It seems recently that the DCU is starting to incorporate a lot of Kingdom Come characters... Batman's son is back (ok so he wasn't created for KC, but that's the only place he's prominatly seen), Teen Titans is featuring a new Zatara, and Plastic Man's son Offspring, and I think somebody said Power Boy was a KC character, or I might be mistaken on that), and now Birds of Prey has the female Judomaster (on the covers at least). Oh and Arsenal... the cover of the new JLA has him in his KC "Red Arrow" outfit...
Do you think there's some greater scheme going on here, or are writers just realising that this is a good source of new characters without needing to create even more? What do you think?

The writers have been asked this at conventions but they've said they're not moving towards the "Kingdom Come" future, but it sure does look like it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see..

It's not just OYL. Jakeem Thunder, Atom-Smasher's costume & ID, and the Blue Beetle Armor all showed up in KC before being incorporated in the mainstream DCU.

I don't remember PowerBoy in Kingdom Come, but the name was first used back in the 60s (http://www.comic-covers.com/DC/DCSu-Z/Superboy/originalimages/SBOY052.JPG). Interesting origin (http://www.dcuguide.com/who.php?name=powerboy), somewhat similar to PowerGirl's post-COIE ....

I just think it's interesting that every major hero now has:
1) At least One Teen Sidekick Emulation
2) An Opposite Bizzaro-esque Reflection
3) A possible legacy (read : older) character.
Makes you wonder what the next major event will be, or if they're compensating for a lack of an Earth-3 and an Earth-Teen.

The Judomaster is Manhunter. Batmans kid isn't Ibn Al Xuffash (god that's horrible spelling). Powerboy wasn't in KC. Aqualad has yet to become the new aquaman. Robin hasn't changed to "red robin" batmans not wearing his bodyarmor/suit. I wonder if CM3 and mary marvel are going to become King and Queen marvel/shazam.

What do you mean Judomaster is Manhunter? They appear as two seperate people on the covers... of issues not yet released, so we don't know what's in them (unless you know something we don't?)
And nobody ever said that everything in KC is happening in the DCU, just some of it...

I would love for them to bring in some KC villains like Von Bach...

Judomaster is not Manhunter.

I'm personally not to fond of that first one in particular. I mean Little Barda? Really.

Theres a lot of stuff thats contradicted KC.
About 1998-2000 the policy was, to the best of my knowledge, that KC was the future.
Now I think its just a source of ideas.

Yeah, that is kinda high on the lame scale.

Ted Kord's dead, so obviously it's not the true future, but things are looking sort of like it.

IMHO, KC was an important possible/alternate future that became more important with the Kingdom event and Hypertime (oh how I miss it :( :p). But Hypertime (excellent idea) itself showed KC was one of many possibilities feeding the main timeline/reality. Just that. The closest to an official future the DCU has ever had is the Legion's. At least post-COIE. And even that has always been kept one millenium ahead so it doesn't depend on what happens in the present DCU and viceversa, keeping contacts to a minimum.
Now I think its just a source of ideas.
The way I see it (and always have) every possible future timeline/story is a source of ideas and elements. KC, the Legion, Booster's, Zoom, etc. And it's logical that the present has elements in common with the future even if they're only possible/alternate futures. Besides, why waste story elements and characters when you can use them to cement even further the idea of one cohesive universe of stories?

I think Kingdom Come just had so many great ideas that writers want to start incorporating some of it into their books. I wouldn't read into it anymore than that.

Alex Ross has a talent for design and current DC editors/creators are taking advantage of stuff he's come up with. That's it. Why does it have to mean they're locked in to one particular distopian future?

What this guy said. Ross's designs in KC were pretty awesome, so I understand the desire to actually use them in the DCU. Hopefully, we'll see Nightstar before long! :)
(and no, that bad Titans appearance doesn't count, nor does the Kingdom appearance - she does not have orange skin, dammit! :p )
And Bubbakanoosh is right - time for some freakin' Von Bach!!!

I understand points 1 and 2, but I don't understand what you mean by the third. Is that a reference to Jay Garrick and Alan Scott? Who would be the legacy that Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are carrying on? Not the Earth-2 counterparts, I'm sure...
