Biased answer wanted - Should I get the Powers Hardcover?

I've got the big 3-0 birthday coming up this weekend, and I'm sure I'll get book store gift cards. Love the oversized hardcover format, and it seems like I would like Powers (I like the concept and art, and I've liked everything Bendis I've read). And 400+ pages is great value. I haven't read a lot of the daily, because I've had my eye on the trades, but the hardcover is very appealing.

I realize posting here will get me a mildly biased answer (which I suppose I'm kind of looking for!), but I should get the hardcover, shouldn't I?

as a guywho as only read maybe 4 Powers issues, the HC is a great deal so no matter what, go for it.

If you don't enjoy you can always sell it on ebay or send it to me for free :D

Also HC #2 is out in December.

Powers is good. The hardcover is a great deal; definately better than the trades. I'd say go for it.

Wow, talk about biased. I'm convinced!

I did the same thing with the Alias Omnibus, buying it strictly on word of mouth (and the fact that my wife was actually cool with spending $100 on a book!) and I'm definitely glad I did. One of the best and most interesting stories I've ever read in any medium.

I've enjoyed his stuff, even NA.

Powers was never a book I picked up because my LCS was over charging on IMAGE do to the no listing of CDN cover price. but the few issues I have are good. Esp the Warren Ellis issue. Hilarious! its #10 but I don't know which volume though.

I just ran a quick query on my comic database, and I apparently own 171 books written by BMB. Out of 1600, that makes him #1 in my collection!

I find I'm more likely to try things in the hardcover format, because I love reading them like that, and because the Chapters website sells them for a ridiculously low $20-25 CDN.

I buy most of my HC from Chapters.ca too! Grab the Earth X trade from them, its insanely good.

I need to ge the rest of USM. I have the first HC, got it for 24 bucks. I got the first 24 issues.. but I prefer HC.

It's funny, I was avoiding the Ultimate line, just not wanting to get into a whole other universe. Then I was at the Toronto con in summer 2005, and I picked up Ultimate Spidey 1-3 HC for $60. And I was hooked. Been adding everything out there, and looking to get Ultimate FF2 and UXM6 as well this birthday season. In hardcover, it's a great line. Hoping they collect Ellis' Ultimate Galactus trilogy soon.

UFF2 was alright.. can't wait for Vol 3 though. Millar's second run on the book was awesome.

Yeah. That's one thing I like: the oversized ones look better, and their retail price point is better. And Chapters knocks em down nicely.

UFF2 doesn't excite me that much, but I'm really looking forward to #3. I loved Marvel Zombies, and want to see where it actually came from!

I'm thinking my buy next week might be UXM, Walking Dead, Powers and either invincible or UFF.

Just the oversized. I'm not big on the Premiere size, since I'd rather just save a couple bucks and wait for the paperback. But the oversize, that's worth shelling out for!

I get both. and trade. some series like Exiles, FNSM and New Excalibur are only out in trades, and I think some series might not get released inthe oversized HC.

So I get 'em all. but the oversized look so damn nice!

I know. I wish Marvel would be more upfront about their trade publishing plans. I'd like to know early on what's going to hardcover, cuz I won't buy the soft or premier if I think it might happen, and then I may just end up not buying it at all if it goes too long and there's no hardcover.

I was miffed that FNSM didn't get a HC.. maybe later now it will. Now, I want to know about JMS run after The Other? Will there be a huge HC collecting the issues?

If BEndis ever checks back in here, will there be a big HC collection for New Avengers?? That series would kick ass in a oversized HC.

I'm not surprised about FNSM. Aside from the Ultimate line, the hardcovers seem to be going more for events (Zombies) and highlights (Morrison's X-Men run) and not just regular series. My guess is that would preclude New Avengers, but you never know!

Correct on both counts. Secret War was good, but a little short, but I got it for $10 on eBay. The Avengers is pretty good, though I have to admit, I'm in the "enjoys New Avengers more" camp. Good stories and good art, but it just didn't grab me.

I know.. I'd love to get some of the older stuff but alot of it was just fluff in the end. Love to get Infinity War and Infinity Gauntlet, but geez... 40 bucks each for trade! And truely neither were that great.

Check out Chapters website. Their HC prices are over 50% off because they start with the US prices. Like Earth X, which is ordinarily $80 (I think). I just paid $35 for it.

I found Milligans and Allred's X-Force at the LCS this morning! I never knew they released that in HC!!! Awesome!!
