Specifically regarding The Ray. He was depowered in this issue, and I think it might be permanent. As already mentioned when the solicitations came out, he's not on anymore of the covers (there is that blacked out guy on #8 though).
Do people think that the new Ray is done? Will his spot be filled by Ray Terrill?

Unlikely given that he was originally slated for death before Johns bailed him out in IC.

I wish they would. There's no need for two Rays and Ray Terrill is a more likable character and a legacy character.

Something about issue 5 bothered me. When Miss America said "Happy" Terrill is dead, it shocked me since it was never shown as far as I can recall. During The Ray series, it was shown he was quite alive and young on top of that since the light entity kept him young throughout.
So did I miss something along the way?

Thing I realized tonight:
This series is VERY popular. VERY popular
4 July 2007 falls on a Wednesday.
Freedom Fighters ongoing launches 4/5 July 2007?

I liked this issue, actually, I've liked the series from the start. I'm really digging the Force of July as recurring bad guys, they really are a good foil for the Freedom Fighters. It seems like they are on the same side, but how they view their respective Americas is what makes the conflict interesting.
I still love how Uncle Sam knows just the right thing to say. That moon toss was awesome, I don't think I've ever seen that before either.
The politics is a little heavy handed, but by making all the bads tied to SHADE, it doesn't seem like the right-wing villainy is quite as rampant as it is in Civil War.

I pray to all that is right and good this will be true.
It's an interesting time here. The OYL mini's that have come out of Infinite Crisis (relatively speaking) are all coming to a close soon. It will be interesting to see which concepts if any will get the green light for an ongoing of some kind. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Uncle Sam and Secret Six.

I dig it. Feels like West Wing meets the spandex set. ;)
That said, you're correct. It's easy to detach the negative qualities from the actual DCU government because it's basically just bad guys who have secretly infiltrated it.

JeffIt's been years since I've read that series, but I thought Happy had become a light entity, unable to be part of the physical world anymore (technically dead, I guess). But it's been a while and my memory is not so good.
I think the depowering of this Ray is temporary, even though I'd rather have Ray Terrill back.

I'm beginning to agree that that MAY be Ray T. blacked out on that cover.

I loved how Father Time challenged the idealistic portrayals of Uncle Sam's America. It really supports the possibility that Father Time is a different Uncle Sam but essentially the same entity.

I'm 95% sure that Blackmasque (or deathmasque, cannot remember which?) killed Happy Terrill and then impersonated him until he himself was finally dealt with by Ray Terrill. That takes the series up to about #25, when I quit reading it because I got out of comics for about 10 years.
