THE PRO HARDCOVER

Jimmy Palmiotti and friends (that would be Garth Ennis and Amanda Conner) have provided Newsarama with three of the eight pages from the all-new Pro story contained in the upcoming The Pro hardcover collection, due in stores in November 3rd.

If you’ve missed out on The Pro the first time, well…leave your sensibilities at the door. As the description of the hardcover reads:

She curses, she smokes, she breast-feeds and she blows away the competition. Just when you think Garth Ennis has gone too far, just when you thought it was safe to walk the streets, just when you thought no one would go near the idea of the world's first superhero prostitute...here comes The Pro!

Reintroducing the outrageous story of The Pro in a deluxe oversized hardcover edition, plus an all-new, eight-page story by Garth Ennis, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti! In "The Pro Meets The Ho," our plucky heroine comes up against a new and fearsome challenge: a super-powered "soiled dove" whose powers of perversion exceed the Pro's own! Find out who triumphs in this tussle of the tarts, as The Pro's creative team returns to the sticky-floored success that made them otherwise unemployable! You'll never go to the zoo again!

Also included are additional Amanda Conner development and production sketches.

Newsarama Note: These pages are in no way work, or child friendly. Use your best judgment, and no, we are not talking to your boss or parent on your behalf if said boss or parent happens to be looking over your shoulder while you’re reading about "The Pro Meets The Ho”

I absolutely loved the Pro so I'll be scrapping up the cash for the hardcover.

I bought the prestige issue when it came out and wasn't impressed. Futile and juvenile. So purchasing this hardcover for an extra 8 pages is not on my agenda.

With the talent involved it would be fun to see a toughtfull project. I am sure it would be very good.

Of course. look who is writing. All of Ennis's writing strikes me as somehting I wrote back when I was younger (9th grade or so), and thought it was cool to write horrible violent sex-filled romps. Then I would throw that stuff away. I used to call it purging, becuase it made it easier to write my other stories without having the urge to throw something juvenile in them.

Ennis does the same thing, only he publishes them. And recieves acclaim for it.

I haven't even heard about this collection. They need to do these promos earlier so we can preorder the stuff.

Also, when are they going to do some new standalone material? A new 8-page story is cool, but I'd rather it be with something all-new, rather than something I already have.

Jimmy:

Had the pleasure of meeting you and Amanda at the Pittsburgh Comicon in April (I was witness to the cruel genius that is the POPE joke) and I'm glad to see you kids kicking out more PRO stuff.

PERSONALLY, I thought it was a great kick to the sack for super-hero purists and, frankly, you have to have a great love of super-heroes to want to skewar them like that. Well done.

I think there's a shortage of meta-human handjobs in comics these days.

Just my opinion, though.

Rent Girl spoiled me on The Pro

After reading Tea and McCubbin's "Rent Girl", I don't think I could read this. I am huge fan of the great talents involved in the book, so this is kind of a surprise. Ennis has always written great, strong female characters. In fact, I'd say only two or three other guys are in his league.

So, while I get that it's a joke, I'm finding it hard to suspend my belief that a prostitute who gets superpowers would spend more time being a whore.

Plus, it's really crass to make a hardcover of something that's been out for a while and throw in a measly eight pages to get people to buy it twice.

I'll skip it.

It's not even a collection, right? Wasn't the original release 48 pages? Possibly 56? This might be one of the thinnest hardcover graphic novels.

The story was alright. I don't think it's fair for anyone to say, "Oh, he wrote Preacher, he's a god no matter what he writes." But I did read Preacher, and I don't think it's fair of others to say that everything he writes is juvenile.

I do think he had one great hit, and that's pretty much it.

The Pro was crap when I first read it too. It's still crap and so has been everything I've read from Ennis. Juvenile tripe that uses shock value to sell and little more.

And yes, Preacher and Punisher too. Even his war stories.

Re: THE PRO HARDCOVER

I was just wondering two days ago what Amanda was doing these days (besides Jimmy, I suppose). I really love her artwork, and would like to see more from her.

