The art looks pretty good, excpet for the fact that in 7 pages NOTHING HAPPENED! What a complete waste of space. no wonder theres 48 pages, since I know 7 are worthless right off the bat. Why are comics in general becoming like this? NOTHING HAPPENED, it might as well have been solid black pages, or better yet, solid white so you can draw a relevent story in the 7 pages that were wasted. I'm sure the excuse is it's to show off the new costume, well thats great, but 1 splash page does that. I'll wait for the trade like I always do so that in the 150 page trade i get at least 20 story pages.

ehhh...
I'm not wowed, but I'm willing to give this a shot. Ellis rocks. Adi "Young Gun" Granov's art seems lifeless. Lifeless but pretty. Like a dead cheerleader.

pages look great! But I didnt think Ellis would ever use the silly character talking to himself to explain the context of the story route? Or was he talking to be recorded by something? Nonetheless I am sold!

It looks good
But since Tony stark has saved literally millions of lives, I don't think he needs to be the mouthpiece for the anti-military propaganda.
Plus, again, a third of the book for him t put on a suit and fly away. In the old days (like, 5 years ago) , we were half way into the story by then

continuity question
Page 1, panel 3.....I guess Tony Stark never had heart problems.
Where are the scars from his heart operations? I thought the Iron Man suit helped keep him him alive.
Or has all this been "retconned" away?

The art is pretty. I like the art...
The word balloons kinda bother me though because it's Tony talking to himself. I think it would have been better to have... thought balloons or inner dialogue boxes for those parts.
I also remember when it took Tony SECONDS to slip into his armor. It's frustrating that because of (I'm guessing here) The Ultimates and the twenty man team that needs to help him put the suit on in THAT universe, we have the not easily stored and lengthy suiting up scenes. The fact that it doesn't fit into a suitcase anymore is quite logical. Busiek finally changed that. The fact that it doesn't seem to be storable in ANY form is a bit more frustrating.
Oh, and why is Tony naked? I know, I know, I'm ranting a bit, but Iron Man is by far my favorite character... his being naked doesn't really make too much sense to me and reaks of The Ultimates (again).
Still, all that complaining aside, there is no way I'll miss out on this issue. Great art, IRON MAN, and 48 pages. I'm cool.

Just what the world needs! Yet another great, innovative concept from the wonderful House of Ideas! Good going Joe!

It's the same suit. Joe Q has stated that the suit will only change if there's a STORY to go behind it, not a creative team switch.
Aside from the faceplate, I really like this armor.

I'm a long-time Iron Man fan (all the way back to the first Michilinie/ Layton run) so I'm looking forward to this with a degree of optimism. However, Granov's art, while aesthically pleasing when viewed on a panel by panel basis, doesn't seem very dynamic and doesn't seem to convey a strong sense of storytelling. Here's to hoping it gets better quickly.

Why's Tony talking to himself? Never been a fan of Ellis, but I may give this a crack.
Can anyone give me a brief rundown as to whats been happening with Iron Man the last couple of months.

Anybody ever see that episode of the Simpsons where homer gets morbidly obese and leaves his job to stay at home and work? Then he relies on that bobbing chicken-dealy to do his home job? Seems to me someone at Marvel HQ left one of them on their "reset" button, and took off to read Vertigo and Oni books to look into this new fangled "originality"...

I think Ellis is going for a "feel"
All speculation of course, but he(Ellis) may be going for the angle that Tony is not a "super hero" but a guy wearing what basically amounts to a form fitting fighter jet. Showing the pre-flight checks, getting into his g-suit, etc.

Looks good. This is the pseudo relaunch so you've got all the setup of the series for new readers and even a recap of where things are now for old. (if you actually take time to read the words in those balloons you'll see he's talking to his voice log or journal not just to himself)
I like the art style a lot myself. It very much suits the series in concept. Anyone who works in the tech industry knows how uniform and drab it can be and I think that the art is going to capture some of the reality of Tony's world here and portray one of the reasons he still has for climbing in the armor and that's a bit of escapism from reality.
As for the naked issue, do you think it would be comfortable to be wearing a three piece suit under the armor? Again if you take time to look at the pretty pictures he climbs into a skin tight under suit which likely contains sensors to monitor his body, the suit environment as well as response mechanisms requiring direct contact to his skin.
So far this seems to make a lot more sense than it did in the past and is one of the things that I think has been re-invigorating Marvel's books. They've re-thunk their sci-fi from a current POV. Back in the sixties they expected us to be flying around in jet cars and living on the moon by now. Marvel's looking at their books and saying that is just plain silly and re-thinking the books from a modern perspective. This is sci-fi that the modern person can relate to now. Good for them!
I will definitely check this one out.

Lookin' forward to this, my first Iron Man #1. I like Granovs art from his run on covers and i think his Minimalist backgrounds are good for this book, as a lot of the time Tony is in the air, moving really fast, so the backgrounds will be a blur. i haven't read much of Warrne Ellis, apart from a crappy Storm mini from like 1997, so i'm cautiously optimistic (though i've heard he can be a tad slow)

He's doing his Captain's Log, like Picard used to. That's why he's talking to himself. Other than that, 7 pages of Tony suiting up and having a character moment. People moan when the plot isslow, but I'd rather have characters that seem realistic personally. Eh, one mans trash...
The art'sabit dull, but as its Ellis and as its clear and easy on the eye, I'll pick it up.

You can consider me a troll then. Everything I've seen from Ellis over the last 2 months has been like this. Half the books are pinup pages with no dialog. UFF, Ultimate Nightmare, the 4 page Ocean preview I looked at Monday and now this. It may look pretty, but that looks like some pretty lazy storytelling to me, especially for the prices they charge nowadays.
I went into UFF kind of neutral on Ellis, since I hadn't read anything of his in a number of years that I can remember and nothing recent. But everything I've seen of his seems like a major rip-off from a story standpoint. I've been buying Iron Man since Heroes Reborn, through the ups and downs, but I'm not going to pick up something that is only going to take me 5 minutes to read.
