DEVIL'S DUE - BACK WITH MORE GI JOE vs. TRANSFORMERS

At their Saturday panel, Devil’s Due announced a sequel to GI Joe/Transformers, hinted at their upcoming superhero line, and more.

First up, the sequel to GI Joe vs. Transformers will launch in September, and will take place in the same alternate universe as the original, that is, one where GI Joe and Transformer technology exists side by side.

As Devil’s Due explains it: “In the new series, picking a few years after the original, Cybertronian (Transformer) technology has found its way into our own on Earth. The fragmented Cobra organization now uses this for their own purposes, but the Military isn’t without their own. In issue one, Cobra Commander has set his sights on a highly advanced prototype Cybertronian computer that could make his forces unstoppable. Of course things go haywire, and the problems result in an epic story of time travel, military action, and science fiction. “

The new mini will be written by Dan Jolley, with art by Tim Seeley and E.J Su. According to the publisher, Su and Seeley will split the art dutiues, with Seeley supplying figures, and Su working on the mechanical designs and backgrounds.

Speaking with Newsarama, Devil’s Due chief Josh Blaylock said that the decision to go back for another helping of GI Joe/Transformers wasn’t a difficult one. “The last series performed outstandingly for us, and there were a plethora of cool ideas for a follow up, so it was a no-brainer,” Blaylock said. “As for the story - after all the bad guys were stopped and the day was saved, the Autobots made a deal with Allied countries to help construct a new space craft - the Ark II, and left for their home planet, Cybertron. In return, we received quite a bit of this technology, which has forever changed our military, and in some cases, civilian lives.”

Also in GI Joe news, Blaylock told Newsarama that GI Joe: Master and Apprentice #1 sold out one day after it’s on sale date, and a second printing is coming shortly.

Hmm... there is no mention of a deal with Dreamwave this time so should we be guessing that the deal was directly approved by Hasbro as it has been suggested and that Devils Due is chasing the TF liscense as rumored?

Meh.

I’ll only pick it up if there are not that many books released on the same day. The Dream Wave version blew Devil’s Due out of the water. I’d love to see A TF/GIJoe from them again.

I have to agree, the first series by Devils Due wasn't that spectacular, the Dreamwave version blew it out of the water, and I'm still nostalgic for the old Marvel mini-series. Wish they'd TPB that one for those who missed it the first time around.

With everything else coming out this fall, don't think I'll be picking this up. But here's hoping my retailer saved me a copy of Master & Apprentice #1. Didn't get into the shop this week.

That's UDON not Devil's Due.

I don't really expect there to be a switch. Dreamwave is just too tight with Hasbro with lots of their artwork being used for licensing, toy designs and box art etc.

DW isn't planning a sequel to TF vs Joe, so there was nothing to mention. Their next mini-series are still: MicroMasters, War Within III, and then which ever series wins the Summer Special Survey, Beast Wars or RiD. Those, two TF ongoing titles and the possibility of another MTMTE Profile book will take them thru the next twelve months.

Three comics and the occassional MTMTE book a month is all they want to do with the series so that they don't over-saturate their market. They feel that asking $9 a month (USD) and the occassional special item like MTMTE is a reasonable about to ask for their die-hard fans that buy everything TF.

I guess I'd agree with that, had Jae Lee used colors other than black, light black, dark black, charcoal, and occasional splashes of gray.

Yes, Grimlock as a friggin' huge tank was inspired, but Devil's Due's version spoke to the kid inside who remembers seeing them both on tv.

although I liked Dreamwave's crossover better, I will still get this one. I have Devil's Due's first vol, so I might as well get this one. As of right now, Dreamwave has no plans for making a vol 2 to TF/Joe, but they have said that if there is enough demand for it, then it just might happen.

GI Joe/Transformers was pretty bland to me. Was okay, but I wouldn't call it good. Though it wasn't perfect, Transformers/GI Joe was much better and I would love to see how things picked up in the years after us being exposed to Cybertronian tech in WWII would be... Too bad. Probably won't pick this up, but I hope it does well.

Yeah ... I like Jae Lee's artwork normally, but his approach in this series didn't work. It was too dark and I found myself constantly rereading the pages just to figure out what the hell was going on.

I might pick this up and leaf through it, only to replace it back on the shelf. The first run was ok, didn't really do much for me. But the DW Transformers vs. GI Joe . . . damn . . .that stuff was awesome. I'd love to see another run of that!

I couldn't stand the DW Transformers GI Joe, I dropped it after the first issue, like most stated before, it was really hard to read. I didn't feel like wasting my time trying to read something with life going on around me, so I just threw it in a box and haven't seen it since.

However, GIJoe/Transformers was AMAZING! I say this because wheeljack appeared on the cover to issues 6

(Wheeljack is my favorite tf)

Simon Furman stated that the Gijoe/TF (#1-4) & Transformers/Action Force (UK#25, Action Force #24-27) will not be reprinted due to current licence laws with Hasbro. Not allowed to reprint stuff featuring 2 Hasbro toy lines in the same story. But you can reprint Transformers & Spiderman/Death's Head story - due to Marvel getting money on it.

Cool I liked the first one, and its good they are gohna follow up on the little cliff hanger.

I thought Devil due captured more the old cartoon version of the transformers, as apposed to dreamwave who went with more of the old mavel comics side, so that was interesting. I wasn't that keen on some of the new looks, and starscream should have been red (WHY WAS HE BLACK).

Being not a big fan of GIJOE, only reading the Megatron G2 cross over where the turned him into a tank, I didn't really know who the charters were. But Devil due sort of introduced them for me cause it take Joe back to the begging and allows for people who were not fans of the show to get to know who these guys are.

I still haven't got around to reading all of dreamwaves version, thought it was ok, and I guess in theirs you have to be a fan of GIjoe for that side, but i'm just there for the transformers. What I don't get though is why does megatron (in every crossover) put up with that little masked guy, I mean I thought he was an ok bad guy, but he is just a human, I'd really like to see megatron step on him

Peace out
