You said:
THERE IS NOTHING TO DISAGREE ABOUT. SIGN A CONTRACT. OR DON’T. AFTERWARDS, IF YOU BITCH ABOUT IT, YOU’RE PATHETIC.
Well, I'm not sure the legal profession - which would collapse or lose half its income under such an assumption - would totally agree. Yes, as I've said previously, if you sign a contract then legally you have to abide by it (though lawyers usually find a way out of even the smallest, tightest clause). Do you have a right to grumble about the consequences later should they turn out differently than you expect? Sure you do and it's not pathetic, it's human nature. Will it help? Probably not. Should someone have been more careful about forsseing less obvious consequences. Equally, yes, hindsight is a pain in the ass. But as someone who works in Hollywood, I find it hard to believe *you've* never bitched about a deal you made where you didn't come out of it as well as you'd hoped. Doesn't make you pathetic. There's a difference between being tactful, being less tactful when asked or going all-out in a grudge match against those you feel 'dun you wrong'. For my money, Alan isn't beig tactful, not has he been going on an all-out offensive... he's simply being sought out for his opinion a lot at a time when it's very topical and he's not pulling his punches. (Though Alan's views are well known, the release of the film has cast new interest... this time last year I had no idea of what Alan was doing). He sees no reason for a 'no comment' so he can say whatever he wants - as long as he knows there's consequences (equally true if he stayed silent)
Don again...
FOR THOSE THAT CAN READ, FOX’S INSURANCE COMPANY SETTLED THE CASE. FOX DID NOT WISH TO DO SO. SO NO, FOX DID NOT SETTLE THE CASE.
Totally true in legal terms. Fox not wanting to settle and actually settling because they had to because their insurance insisted, are subtley different. But that's a very fine line argument-wise when you're involved in a case where you'd expect Fox's unconditional support in keeping your name and reputaion clear.
