Reputations

You know, it seems like every message board has a "reputation".

The Joey Q boards have a reputation for elitism (you either fit into the group, or you're thrown out - this isn't true, I don't think, but the reputation is still there for some unknowable reason).

I remember being told a few times how horrible Newsarama posters are. How they're mean, have no lives, spout off lies by the bushel, etc etc etc.

I'm happy to report that in the time I've been here, I haven't found any of those in noticable quantities.

I actually think the guys here are nicer than the Joey Q folks are.

Really? That's a shame.

I know a lot of people pick on OM, but I find him hilarious, and he's always a fun read.

That's so sad.

But then again, I wouldn't want more trouble posters coming along just to cause trouble. Having me is enough for these boards!

I've checked out a bunch of comic message boards, and this is the only one I've ever stayed with. They all have there share of stupid/ aggressive posters, but this one is pretty balanced.
I enjoy a pointless fanboy thread as much as the next guy, but there are thoughtful, and THINKING people here. Newsarama is by FAR the least nasty of the sites I've seen. We discuss everything from the most mundane to the most "fantastic" here and I love it.

Huzzah to us!

I've said this before: if everyone would not take EVERYTHING so damn seriously, there wouldn't be a problem. It's mostly opinions about COMIC BOOKS!! for gods sake!

...

My first response to this was really negative, and after reading it I realize it would probably be a good idea if I stepped back from the 'rama for awhile. All the BS of the last few days has kind of gotten to me.

The negativity wasn't aimed at you in any way, shape or form, DD ... quite frankly, you rock. Keep it up!

I'm sorry to hear that JK.

We all have our "down" times, and sometimes it's not our fault. I hope you're back soon!

Every board has a rep, you just have to get past the assholes and the dip shit to get a feel for the board. Sometimes it is hard to do.

The other board i used to post to has a terrible rep, but its one of the biggest for the genre of music that it covers. the people at my other board tend to be... elitist at best, down right rude to newcomers at worst. this board is a breath of fresh air compared to my old one.

I post to a folk-music board ( hey I like it) mudcatcafe, and they are the friendliest most welcoming bunch of people you could meet. I donīt go on any rock music boards as they are all elitist arseholes who have absolutely nothing to say. I must say I had never heard that Nrama had a rep. But if it does it is really undeserved.

yea, the one i post to is a bit of an underground rap (for lack of a better term that most folks would understand) kind of board. the neat thing is that if you listen to this certain type of music you can interact with the people who make the music most of the time. they are always happy to sell you a cd, and most of the time if you buy it directly off of them they will send it to you autographed, or you will get a free t-shirt or something like that with it. however you also have all the people who listen to this, and they have an attitude of "if you weren't listening to this when it first hit the scene in the mid-90's then dont even bother coming here" which kinda sucks, and new people get driven away all the time as a result.

It does exist, or at the very least I've noticed it to exist. I remember saying something that was posted here, and the sneers that took place when I mentioned it was from Newsarama.

And, yeah, it's not deserved.

It's hard to do, but take my word for it, once you do, it's a lot more fun to watch it from the outside in a slightly disconnected manner, in a The Sims kind of way, and occasionally go in to add something or nudge something.

I feel sympathy for people who can get so wound up in debates/discussions here, and a little awed that Nrama can become such a big part of people's lives, but in the end if you get into fights with the dipshits and they relaly start to bug you...and not meaning to offend...so what?

One person, or a small group of people don't like what you like, don't think the same thing you do...so? Is that really a serious threat to your well being or continued existance? To quote Feynman, "What do you care what other people think?"

If you make a friend, you make a friend - great! But here, just like the real world, not everyone is going to agree with you, not everyone is going to be nice and polite in the manner they express themselves.

This board was my first and well you always remeber your first.

But I also found a bunch of people whom I have a lot in common with besides comics. I mean aj, cyke and I practically share a sense of humor. Plus this place has been very good to me and even when I feel like th bullshit has gone overboard something always makes me feel beeter. I love this place. Oh and I'm a little drunk now not that it matters...
