Incredible, just amazing.

I wish they would have shown Venom, but oh well.

And I'm not too sure how I feel about the whole Sandman killed Uncle Ben angle, but I'll forgive it.

Looks very sweet! It appears to be very action-packed and dramatic at the same time! Sandman as Uncle Ben's actual killer is an interesting twist but doesn't it negate Spidey's guilt over letting the burglar go? Either way, 6 months to go...

I love that this is just an unabashed comic book movie. No "bringing it closer to reality" or the like. Its guys with superhuman strength fighting guys made out of sand. SAND!

I really dont think anyone but Raimi could pull off that mix of action, suspense, and balls out suspension of disbelief. Peter getting punched out of the money truck is such a Raimi/comic book moment, from Sandman's windup to Spidey flying out of the back.

Finally, a Spiderman with not only heart, but balls too (even though he gets em from the suit).

I like my Spiderman like I like my coffee: Black and angry.

What crack are you smoking because I want some. Do you take it through the nose or by the arm? The trailer was horrible, there was nothing but big splashes of action scenes. And where the hell is Venom? it will make no sense to hide it from audiences because if he just going to show up at near the end to battle Spidey and ends in the last 20 minutes then that is no way to serve Venom as a character on screen.

Tobey Raimi and even Dunst all started to say they left things open and 4 is possible "if there is more to say, if the script is good" and if they get paid a ton of money. The movies make it so why not?

and if not, they will recast either Tobey or Dunst anyway. when tobey was playing games, he admits he almost got replaced (by Gyllenhal) in the second one. He wanted more money and his back was hurting from seabiscuit and he was playing games.

he ws dating the daughter of an executive at a different movie studio. at dinner the father basically said "Are you out of your mind?" and he woke up and jumped back on board.

Good point. It may negate the guilt over letting the burglar go, but it does not negate the Power/Responsibility thing. Either way, I hope that the Sandman killing Uncle Ben isn't the case and that it's just police error or something.

Everyone should relax on the Sandman/Uncle Ben scenario.

At least for now.

It is said that the Sandman killing uncle ben scenario is explained like so.....

The bank robber that killed ben supposedly worked for Marko/sandman and was supposed to bring him the money. Therefore while he wasn't directly involved in Ben's murder if he hadn't have sent his henchman to rob the bank then it would never have happened.

Kinda like in "The Crow" where Top Dollar explained to Draven that while his crew actually killed Eric and Shelley they wouldn't have done so without his orders.

Hobowatcher

Sandman killed Uncle? How predictable.

I actually liked the first two, but I hate Venom. Quite possibly everything that is wrong of 90s marvel villians rolled into him.

It was incredibly boring. Nothing but cheap looking action flashes and stock sound bites added to the cliched fondue.

I think I'll pass.

Wake me when The Dark Knight comes out.

PS. People don't mind Parker's emo hair, but openly mock Kent's? What's up with that?

Very nice, but I don't think I like the whole "Sandmand killed Uncle Ben" angle. It was more interesting, like Batman, to have the killer escape his grasp or be a low-time hood, not a big-time villain. And did I hear James Cromwell's voice in there? He always adds such...distinction to a film, I think. Even Babe or I, Robot, as odd as that may sound.

EDIT: Oh, and about Venom. I think they should have Brock become Venom right before the end credits. That'd be sweet. There's something else I kinda noticed too. Are they trying to make it seem like the symbiote is affecting his personality? I don't remember how it exactly went down in the comics but I don't recall personality alteration a big part of the symbiote.

Well, lesse...

How about more info on what role Gwen Stacy has? Or what about the triangle between Pete, MJ, and her? Or, hell, just an intro of any kind for Gwen. As much hype as their seemd to be around her, she was barely in the trailer. What about Brock?

While I remain excited, I am a little concerned that this movie is trying to do too much at once. A trailer made up almost completely of action shots does little to show there is an actual story here.

BlueLeopard
11-10-2006, 01:17 AM
Can't wait. However, I had heard somewhere that Harry wasn't going to go Goblin in this one (setting it up for the fourth). I guess that's not true.

So now we've got Pete, MJ, Sandman, Venom, Harry as the Green Goblin and a rumor about Bruce Campbell in a brief stint as Mysterio. Sounds like a pretty full cast. Add one more villan to the fact that Doc Conners has been running around the first two movies -- could a Sinister Six be far behind?

In the comics, symbiote was basically feeding off Spidey like a parasite, and when he was asleep, it would take him over and web-sling around the neighborhood. Then it would flow off of him shortly before he' wake up. Leaving him tired. That was it.

