View Full Version : Comics you'd like to see more one-shot stories in?

It seems to be working well for Detective Comics and The Spirit so far, so what other titles would you like to see do more one-issues storylines?
I'd like some Birds of Prey one-shots about individual members. More Lady Blackhawk and something on Gypsy. Not read her in anything before this.

Any team book could do with the ocassional one-shot going deeply into one or two of the characters, but they should be rare and not within the first 20 issues after a major shake-up.

I say any and all books can benefit from it. Mind you, they don't all have to be done-in-ones, but perhaps make the 6 issue arcs a rarity at best.

JLA Classified.
...if not one-shots, at least a few 2-3 issue arcs (like they have in JSA Classified), instead of the overtly dragged out 5-6 issue decompressagas.
Every book. I am so tired of six part arcs... I wish more books would mix it up with arcs of varying lengths.

The issue with one shot stories is that they dont usually fit in to trades all that well.

All of them. (I think I'm probably buying them all, at this point.)

Well Said. Case in point: Dini's upcoming Batman: Detective - a trade of his first six Detective Comics stories.

I agree with most people who have posted. All comics should have more one-shots, I'm bloody tired of every arc beeing 6 issues.

Agreed. That made no sense at all.
Anyways, I think the done-in-one format of Detective has actually held it back more often than not. I've almost dropped it a couple times now because of it. It's caused Dini to have odd pacing multiple times now or in some cases just rush right through the ending, or lack thereof.
If 22 pages is all that's needed for a particular story, that's great. I just don't want to see it artifically applied to all stories any more than I want to see the six parters each and every story.

whatever happened to the old fashioned 3 parters?
back in my day, it was amazing if a story was told in more then three.
of course I also climbed uphill both ways with no shoe's to get to my comics.

None, I think that these days superhero comics are not the best place for done in one issues.
The only really done in ones I've enjoyed in the last few years are non-superhero, Fell, Local, Demo etc.
Jonah Hex and Detective I'm not a fan of, I didn't dig the Spirit #1, but #2 was an improvement, so maybe their's hope.
I don't know if I'd count the last 6-issues of New Avengers as done in ones, as they all tied-in with Civil War and other events.

For any character with more than one title, one of those books should be one and done stories. Superman, Spiderman, Batman should have all have a oneshot series (and only Batman does). That might help when you have non-dedicated fans, who can pick up and enjoy a single book, and not look at Part 4 of 6, part 3 of 5 and part 2 of 8 and then go get a Snickers bar instead.

Dini's detective stuff does have pretty strange pacing. Lengthening the stories would probably help.

Both JLA and JSA classified need to be limited to either one-shots or two-parters.
The next issue of JLA classified has to be spectacular to keep me from dropping it.

X-Factor has balanced it nicely.
