With Smallville running reruns of the Flash (Impulse?) Aquaman, Green Arrow and Cyborg episodes, I finally got a chance to catch them all.

I really enjoyed them for the most part but have seen a lot of negative stuff about them on other boards.

What do you think about them?

Doesn't seem too bad to me. I've dug all the guest spots of the characters, especially GA.

I think it'll be all right.

I can't wait until the Justice League episode. "Run" and "Cyborg" were great. "Arrow" was alright, but "Aqua" was garbage.

the only one of them I can stand is Green Arrow.

I just wanna see if they'll actually make the Martian Manhunter look like he does in the comics...

I think "Run" is one of the best episodes. It was just awesome.

The thing I hate in Smallville is all the "clever" in-jokes they put in about the future. Like Aquaman saying they should form a Junior Lifeguard Association, which is a pretty contrived joke to allow Clark to say "I'm not ready for the JLA yet". The current season isn't being shown yet in the UK so I can't speak about Green Arrow or J'onn. Bart Allen was interesting, but nothing like any version of The Flash we've seen in the comics. Aquaman was annoying. Not to mention ridiculous in some of his dialogue
Aquaman: Do whatever you want to me, just don't hurt the fish.
Lex:....okay, you convinced me(!)
Cyborg's personality did seem the most accurate though, if not look and origin.

A resounding "yay". I've been enjoying the series from the beginning and especially so from the 3rd season onward. At least they're trying to be respectful with the characters within the confines of the medium, so I'm not offended if they alter certain aspects of the heroes shown. The show has to be in the high end when it comes to cost to produce and therefore some shortcuts are inevitable. I don't know how long this show will continue but I'm just pleased that it is even being broadcast. It has proven to be a "hit" at varying times and it will no doubt have great ratings once it returns, on up through the "JLA" episodes. I'm looking forward to this show and Heroes as well. I don't view much television but these two shows are the ones that I will make sure that I see every week.

I see no reason to denigrate this show or it's creative team as I've read others do. If they don't enjoy the show, that's fine, but it's no reason to run it down for the sake of being unduly harsh and negative. While they have their opinion, and I've served for them to have that opinion, I'll just agree to disagree as I continue enjoying the show as I have been. Those who don't care for Smallville can change the channel rather than suffer the indignity of having to watch something they abhor.

I haven't watched the show consistently in a long time, but I did catch the "Run" episode. I loved the fact that they let Flash be much faster than Clark. The comics usually do that, but for decades they'd always call Flash the fastest man alive but have races with Superman turn into ties. I think that it's great to show that there is *something* that Clark isn't the most powerful in.

I still don't know what Cyborg is doing on that list.

Yeah, I liked that as well. They kinda did that in the Aquaman episode as well, where they showed that A.C. was faster than Clark in the water.

My pre-Smallville "Justice" overview:

Pros:
- Gets the chance of seeign these characters live acted rather than animated or waiting FOREVER to see them in a movie.

- After two horrrible JLA live action shows (Challenge of the Superheroes (1978) Justice League of America TV Pilot (1997)), its great to see a JLA acted and treated right.

- I like the idea of them having a superhero team right at this time, and the nod back in"Aqua" where Clark said he wasn't ready, based on the JLA appearing before Superman in the Post-Crisis (1986-2005) continuity of the comics.

Cons:
- Not being able to see Batman in this JLA episode

- Not being able to see Wonder Woman in this JLA episode.

- No Martian Manhunter appearence (he appears in the episode after)

That's it so far.

I just cant get into Smallville's version of the JLA.

They completely destroyed the Flash legacy for a 5 second joke to setup a pickpocket punk Impulse (and not even a hint of his true origin)

For Aquaman, they reduced him to a jock with really bad vocabulary (and the first of many heroes to put it to Lois)

With Cyborg, they were too cheap to make him remotely cyborg-ish, so he's a regular black kid, only he bleeds oil whenever they want to prove their point.

And finally Green Arrow, who doesnt so much fight crime, as become a petty jewel thief who takes drugs on the side because he's envious of Superboy (and he's yet another hero to put it to Lois.....thats gonna be one awkward JLA meeting.....)

But considering theyve turned icons like Clark Kent and Lex Luthor into wimpering jokes, only living to serve Lana Lang's will, the producers have killed all my enthusiasm for their show.

Wow... it's like you've read my mind. I just pained my way through the terrible filler episode about immigrants yesterday, the episode had a less then 40 minute running time, shows how much thought went into it! And next weeks episode has Torri Spelling as the meteor freak/nemesis whatever, you just can't get any worse then that.

You wanna know the funniest thing about that episode?

Towards the end there's a scene where the immigrant jumps out of the truck and runs straight towards the psychotic farmer's field and......Clark can't catch him!

Lets just get this straight - SUPERMAN can't catch a small, tired, and hungry teen.

As I life-long Superman fan, I've been following Smallville pretty consistently since its inception. They often times, especially in the earlier seasons, really hit the mark when it comes to showing an insecure, confused teenager who is discovering he has superpowers.

There were, however, always some "not-so-great" elements to the show, including Lana Lang's characterization, which is miles removed from her comic book counterpart.

In recent years, I've become a bit jaded about Smallville. The writers have made some pretty poor choices in their attempts to keep the show interesting (Lana the Witch, Lana's Pregnancy, Clark's very strangely characterized super-powered girlfriend, making Jor-El seem pretty villainous, then changing their minds without ever truly explaining why Jor-El's "simulation" did the things it did, etc.)

I guess the biggest reason for my disillusionment with Smallville, however, is Clark Kent's complete lack of "super". After nearly six years of the show, he has shown little to no character growth. His leadership skills are practically non-existent, he doesn't inspire anyone, and he can't win a fight without help. If the show's mission statement was to show Clark grow toward being Superman, then its not doing all that well right now.

I really wanted to look forward to "Justice", but then I came across this official description of "Justice".

"An alarmed Chloe (Allison Mack) goes to Oliver for help, and the newly formed "justice league" springs into action to rescue Clark and Bart." In other words, this proto-Justice League forms in order to SAVE Superman.

This description, I think, proves my point about Clark being pretty much handled wrong in Smallville.

A yay, for laughs. Seriously, Aquaman? Cyborg? They picked the strangest heroes for the makeshift JLA. Smallville is one wacky show, I tell you.

Totally with you on the Cons! :)

Gotta ask, did you see the 78 Live Action show when it aired? When I was a kid I watched it loved it - but I was very, very little. :D
