKAROO BANZAI: a bold, titillating mix of particle physics, rock and roll, super-sonic speed machines, handsome men, beautiful women, and villains beyond redemption.

BUCKAROO BANZAI: if he’s not one thing, he’s another.

Movie reviews:

“Hip! Imaginative! An offbeat sci-fi adventure with humor from every dimension!” –Hollywood Reporter

“Buckaroo doesn't just think he's a hero, he really is one, complete with tour bus, numerous sidekicks and his own comic book. He's a renaissance man for the 20th century, demonstrating supreme confidence in his chosen career—he's the sort of hero the world could use more of.” –SciFi.com

“…you'll find Buckaroo Banzai a delicious and funny piece of sci-fi with the same appeal that the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series has long held. From its goofy hero to crazy dialogue…” –FilmCritic.com

“This insanely great little film has carved out a nice little niche for itself due solely to word of mouth by the rabid fans who refuse to let a good movie die.”- DVDreview.com

Back to the 8th Dimension!!!

Buckaroo Banzai, born to an American mother and a
Japanese father, thus began life as he was destined
to live it... going in several directions at once. A
brilliant neurosurgeon, this restless young man grew
quickly dissatisfied with a life devoted solely to
medicine. He roamed the planet studying martial arts
and particle physics, collecting around him a most
eccentric group of friends, those hard-rocking
scientists, The Hong Kong Cavaliers.

And now, with his astounding jet car ready for a bold
assault on the dimensional barrier, Buckaroo Banzai
faces the greatest challenge of his turbulent life...

... while high above Earth, an alien spacecraft keeps
a nervous watch on Team Banzai's every move...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buckaroo Banzai in ANY form is cool. And comics are perfect anyway, given the Buckaroo Banzai comics in the movie.

I guess that Buckaroo Banzai TV series (Buckaroo Banzai: Ancient Secrets and New Mysteries) never really panned out.

This is great news though....

P.S. For any Buckaroo Banzai fans, I can't recommend the Buckaroo Banzai DVD enough if you haven't bought it yet. It was incredibly well done and has all sorts of cool extras.... the whole thing is basically done with the idea that it's all real, and they treat it like the movie was a documentary. It's really fun and really fits in well with everything.

Buckaroo Banzai: Let her out.
Perfect Tommy: Let her out?
Buckaroo Banzai: That's right, let her out. I'll be responsible.
Perfect Tommy: But she's a killer.
Buckaroo Banzai: No, she's not. Now, let her out and give her your coat.
Perfect Tommy: Why me?
Buckaroo Banzai: Because you're perfect.
Perfect Tommy: You have a point there.

At the Trek offices? Why? Just cause there seemed to be some Buckaroo Banzai fans there?

This is cool news. Buckaroo Banzai was years ahead of its time and was very much underappreciated. I'm not familiar with Stephen Thompson's artwork but I'll be checking out the book.

United Comics

Wow!

I am astounded!

The gods must be favorable toward Moonstone...I have been trying on and off for years to get the rights to that property for comics. The gentleman who held the rights was difficult to deal with, he wanted to make a TV series out of it and thought that a comic would scuttle his plans. I know he died a while back, but I hadn't gotten back to the pursuit...I've been busy with other projects.

If anyone other than United had to acquire the rights, I'm glad it was Moonstone, especially with Earl Mac Rauch and W.D. Richter involved.

Good work! I'll be buying it for sure!

Now if somebody could get a Big Trouble In Little China comic going...

PHENOMINAL!!!! 2005 will be a good year, at this on this front!!

Any hope we'll see Hanoi Xan? I hope its not a rehash with the Lectoids

Will we find out who Penny Priddy is...could she be Buckaroo's late wife's twin..or even his wife back from the dead?

Will New Jersey be in the HKC, or will it be set when or the late Rawhide...or will he be back to life?

But the biggest question is...when will it be out and how can I hang on til then!?!?

This is hands-down my favorite cult movie of all time. I'm glad to see it FINALLY continue.

I love this film. So does my wife. So do some friends.

But when we showed it to our freinds last year, half the people hated it or were bored. And while it seems everyone here is happy to see Buckatoo come back, with his creators in tow, the vast majority of peole will react with utter indifference. The question is whether the clear overlap between comic book fans and Banzai fans will result in any kind of sales.

If nothing else, though, it feels like the entire collection of 80s cult SF/fantasy films is tapped out, with the exception of the Bakc to the Future films, and I can't see Zemeckis and Spielberg selling the rights to those.