It affecting his personality didn't become an issue up until the 90's animated series where Parker became a little more belligerent towards those he knew, and downright brutal to his foes. Also not introduced till the cartoon was the power boost thats in the flick.

Not exactly. IIRC, Peter felt something wasn't quite right but he didn't make the connection. He didn't take the costume off until Reed Richards told him it was a living, parasitic symbiote feeding on him.

I liked it. Would've liked to have seen Venom, and the Spidey theme at the beginning sounded odd because of the way they shortened it, but I really liked it. Pretty cool. Can't wait to see it. Six months seems too long.

I can't see why anyone who likes comics could dislike the Spider-Man movies. The first was great, but the second film was a Spider-Man comic brought to life. Hope the third is more of the same.

While I can't wait to see this movie, this trailer didn't do much for me - I thought the older teaser was much more effective in getting the mood they seem to be looking for across. And Sandman being Uncle Ben's "real" killer? WTF? Again, I'll wait to see the movie before I make any real judgements on that, but it seems... well, WTF?

Looks frakking sweet to me. I can understand them not showing venom until near the release (or not at all) as it's one of those things fans will doubtless bitch over. I can also understand that showing venom is a huge spoiler as not everyone seeing the film knows the comicbook history (akin to giving away harry potter film twists just because a lot of people have read the books). The only hitch is i cant see how it wont be spoiled as virtually every magazine tv article will mention the venom story from the symbiote. it's a shame as i would really enjoy the venom revelation in the film (definitely wouldnt see it coming) if i was not a comics reader.

Im not sure on something, are they saying Sandman is the guy who actually SHOT Uncle Ben, or are they saying he was the person who ordered uncle Bens killing? Because Im thinking its more along the lines of the latter.

I'm pretty sure that Sandman gets framed for involvement in Ben Parker's death:

- As a plot against Spider-man.

- To bring into question Spider-man's reasons for doing what he does.

- To play up the theme of this movie: Revenge

- To make Sandman seem more dramatically linked to Spider-man.

Anybody remember how Luthor framed Metallo for killing the Waynes in SUPERMAN/BATMAN?

My money says Harry frames Sandman for killing Ben as a means to entrap Spider-man somehow.

would be cool if the sandman killed ben thing was orchestrated by harry oooooorrrrr.....

unless the symbiote turns spidey hell evil.(would make sense as he has to have a reason to get rid of the symbiote)

Well...shoot.

The Sandman looks awesome. The symbiote looks awesome, save for the lackluster black suit.

The story seems solid, though I'm not yet sold on the whole "what you thought you knew was a LIE!" regarding Uncle Ben.

My biggest concern is that there's just too damned much going on. Will this movie be as top-heavy as another trilogy-ending film featuring the birth of a certain Dark Lord?

I love both the Spidey films, of course, and am one of the few fans who isn't too much of a snob to really love the first film, even with the look of GG.

I should've stuck to my guns and not watched this trailer, which I told myself I wouldn't do.

Ah well...May 4th can't get here soon enough.

And those who didn't like the previous 2 Spidey films obvioulsy are bitter and will never like any superhero movie that comes out. Grow up.

Sandman killed Uncle? How predictable.

I actually liked the first two, but I hate Venom. Quite possibly everything that is wrong of 90s marvel villians rolled into him.

... except that Venom was actually created in the 1980's and was actually a very cool concept in his original form.

Heck, I'm hoping that Venom isn't actually in the movie, but the Symbiote and Eddie Brock are. If I had my way, Venom wouldn't show up until seconds before the credits, much like how Harry discovered the Goblin chamber near the end of #2.

Yeah, I am too. Between Harry and Sandman and the black costume, they have plenty for the film. let part 4 be the Venom story and the end of 3 be the setup for it in the church.

That actually looks kind of dumb. A lot of the dialogue is really dire and its delivery by Maguire is actually surprisingly poor. Not to mention that the cheezy satanicy choir music is really starting to get on my nerves. Plus the effects in a LOT of those scenes look awful--although I'm sure they're just incmplete and will definately look kickass when it comes out--so no worries there. :)

Plus what's with all the lame-o cameos of Church as an obnoxious photographer--who we OBVIOUSLY can now tell is a photographer who finds out Parker is Spider-Man by piecing together this new info and the bit from the last trailer of him looking up at a wall (of photos presumably) saying "Parker" in a dumbstruck epiphany. Way to keep the plot a secret.

But this trailer?

Oh, my frakkin' Lords of Kobol, that looks SWEET! I mean, I've been let down by great trailer/crappy movie before (stares HARD in George Lucas' direction), but I love that Raimi is doing the Venom storyline. Love. IT. This really has a "Wrath of Khan"-feel to it. I hope the actual movie doesn't disappoint me.

