Marvel news from Dublin City Comic Con (Nov 07)

Just back from the 2 day Dublin City Comic Con, and had a great time. One of the panels was a "Pint of Joe", hosted by CB Cebulski, on behalf of Joe Quesada. Here's some of the stuff he spilled (this is all from memory so if I got anything wrong, apologies in advance). No pics either, I'm just the lousiest reporter EVER!

Adjectiveless X-Men is to be cancelled. Mike Carey will start a new book called X-Men: Legacy which will feature rotating artists. The first artist will be John Romita Jr. CB showed a pencilled version and a fully coloured version of the cover to #1

Garth Ennis is writing a war series for Marvel (the name escapes me) with John Cassady doing covers. I think the concept is different series/one shots under one umbrella title. The first series is called Phantom Eagle. CB showed the pencilled version of the cover to #1, very sweet...

CB showed a number of different covers for upcoming issues. A cover to Uncanny X-Men shows Emma Forst and Cyclops standing inside the X-Mansion with a gaping hole in the wall. In the back ground we see Nightcrawler, Angel, Wolverine and Colossus all with their backs to us (Colossus and Wolverine with backpacks) as if they're leaving.

Avengers Fairy Tales!! #1 is a retelling of Peter Pan with Captain America as Peter Pan (the boy who never grew up/frozen in ice) and Wanda as Wendy. We saw the cover to #1 which looks breathtaking!

No Punisher Fairy Tales in the forseeable future . But they are looking at a Fantastic Four Fairy Tales volume 2.

Another NYX series, I think he said it's ongoing. Female writer, from outside comics, who pitched the series to Marvel. And they are aiming for a female artist/art team as well.

We saw a page from the upcoming Loners Annual. Female artists whose name I can't remember, but very reminiscent of Joshua Middleton (my vote for the NYX artist!

Secret Invasion looks like sometime in spring with the usual tie ins (ala House of M, Civil War and World War Hulk). 8 issue series.

This is ShamrockLad, signing off for now.. I need sleep!!!

(PS Hello to Jamie and Aidan!! Great to meet ye guys! And thanks to Jim Lee, John McCrea, Carlos Pacheco, Liam Sharp, Doug Braithwaite, Steve McNiven and Nick Roche for the sketches!! And big shout out to Steve Mooney, whose art on Angel: After the Fall looks amazing!)

WOW! Awesome news! Love the news of an all-female NYX book, and the Loners art is from the Marvel Holiday Special.

I've been waiting for Avengers Fairy Tales forever. Adrian Alphona is doing the Wizard of Oz ISSUE!

Oops on the Loners art! That makes more sense actually. I was too busy visually devouring it to listen to what anyone was saying.

As for the Avengers Fairy Tales, the cover to # 1 just looks amazing! Again, CB was talking what happened in some of other issues (She Hulk factors into one of them somehow), but I didn't get it all.

There was loads more stuff that CB went thru, there was a Q&A session before and after, but I can't recall it all. I'm gonna bring a notebook the next time.

The original X-Men and Prof X. It seems to be some sort of flashback series looking at different times in X-Men history. Not sure how it fits with X-Men First Class though...

Nice to see that Adjectiveless X-Men's cancellation is confirmed; so we're back down to two "primary" X-titles.

On the cover, what costumes are the original X-Men in? Their original blue/gold or others?

So, they finally give Carey a decent artist when the book is over?

Original blue & gold jumpsuits. Down to the original trunks and everything (although Iceman was Iceman and not Snowman). Don't know who the artist was though. Didn't recognise him/her.

....Don't you mean X-MEN FAIRY TALES[VOL II].....Not that a F4 FAIRY TALES isn't a bad idea.....

The {female} artist's name is ALINA URUSOV, who's doing the 10 page LONERS X-Mas Tale within this year's MARVEL HOLIDAY SPECIAL....{AND yes, the artwork does....!! }

I thought he meant a second X-Men Fairy Tales as well, cause when he said F4 I couldn't remember there being a Fantastic Four Fairy Tales.

To be fair to CB though, it was just him on the panel, and he fielded every question and answered all of them as best he could. (Even the "When will you stop the event comics?" and "Why are your books so late?" questions.)

I was there too, @ the Comicon in Dublin. Very good it was.

Looks like my prediction here is coming true: Wolverine is leaving the X-Men after Messiah Complex!

I didn't even know there was a Dublin Comic Con. Is it a big event? Jim Lee was there?

CBR has it continuing at #208 with just a new title. Wonder which is right?

You're doubting me??

Looking at the advance solicits on CBR, that's the cover and the title is correct. Maybe CB was misinformed? I'm definite that he said it was ending because I did a double take when he said it. His near exact phrase was "As you all probably know adjectiveless X-Men is ending and Mike Carey's moving to a new book called...". I sat there thinking "when did THAT happen?".

That said I also would have sworn he said JR JR was the artist. At least i got the cover descriptions right....

Was there anyone else there that can help me out here?? I really got to bring pen and paper to these things!

Hm, currently wolvie appears in

wolverine
wolverine: rigins
NA
AXM

regularly and at least every other month he pops up in other x-books (x-men, cable/deadpool, uncanny etc.)

now he's going to regularly appear in the same books but instead of popping up at the whim of the x universe in whatever book he'll be sticking to x-force? I could be okay with that if they stick to it and not have him appearing in current continuity x-books that ain't his all the time.

ShamrockLad, I've read it written elsewhere, widely, that X-Men is ending and is being replaced with X-Men: Legacy, yeah.

Regarding the Loners art, was what you saw either of these pages, found here at C.B.'s blog:
two preview pages.

If not, do you remember what you saw? If so, here's another look at it. And, either way, here you go, enjoy.

As I predicted: Mike Carey got ____ing screwed. Meanwhile, Brubaker continues on the one book he's not really good at. Fine. Whatever.
