" I couldn't be more proud of the work we've all done on Hal Jordan's return, " says Johns. " Ethan Van Sciver is about to be the artist everyone is talking about. Thanks to everyone at DC and the retailers for their support! "
" Both consumer and retailer anticipation for GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH is very high, " says Bob Wayne, DC ' s VP - Sales & Marketing. " By getting the new printing into stores as quickly as possible, we ' re doing everything we can to sustain the project ' s momentum. "

This isn't amazing, I was waiting for something like that, Hal Jordan was a real hero, and I missed him, but I don't like this "reborn" of the character. When he died in Final Night, was totally awesome, but now he's alive, and for me this is not the same Green Lantern I loved.

Wow, it looks like this miniseries is going to be really popular. I hope I can get a copy of the first issue tomorrow. I want to see what happens to Kyle Rayner.

not to be a total cynic....
what stuns me most is that ten years, a full decade, later, this many people still care.
then again, Emerald Twilight was a brand-new, on-the-shelves, foil-cover extravaganza when I first started reading comics, so I will cop to the fact that I never formed that childhood connection with the character that so many others have (not starting into comics until senior year of high school also probably affects my outlook).
Still, geez, ten years is a long time.

Not true. Marvel has their trades solicited shortly after an arc. DC doesn't always do that, or else we'd have a Flash ignition trade by now.

I see what you mean, but I don't buy what your selling. That thread is what, 20, maybe 30 people on a VERY small messageboard talking about buying multiple copies.
Even if every person on that thread followed the same suit as the guy who bought 20 copies, you would still have no more than 600 copies total.
I bet Rebirth sold close to 80,000 copies. Most of those are going to be die-hard fans who have been waiting for this event for years.
Awesome News!
Let the Haters Hate. GL is Great!

My question now is...get the first printing/cover tomorrow, or wait a couple weeks and get a 2nd printing with a different cover?
Either way, looking forward to this story; I'll try to reserve judgment for after the series.
Perhaps a preview image of the 2nd printing cover will be up, and I can decide before my trip to the comic store this week...
~Walt's $.02
EDIT: Unless that image at the top of the article IS the variant? I've seen several images used quite a bit, and no longer certain what's what.

Possible variants
Here are some exciting variant cover ideas:
1. An alternate cover showing the ring on Hal's LEFT hand!
2. ... or with Hal sporting grey temples!
3. ... or a dog collar, a la the revised Rayner suit!
4. Speaking of dogs... G'Nort.
5. A title change to reflect Hal's religious conversion, Green Lantern: Born Again!

Man what is wrong with DC?? Why don't they just put out a "Director's Cut" for a $1.00 or more and have it orderable the same time as #1 or #2. Better yet, why don't they package it with the first 3 issues and call it a "Must Have"? Oh, DC is smart and realize that if a fan can get the issue in their hands they are more likely to pick up the entire series instead of taking advantage of the huge sales by forcing fans to pay more for what they may not want. Good job DC!

It's silly to buy multiple copies of this book. Twelve months from now, the first issue will be a $5 book at most. There might be a momentary bubble, but if anyone intends to make anything on this book, it'll have to be done while the mini-series is still going, like say, about when #6 is coming out.
Take a look at Crisis on Infinite Earths. It came out, what, 20 years ago? Now you can pick up a 12-issue set for $20 on eBay. Worthless except for its entertainment value. Speculation is for fools.

Well, I've always watched the great GL debate from afar and admired/pitied the depth of emotion shown by all concerned. And I respect that fans are putting their money where their mouths are, so to speak. I used to be a HUGE Rush fan back in the late 70s early 80s and would buy each release on record and cassette, and then CD also, just to support the band and have each product issued. But believe me, even at 14 or so I realized it was mildly idiotic as it didn't really effect the bottom line for the band.
I got back into comics around 1980 at age 14 or so and focused primarily on Marvel and independents until Perez, Byrne, and Miller went to DC. And later Starman hooked me, leading to The Golden Age by James Robinson and around one-half my purchases now go to DC (Gotham Central this month rocked!!!!!!). But the whole GL thing has always fascinated me. Why isn't Alan Scott the one, true GL? Isn't he the Archtypical GL? In the aforementioned Golden Age miniseries, when Alan Scott grabs some bundled newspapers off the sidewalk and throws them threw a window, quickly following through to apprehend some baddies in themendously heroic fashion is one of my favorite comic scenes ever (as well as Ozymandias catching the bullet in Watchmen and "But me, I'm magic" from Bullseye to Electra in DD 181), forever imprinting on my brain that Alan Scott is Da' Man. Then he was featured so well in Starman. To me Alan Scott is the one true GL, just as Jay is the Flash, and Ted, not Jack, Knight is the true Starman. Jack just happens to be MY favorite Starman, and I dig Wally West too as Flash (at least when Waid wrote it). But yer luv for Hal is beautiful man, just beautiful. Congrats on getting him back. I'm all over the place in this post, I know.

why are they stupid?
because they prefer not to wait for trades? please.
that's why great series like wildcats 3.0 and 21 down have gotten canceled.

Sheesh. Can't the people who are buying 10 copies of this put one or two back on the shelf and pick up a copy of She-Hulk or Manhunter? Instead of having your retailer pay the extra to ship those new books in, reward him by buying something that's been sitting on his shelf for a while, like the Focus books.

Doesn't this just mean that the stores have ordered all the available copies?? I don't think it has anything to do with how many are purchased by the average comics consumer. I bet there will be tons of copies at my local comic store.

I wonder how this will effect sales for the new Bucky: Reborn series.
Or the Barry Allen: Reborn series.
This is the reason I no longer become invested in comics: if something bad happens to a character you like, just wait a while -- it'll be reversed.
God forbid stories ever move forward when there's so much back pedalling we can do.

Damn, Van Sciver has improved by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. I'd love to see him come back to CyberFrog someday with all the skills he has learned since those days.

HA, Just noticed the editors note, so basically all "selling out" means is that the retailers ordered a whole ton, which means that there will be a ton of these at my local comic store