I first posted this on page 3 since it seems people either a) don't like me or b) are just too ignorant to read it.

This comes from a VERY respectable source:

A very annoying and repetitious trailer and not very impressive imo.

1. It looks too damn crowded, too many villains gunning for Spidey, and that gives me a Batman Forever vibe.

2. I don't know about you but the Harry Osborn "I hate u Spiderman because you killed my father" thing is old already. Too dragged out.

3. Mary Jane still looks and acts annoying.

4. The Sandman effects look bad, and Spiderman looks very cartoony too. I also think this movie should have been about the Sandman only.

5. I think this will be the weakest of the Spiderman movies. I predict that kids will love it, but adults won't.

Cheers.

If those types of posts were gone, all these boards would be like ghost towns-- sans any animated tumbleweeds bounding by in the cyber-breeze, of course. The boards need whiners as much as non-whiners. Sometimes the whiners say the funniest, silliest and dumbest things. Keep up the whining (you all know who you are)!

Note: If one whines about the whiners, he/she could be considered a whiner. By complaining about the whiners, you are adding another whine to the whine rack.

Embrace the whiners-- they keep the boards going!!!!

Raimi will show Hollywood (ahem Bryan Singer) How a Super-Hero movie should be made. Can't wait for this
I love the X-Men and thought the movies were great....however...The reason the Spider-Man movies are SO much better is that Raimi is a fan. I don't think Singer has any respect for the source material. He has said he's not a fan of comics. And Raimi so obviously loves 'em. Scenes from all three of these movies were lifted directly off of the page...I can not wait for this movie!!!! Please. I don't understand the cheap shots at Singer. You can't praise this latest trailer without putting Singer down? Singer has the right amount of respect for all the source material he has. It is thanks to him that there is a very successful Xmen franchise on film and he successfully revived the Superman franchise on film.

I'll praise Raimi when he succeeds with another superhero franchise. Two years from now Singer will have two successful movies for two different types of comicbook properties(making that four movies that have generated millions of dollars). And I got news for you...he might be doing the 'Wolverine' movie too.

Everyone keeps posting that they are disappointed with no Venom in this trailer. I don't think that Venom is even going to be a big part of this movie. This one is going to be more about Spider-man and the symbiote suit and then Eddy will probably get the symbiote at the very end of the movie to set up for the next one.

They always talked about doing the Spider-Man movies in a set of two trilogies. So you could recast Tobey with (Jake Gyllenhaal) since they look a like anyway. And as far as Mary Jane goes, I think they are introducing Gwen Stacey as a backup for Christen Dunst potentially leaving the franchise.

There's a lot already revealed about what happens in this movie. Yes, we're all anxious to see what Venom will look like, but do you really want to see him this early. It would take away from the shock of seeing Eddie's transformation on screen. Just think about watching Eddie change for the first time . . . I'd rather just wait for it than have it blown.

And Raimi has been quoted as saying he WANTS to do up to a possible 7 Spider-Man films in WIzard. That doesn't mean it will happen. And he also mentioned that the studio would probably replace him with a new director to get a new vision for the series before he could get to do 7 films. Just look at Batman. I do think that's wher the series would start to fail if he is replaced, but at the same time I think that SPider-Man is bigger than McGuire and DUnst. I know most people are against it, but I'd rather they keep Raimi and re-cast Peter and MJ if it comes down to it or if they don't want to return for any reason. It would at the very least keep things a bit fresh, and people would be interested in seeing how the "new" Spidey delivers. But re-cast only once. DOn't end up with the Batman fiasco.

Rest assured, there will be Spidey 4, and most likely it will feature Venom as the main villian or co-villian.

P.S. - I really want to see Venom take a bite out of Sandman like in the comics . . . I know that's probably asking for too much.

Speaking as a NON-Spiderman fan, I will adress these myself.

1. You say it looks to crowded, yet there was only one, perhaps two villains in the trailer.

2. The Harry subplot has only been in 1.1 movie so far and has spanned all of 10 total minutes. It's been a theme everyone's been waiting to see climax.

3. true. i'd still bang her.

4. disagree. the Sandman looks like what living sand would pretty much look like. I think he looks great.

5. I predict that people will CALL this the weakest of the series and it's still 6 months away....and that it will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. By the time the end of trilogies roll around, the honeymoon is over and everyone WANTS to find fault.

