Green Lantern Corps #5

Story Title: The Hunt

Reviewer: Batman_Wolverine

Having decided to drop this series from my pull list, I only went in for this issue for one single reason. It’s not Soranik Natu and the internal (and in this issue, external) conflict she faces for her being a Green Lantern, it’s not even Mogo and yet another showing of his being the de facto ‘crisis councilor’ of the GLs, heck, its not even Vath and Isamot and their ‘grumpy old men’ routine. None of them, though interesting enough at their place could make for the one thing that drove me away from this title and now brought me back for this issue. The single sole reason for my going in for this issue was…Guy Gardner’s being put in his place.

An insensitive blowhard (at his highest/best) it is a treat seeing Bowl-cut Gardner not only reprimanded by his senior (Salaak) but also get made fun of by the juniors (TWO of them). Sweetening that deal is the art, with as with the previous issue is leagues above that of the first three.

Conclusion: This issue reminded me of the JLI/JLE days, bringing back fond memories of the memorable ‘One Punch Takedown’ (courtesy of Batman). I like this series and if there were more Garden snipping moments like this, I could definitely start getting it on a regular basis.

RATING: 8/10

Wasn't Gardener doing Superboy Guard duty for a month enough for you in GL?

Nope...because it only a matter of time before he screws up. On the bright side, with Prime there is a good chance that he might be in for another PUNCH. :p

Question. Do the Oans not believe in capital punishment anymore? Cause I know they tried to execute Sinestro that one time. (This turned out to be a bad plan because of some ancient pact about not killing any of Sinestro's race.) I ask because, if they haven't had a change of policy on this, why is the planet-rearranging time-punching whole-bunch-of-GLs-killing maniac who needs dozens of GLs devoted to guarding him still alive? If ever there was a situation where it'd be easier just to fry the guy. . . Maybe when the Corps was first reconstituted Kyle and company insisted on a strict don't kill policy.

Check out the January solicts for GLC. "Guy wrangles with being ordrered to kill for the Guardians." So I guess the Capital Punishment concept is back. They may not be killing Prime because they may not be able to. Although, being powerless under a mini red sun probably leaves him rather mortal. Then again, Guy's first "official" job as a GL was to Kill all of Qward and anyone who got in his way during the MILLENIUM crossover, so I don't know what he's "wrangling" with. I guess all those hits in the head, and 20 years of character growth (I don't care BW says, heck his faves are Batman and Wolverine....how cliche:rolleyes: :p ....Guy Gardner is a rather interesting and damn cool character) have mellowed Guy. His love and subsequent loss of Ice. The loss of most of his JLI teammates. The loss of his ring, gaining of wierd (and stupid) Warrior powers, the Loss of the Corps, the regaining of the Corps and his ring, the loss of his wierd (and stupid) Warrior powers. Heck he even initaited the JLI reunion to investigate Beetle's death back in OMAC PROJECT. He's earned his moment to shine.
