I was wondering what people thought of the latest issue of GL Corp #4? I got the first three issues, but I have dropped it after the first arc. It seemed like it was going in some what of a comical direction. Still, I keep wrestling with the idea that this is a mistake. I love Green Lantern, but I didn't find the Corp nearly as good. For those of you that got it, how was it and do you see yourselves continuing to pull this series?
Thanks,

In my opinion, it's great. It's not going in a JLI-type comedic direction, if that's what you're thinking. Pretty heavy stuff, but with Guy involved, you're always gonna get some smug tongue-in-cheekness, which is just another thing to love about Guy. The new characters they're focusing on (Natu, Isamot, um, Angry Dude) are very interesting and the art is great. Last issue was the start of new arc, come back to the Corps, brother!

I really like it, but I sincerely hope they don't go in an overly-comedic direction. I love the interaction between all the Corps members, especially Kilowog and Salaak (I can't help but like that red-tape bureaucratic bastard:D).

I like the bk,
But I did drop the it with # 6, and because Pat Gleason is back on the art, I've started it back up, with that very issue, I'm new to GLC, and I quite like it, so long as the art is decent, I'll stick with it..........

Why drop a book if it becomes a tad funny? What's wrong with a few snarky, tounge-in-cheek issues every now and again? What's wrong with some levity after a serious arc? I thought people wanted funny funny books. Will anyone make up their mind?
I personally like the way this was played out. Unlike JLI, they didn't sacrifice the character for the gag. The gag comes about because of the character. Excellent issue.

Gibbons handles three very different storylines under the guise of a Gardner solo story in #4. He manages to successful build decent climaxes in all three, without ever becoming confusing or tripping up himself. While I love Gleason (pretty much the first reason I picked up the series), Gibbons does decent artwise as well. I'd definately recommend picking GLC up again, especially if you like the junk that is/was Green Lantern (I dropped it early on for good reasons, but I've heard it's gotten better since Johns started putting some effort in).
The best part of GLC, to me, is that it really feels like they're Jedi Knights -- policing the globe in strange alien locales, relying on their combination of lightsaber/force powers in the ring. It's a solid comic that doesn't fall into the trappings of DC's current string of "hype events." It's one of the few DC titles that I still keep on my list.

I think what is really great about GLC is that they can do the serious arcs, as they did with the very first storyline, then they can go with the comedy angle on the next one, as they are doing right now. This gives the book a dynamic that hardly any other has! The scale that the Corps covers is already so huge, they have to break it up! The does not have to be "Hal Jordan serious" all the time. Nor does it want to be! And that's the beautiful thing about this book!

I bought it on recommendations. Its a great book. It has the perfect amount of humor, action, violence, and just about everything else.
I normally hate GL books so for me it had to be good. I'm glad I started reading it.

I thought it was merely OK and dropped it. I don't get where the whole "humour" angle is coming from though. The only Lantern book I get now is Ion.

I love Green Lantern, but I didn't find the Corp nearly as good.Well, they're different looks at the same concept:
GLC = space cop book, Law & Order with power rings
GL = superhero / sci fi book
As a result of that, there are big difference in tone and story direction. Plus, the main GL title is by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, and you get all the classic toys - Hal, his cast and all his villains - Sinestro, Manhunters, Shark, and now Cyborg Superman.
Still, GLC is by a very good team - Gibbons and Gleason make a great rotating art duo.
For those of you that got it, how was it and do you see yourselves continuing to pull this series?I'm a major Green Lantern fan, so...yeah. I'm getting GL, GLC and Ion - and liking all of them at this point.

It's a Guy Gardner monthly book so yeah, it stays on my list.
Not to mention the other great features of the title that I've been enjoying. Props to Dave Gibbons for using old school characters I love like Kilowog and Salaak as well as props for creating new, compelling characters like Natu. And all of this is not even taking into account the phenomenal art by Patrick Gleason. Now if they'd just get that Ion crap sorted out and bring Kyle back, this book would be perfect. ;) :)

I think the book is great. There's some humor but also plenty of action and drama. My only porblem with it is in the last issue, Guy's running around in Capris. Kind of blows his tuff guy image.

I only find the book "okay." I'll pick it up if Kyle shows up.

I really liked this issue, the touch of humour really made it.

I was standing in the comic shop, waiting today, when I see Green Lantern Corps #4. I read the Recharge trade last month, and the JLI trade (eBay since it was out of print) last week, so I was feeling a Gardener vibe. I thought the cover was funny, and I remeber Relentless from the Alan Moore trade.
I have to say I liked the issue. I think next week I might look into back issues.
So much to say so little.