Angst from MJ because she's worried about Peter, angst from Brock for whatever reason they give him to hate Sidey, angst from Harry because "OH NOES, YOU KILLED MY FATHER, YOU DIRTY RAT", angst from Peter, of course, just because he is a complete wuss-bag who is incapable of growing a pair, and we'll prolly get some angst from Sandman, cause you know, why not? Maybe give him a wife who dies and let him go insane, because we can't have a bad guy whose just plain old EVIL. Wait, they did that with Doc Ock? We'', let's give him a sick sister or something and that's why he's turning to crime. Ten bucks say he get his powers from an Oscorp accident.

25% will be some very cool action. Hey, I can't complain. Hell, story or characterization shouldn't matter to me at all as long as Spidey punches some people at least a few times, right. I'll bet good money we've seen sections from the three(tops) big fight scenes in this movie.

15% of this movie will be monologues. Close-ups on MJ, Aunt May, the ghost of Uncle Ben, Peter, and whoever else while sad music plays softly in the background. Gotta bring it "home", you know?

Alright, obviously, I don't really know how this movie will play out. Hell, this could be the best superhero movie evar! I just doubt it. And would why that really be saying anyway? That this movie was better than X-men 2? Haw!

And half of you guys eat the garbage up. Let me tell you felllows, the punk with the teary eyes crying because no one likes him and he can't get any tail is not Spider-Man. That's you on your myspace page.

And Marvel does not care, either. As long as they make money, Spider-Man could be a midget transvestite and they'd see the movie was the best thing ever.

Yep, I'm bout done. I'm not sorry for the rant, either. I'm sorry that a fan can't give his opinon if it isn't positive without everyone giving him crap.

I just kinda expect more from the guy who made the Evil Dead series, you know?

Let me guess, you're one of those guys that thought that Batman and Robin was the best comic movie ever weren't you?

Little hint, Spider-man's always been emo. It's a big part of what makes the character so damn interesting and the best superhero character out there. If he were just bad ass and kick ass and so on, he'd be Superman and bore me to sleep.

Peter Parker without his emotions, without deeper meanings even for his villains just wouldn't be Spider-man. .

Harry's costume and the flying board look like crap. Not sure about the Sandman/Uncle Ben connection, either.

Otherwise, it looks like a lot of fun, which is what these things are supposed to be. Looking forward to seeing it.

It was a little underwhelming. I wish Peter wasn't such a tool in the movies.

Underwhelming? its AMAZING!!!! SIX MONTHS TO GO!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fights! The Web Swingin! The Goblin! The Sandmans origin! Spidey's primal scream! Aunt May! Mary Jane! The Costume! Spidey drunk on power and vengeance! The Spidey movies just keep getting better!!!

This trailer made my day! Just excellent. Some of you are WAY to jaded. This movie is gonna rock, and I'm glad they didn't show Venom. Gotta have some surprises to look forward to.

Civil War? Hell, I'm with this dude! :)

Sure, Peter has always been neurotic and self-introspective, I love that about the character, but he has never been a giant wussy.

I don't want Spider-Man without emotons, like you said, that wouldn't be Spider-Man. But niether is Spider-Man with just one emotion.

I want a Spidey who cracks wise and has fun and will feel down occasionally, but won't wallow in it forever. The Spider-Man I dig will happily relive his frustrations from life upside the head of a bad guy, miss his date with the pretty girl he's been after for months because of said bad guy, but at least he's got extra time to study, which is just as important. I like a Peter that'll win some and lose some, feel bad for a time, but won't ever give up just because some people don't like him.

Hell, I love when Spidey loses and then comes back and saves the day, JJJ writes and editorial about how Spidey must have been behind it, but at least Peter saved the day and that's what matters.

Spidey's great because he tries to make the best of what he's got and he'll always keep fighting. Peter Parker does not sit in the corner and cry.

Also, here's the deeper meaning behind spidey's villains. They've got power and they use them irresponsibly. That there is the whole shebang. Making Doc Ock temperoraily insane or whatever cheapned him as a character. He's a guy who fell into powers and has to decide how to use them, just like Peter. Great power, great responisbilty; remember?

Spider-Man's a fun character and great too, because there is alot to him; but not when he's a super self-pitying crumb, that's just lame.

Didn't Peter just throw a pumpkin bomb at Harry's face? I don't find that being a crybaby.

He does make little quips but they go unnoticed. Movie Spidey has a mute button, that and having him sit around making quips would take up too much time. And from what I can gather from the Spider-man movie franchise...Pete's still taking what he's got and running with it. And I'm pretty sure Pete has missed a date from dealing with the bad guys. It's how Harry got to put the moves on MJ.

Really though, aside from the quips, I think movie Spidey pretty much fits your criteria.