I really enjoyed "The Pro" when it was... er... released. Somehow missed the Hardcover in Previews, but I'd be interested in having it. I'll talk to my shop this week.

Don't understand the naysayers on this. It's a fun book. Garth is, admittedly, one of my favorite writers, based mostly on Preacher and Hitman. His war stories haven't hit me the same way, but that's the nice thing about him, is that he does have more than one type of story in him. And Pro is meant to be over-the-top-Ennis. They never pitched it as anything other than that.

If you can enjoy Vetch's Brat Pack (as I do as well), then you should enjoy this.

Now, please, get Amanda on a (semi)regular series. Thank you.

Wow, I seriously can't believe some of the comments in this thread. Different strokes for different folks.

At any rate, I LOVED the Pro- it was really, really funny. The only thing that confuses me is this 8 page story. Is that it?!?! The other version was only 58 pages, plus 8 makes 64... so a 64 page hardcover?!?! Please tell me there is more pages to this edition... please?

y'know, i'd be willing to give people some leeway on preacher, hitman and v.4 punisher (but not so much on v.5) -- but war stories?

juvenile?

i defy you to actually read a stories like 'johan's tiger' or 'j for jenny' or 'nightingale' and say they are juvenile. and just for kicks, ennis also wrote one of the best enemy ace stories ever (war in heaven) -- and yeah, that just musta been full of fart jokes and potty humor, right?

it's really hard to take anyone spouting such nonsense serious.

just about to say that. Hitman was great. I assume the people who hate Ennis' work so much are the same ones who say Tarantino just writes cussin' and violence. To each his own.

just to clear things up...

this is a larger size hardcover of the original pro book we worked on 2 years ago.

We did a new 8 page story for the back that takes place in the timeline of the original story.

garth wrote a two page intro in the front, amanda shows some of her sketches in the back.

this book was done in the larger size with the hardcover so it could get out to other markets besides comic shops , and also made for the die hards that loved the book and wanted to have it in a larger hardcover format.

adventurer. hdefined, cerebud, dougie...if its all crap, why come here and post that? isnt it enough that you just dont buy it? no one is MAKING anyone buy the book twice...this is america. choose what you want to do, but there has to be better ways to spend your time.

the book is a spoof... an eisner award nominated spoof of superheroes.

I understand if you dont get it, dont like it...ect...but the anger here...my god. it is embarrassing. we worked hard on this book and invested time and our own personal money to do it...just so you understand that when you attack it, i HAVE to take it personal on some level.

calling things crap is just too easy...

OH, and last i checked rent girl just came out, unlike the pro which is over two years old, and the only thing they have in common is that a hooker is the main character...after that, its like comparing donald trump to iron man. either way, I hear good things about rent girl...so i am going to give it a chance in spite of your reccomendation to everyone to just " skip it" when buying the pro.

ok...now give me some shit for this...lol...

Regarding this thing finally coming out: 'Bout damn time! Since you're around Jimmy P, care to share the story about why this took so long?

Regarding Amanda getting on a regular series (assuming she wants that): Hell yeah! Loved her stuff since Gate Crasher, and liked her since I met her at the 2000 Con.

Nah, I've a big advacote for "Different Strokes" and Book Varity. And I enjoy a good parody, same as the next man. I just find Ennis to be the biggest One Trick Pony of all. I'm just expressing my opinon.

What else have you writen BTW? I can't remember if I've read any of your work before.

AMANDA does illustrations for spin magazine, mad magazine and a monthly gig for revolver magazine.

as for comics, amanda and I just did a short story for the vampirella halloween special due out ...I think next week.

Amanda is looking at a few projects, but unlike a lot of artists, does not have the speed for a monthly...so when she does pick and choose...its usually something a little out there. if you met her , you will understand that more.

and adventurer...I co write with Hustin Gray hawkman, monolith and have a conan one shot out right now. all opinions are cool...but they dont have to be mean.
