MARVEL REVEALS COVER SKETCH FOR ASTONISHING X-MEN #1 DEL OTTO VARIANT
Press ReleaseWHAT IS HARD TO GET DESPITE THREE COVERS, AND AN ASTONISHING CREATIVE TEAM? THE SECOND VARIANT COVER TO ASTONISHING X-MEN #1!
Red-Hot Gabriel Dell'Otto (Secret War) & superstar Richard Isanove (Origin) are teaming up to drive the excitement to a fever pitch on Astonishing X-Men #1, providing an incredibly limited "chase" collector's cover!
This ultra-limited variant will feature Dell'Otto's pencils (not painting for the first time!), highlighted by the amazing digital painting that has made Isanove a household name! This incentive is limited to direct market retailers, and is designed to drive fans into stores on May 26, the release date for the year's most anticipated debut.
"John Cassaday is one of my favorite artists. To approve this, we had to have someone special. And what Gabriel did was give everyone an absolute treat! And, it IS a treat -- it's not like we're doing six months of variants here!" offered Marvel Editor in Chief, Joe Quesada.
Nodding in quick agreement, Marvel's Publisher, Dan Buckley offered, "Joe's absolutely right - when the guys showed me Gabrielle's cover sketches, we all just about screamed! This is truly a treat for fans and a nice gift to the retailers who are taking a strong position on this book."
Retailers should note that this third cover is available only as an incentive, and qualifying orders must be placed by the Astonishing X-Men Final Order Cut-off Date of May 6! Retailers should contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative for details on this promotion, and fans should check with their local comic book retailer.
Please Note: Only orders for the regular edition of the book - not the Variant Cover Edition or Director's Cut - that are placed by May 6 qualify for this incentive.

Here's a question. Which cover is the regular one? The group shot or the Wolverine hand?

So...
1) Regular Cover
2) Variant Cover
3) Director's Cut Edition
4) Incentive Cover
...Why don't we just break out the Holochome and be done with it!

So I'm a little confused, are these all coming out at the same time?

Try as I might, I just can't get excited about this "super-duper" variant. I'll buy the "regular" book but Marvel will have to work on their gimmicks some more if they want me to give a damn.

Not painted by Dell'Otto? Are they mad?
The "regular" cover is indeed the weakest, the Wolverine hand by Cassaday, although the colouring has been tweaked from how it looked in the preview, and it's looking a lot nicer now.

Wait, wait, you forgot the Gold Foil and the Glow-in-the-dark covers. Shame on you
Whatever bad things can be said about CrossGen, at least they never gave us variant or "gimmick" covers.

Ha!, I remember holochrome. I also remember that they were rarely any good. I think the only holochrome cover I enjoyed was the batman 500 issue with the the JoeQ cover. I really hope that marvel isn't thinking of trying to spark the collectors maket again, because quite frankly I don't think they're going to be too sucessful. Too many people got burned the last time I think.

Y'know, the folks who cry 'FOUL' the loudest are the ones that feel obligated to pick up all the different versions to feel as if they have a complete set. Folks who plan to just snag the regular version and be content don't give a flip how many versions there are. I happen to be a completeist (sp?) so it irks me to have to shell out more dough to have the set. (...for me a complete set of Battlechasers 1 - 9 consists of 25 issues... sheesh!! )

we as comic readers shouldent have anything bad to say about cross gen.All their books were well written with great art work and they were always on time.the fact that they had trouble paying their employees really has nothing to do with us, the readers,no matter what we think or say, it isent our place to judge except on story and art work, which always received favorable reviews.

This is so much crazier than what DC did with Batman.
Marvel should be utterly ashamed.

Well, I'm getting all of them - I have no shame in being a completist.
Also, this isn't any worse than what DC are doing with, for example, Superman/Batman #1 and #8 and Batman #619.

Actually, it is. Once the original printings sold out, DC went back to press and slapped a new cover on the new printings. Sure some ppl went back to get it just to "complete their set," but the point is, the new covers were on the reprints only. With Batman 619, there were two covers, 50/50 split.
With Marvel, they are just printing different covers to get ppl to buy them all. Hell, AXM hasn't even hit the stands yet, and already there are a crap load of variants. And DC didn't do this retailer incentive b.s. either.

It's a good thing Joe's been fighting to keep those varient covers at a minimum.

There is a gold foil and non-gold foil of the Monika's Butt variant. Or are you counting both as the same?

You know what.... I'm just going to buy whatever cover my shop puts in my pull box. Variant covers have never made me buy more than one copy, and I don't understand the point behind them.

Like Fetsur said, the one with Wolvie's hand is the regular and the group shot is the variant. Which was dumb enough, because the 'hand' cover is so incredibly bland it could cause the book to lose some sales from disinterest.
But then they go and use one of the weaker Del Otto sketches for the... uh, what are we up to now... variant variant variant cover instead of one of those with Beast & Emma on it too? Dumb choice.

Ditto, it's nice to have a choice of cover (i guess) but really, who needs more that one copy of the same story?