Anyway, about the trailer. The effects seemed very unfinished, lacking that final coat of polish, so they look a lot more CG than they should. I do like some of the additional effects they added, like when Pete was taking off the symbiote, it looks like he's taking off the symbiote and not just tearing his suit. I'd say they still have time to finish polishing the visuals, 'cuz those are clearly incomplete, imo.

Two things after looking at the screen caps at CBR:

-Pete pushing Sandman's face against the train is great!
-Whoever made the remark about a tendril around Pete's neck was right. Looks like Venom's got him on the ropes.

yeah pretty good...

Topher should put Maguire through a wall though...

Maguire and Dunst will still annoy me, but the rest of the cast looks first rate... Wouldnt have minded a sneaky peek at Venom or Gwen...

But looks like the issues this time around will be vengeance, addiction and rage...

Interesting, I hope that with all these villains there isn't too many cooks in the pot.

I have to wonder to what extent Venom is even in it...my guess...in a cliffhanger Eddie Brock is just there to lead to SM 4...

I mean aren't the Sandman and Harry as The Goblin enough for one movie?

I've said my bit. I've vented and there ain't no reason to keep going over it. Hell, this movie is sure to kick ass at least the first time watching it. If I can just get past all the monologues.

The black suit should look AT LEAST ten times cooler, though.

johnchrist

Movie looks good but I still think the suit need the contrasting whites of the spider and eyes (like it did in the comic) to really bring it out, but that's just me.

I was always the guy who never saw the "obvious CG" that people complained about in the previous films....but man this looks bad so far!

Still, 6 months to polish things up so I'm not too worried.

Looks fun.

Don't like the Black Suit though. They recreated the red/blue perfectly, why not this one. Also don't like the Sandman killer biz.

I have to agree with you there. That Green Goblin costume is tres' hideous. During the movie, I shall endeavor to ignore Kirsten Dunst's MJ (god, she wore out my last nerve in #2--Peter either doesn't know he can do better, or he doesn't want to do better). Maybe Sandman or GG or special guest villain Heather Locklear will off her in this one.

This doesn't make sense and it's reaching.

Ex-Villian
11-11-2006, 04:51 PM
I like the first two Spideys but they had a formula. I'm assuming this one, while having it's own suprises, won't deviate too far from that formula. Cath up with the returning chracters, introduce the villian, give the villian's origin, the first fight, story progression, twist or major plot development, second fight, figure out what to do next, last fight, conclude and st up next part. The main difference I think will be that Sandman will have the first two fights, and Harry will have the last. I could be wrong though, cuz Peter has to get rid of that suit at some point, and Eddie has to get it. Peter will probably loose it before the last fight, and Eddie will probably get it in the final scene.

I wouldnt even be surprised if we dont actually see Venom so they can save him for Spidey 4, although I doubt Raimi would let us down that bad. I think we'll see Eddie bonding with the symbiote in a good transformation scene, and maybe have a 5 second look at best of Venom. Enough for them to make a toy of him and sell it fo merchandising.

And Gwen was in the trailor for whoever it was that missed her. She was in the first trailer, too, when they showed a close up of Peter's ugly horrible haircut. They should digitize that thing.

Frigging awesome trailer, I loved how they had the church bell, the comic geek in me was orgasming over that. I think this just may top my choice for greatest superhero movie ever x2. I can also see how they might be saving venor for part 4, i could totally live with that. May cannot come quick enough.

What do I think?
I think that after watching the trailer 7 times, even the Marvel-bashers can't say much against this movie. Heh.
And even if they still do it ( like from what i've seen on the previous posts ), then it's their right to do so, of course.
It's also their right to resume clicking the "play" button on their DVD remote to watch George Clooney in action with his "Bat-nipples" again. Heh.

Dude...settle down...read my post again. I said I liked the X-Men movies. In fact I think Singer is a brilliant director. The Usual Suspects is great flick! I basically said Raimi is a fan of comics and I really don't see how that is a put down for Singer. I think maybe you're bitter because you were expecting more from Superman?

Hey, don't bother too much. It's obvious that the guy loves Superman Returns so much and everyone and everything that's associated with it that he's made himself blind to really top-notch, quality comic-movies. I expected a lot from Superman Returns as well but when i got to see it, well, "dissapointed" would be a nicer way to put it. But to each his own, of course.
If Superman Returns is his favorite movie this year ( or judging from his posts, maybe EVER ) then it's absolutely his choice.
And if he really wants to say that Superman Returns is better than Spidey / Spidey 2 then all i can say is..Uhmmm, all i can say is..Well, i really can't say anything but..BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!...Heh..Heh-heh-heh..I love variety.
