MARVEL ANNOUNCES 3RD COVER FOR NEW AVENGERS #1
Press Release
MARVEL ANNOUNCES THIRD VARIANT COVER FOR NEW AVENGERS #1
The response to Marvel Comics’ make-over of their blockbuster super hero team the Avengers has been nothing short of phenomenal. As unveiled in USA Today, Marvel’s “Dream Team” of costumed classics like Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, and Luke Cage has set fire to fans’ imaginations and has led to intense interest in The New Avengers #1. Due to popular demand, Marvel will go back to press on this introductory issue…and they’ve got it covered with yet another spectacular treat for frantic followers of this newest super-team.
The third variant cover of The New Avengers #1 will feature an extra-special new cover by none other than Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada.
The variant cover’s amazing origins are linked to the star-studded alternate covers for The New Avengers #1-6; it’s Quesada’s original sketch for the complete six-part art that’s formed by the covers. Fans will be able to possess this titanic image in two distinct formats: Quesada’s new cover and by linking the 6 alternate covers together as one.
Marvel is also pleased to announce that retailers orders are not tied in to any of the other variant printings of The New Avengers #1 …but fans will still want to grab theirs fast because when word gets out, this new printing of the introduction of the greatest super-team ever is going to FLY!
This additional version of The New Avengers #1 is due in comic shops on Dec. 15th. Please visit Marvel.com to view every one of these legend-in-the-making covers.

Wow. As a rule I don't like varient covers, but Joe Quesada's pencils & Richard Isanove's colour go really well together. I'll be intrested to see what the 1-6 covers look like with different artist's doing a bit each.

While I don't see the need of this, it is still a great piece of art.

Why isn't Daredevil on the cover? Or is he the ninja-looking guy?
I like this cover a lot though (although some of the proportions, like Cap's chest and wolvie's shoulders, look a bit off). If it's available, I'll pick up this version.

Isn't this cover basically all the other variant put together into one picture?

I agree with Zadillo. What's going on with Cap's chest? Reminds me of the Liefeld version.

You might have missed it, but in the PR above, Quesada says that this variant is basically his original design for what all the variants put together would look like.

Sentry
I'm one of those folks who skipped the whole Sentry thing a couple years back.
Can somebody give the Cliff Notes version of the character and what his deal is?
Thank you.

Wolverine looks like a 300 pound linebacker in full padding! I do like the Sentry's look though very majestic.

Well, I guess the good news is this variant doesn't follow the crap involved with the other variant for this issue. However, this is still the second variant/3rd version of this one issue. Plus the image is pretty crappy. Quesada's art hasn't looked good at all since his Iron Man covers.

I think this is a pretty horrible looking cover (although I do like the coloring).... what's up with odd proportions for Cap and Wolverine? Simply terrible! And "Mysterious Ninja Stick Guy?" "He" looks way too stiff.

Daredevil ain't on the team. The Ninja guy is some sort of new character I bet.

Jenkins created a character who had "supposedly" existed in the 60's with the rest of Silver Age Marvel, but whenever he was active, so was his evil counterpart (forget the name), who was really deadly. So in order to contain the evil, Reed Richards wiped out everyone's memory of the Sentry, including the memory of the Sentry himself so that his evil side would never surface. The series is essentially, the Sentry's memory returning, while figuring out the mystery of his past. And, of course, at the end of the series, he loses his memory again, along with everyone else's memory of the Sentry.
But of course, Bendis doesn't seem to care about this. (kneejerk fan reaction: how do you know? you haven't read it yet!) Well, if he has actually read the Sentry mini, then he realizes that every single New Avengers story would have to be fighting against the Sentry's dark side.

Maybe the "S" guy floating in the middle is just "Super Stan" to stay "Hi" to Marvel's newest heroes

I don't get it. What ratio will this be alloted in? Will there be 20 regular issues for every one of these? 30? 50?

This is out of control. Marvel has one or two variants for every book they declare as an "event". Can't we just get back to the storytelling. This is starting to get on my nerves.
