Batman is the epitome of humanity.
Superman is an alien wanting to be human.
Batman will never have superpowers.
Superman does.
Batman doesn't let his weaknesses constrain his options.
Superman defines himself by his powers and weaknesses.
Superman is a god wanting to be human.
Batman is a man wanting to be a god.
The question is...which is willing to go the distance to get what they want?

1) Alien/"god" wants to be human what's wrong w/ humanity?
2) Superpowers! and he still wants to be like us!
3)defines himself by the very things that defines humans
1-Why is he the epitome of humanity? He's rich, he knows karate, his parents are killed tragically when he was a child...so I ask how many people do you know that have been tramitized by the murder of there parents as a child, and than get a nice mansion to live in after.
2-why is it good that he aspires to be like super man?

Batman is driven by vengeance.
Superman is driven by just doing what is right.
That pretty much says it all for me.

Batman does what he does without any want or need of the public fawning over him.
One person turns away from him and Supes runs to the fortress or Lois (or both) and is in the dumps for days.
Doing it by taking it as one's *duty* against *looking for fame*? Even the so-called god isn't perfect.

If anything, he wants the public to trust him so they know his intentions are good.

I've stated this point before (in other words)....
Batman fights for JUSTICE...and is not about to back away from breaking any LAWS in doing so.
Superman stops at the LAW...even if it lets JUSTICE slip away sometimes.

Because he trained himself to be better mentally and physically. He is peak in mind and body.
2-why is it good that he aspires to be like super man?
to be able to do things to help others.

If you read old Supes issues, in them you will see that when Luthor put in his nomination for the Presidency, Bats came to Clark (and Lois) with the offer to stop him.
Even though Supes knew that Bats was in the right and that nothing good would come out of Luthor becoming the President (which it didn't), he didn't say yes, because of the LAW. He had faith in the American people to do the right thing (paraphrased from the comic)...and we all know how the people did that *right* thing (both in the comic and in real life).
Bats accepted his decision and when Luthor was elected and Supes came to him (during a Christmas special, I think), Bats reminded him of his words and how things had turned out...but also said that when the time came they (both him and Supes) would take Luthor down.
Supes stopped at the LAW for doing the right thing but that wasn't JUSTICE. That didn't come till much later (in the first arc of the Superman-Batman series)

In that specific example, Superman was right. Luthor was elected by the people to be the President. What right does Superman have to determine politics? That would make Superman some sort of insane dictator, ruling over the country.
Batman clearly didn't even consider that, being so caught up in his own selfish war.

Good question. Im gonna lean towards Superman. He went without his powers for over a year and still managed to succeed in everything else. Batman took a year off and took a cruise with his "sons"

An' once again (with the double quotes) the "sexual" implication. I think you missed when Bruce legal adopted Dick as his SON (and not just ward).
Batman went on a 'cruise' but came back cleaned off 'super-villain' crime in Gotham. While Clark, when not peering at Lois's thongs (and maybe even trying them out), he was fingering the *signal watch*.
On either side, low blows are a plenty.

True Batman fans can write theses about the inner depths of "their" character. The Machiavellian brilliance, the tortured ego, the freudian response of hiding within one-self and regressing back to the age of 5 when things were simpler, the black & white philosophical debates that in reality are truly far more complex than initially thought. Pages and pages, lovingly composed to the muse of the bat god....the first goth and greatest mind that ever lived........
Which is why I'm going with Superman. Bat-freaks need to get a grip.

How anyone could think this fight lasts longer than 3 seconds has always been entirely beyond me.
The part of the argument that has always bothered me is the "Batman is the pinnacle of humanity" approach. He's clearly a superhuman in some respect. It would take a lifetime of dedicated work to become the world's best detective or the world's best martial artist, or the world's most cunning inventor. All of this even relies upon the fact that he must have ahd the single most perfect set of genes of all time. I mean, all credit to his fans, as he's a good character, but he's far more than a human could ever aspire to.

Which is a good argument if you ignore hundreds of years of advances in chemistry, physics, athletic training, electrical engineering, philosophy, forensic science, etc.

Not really, if you consider how much time we devote to doing things that are frivolous such as watching the latest episode of Survivor, talking on a comics message board or buying into the latest craze.
