<i>Press Release</i>
<blockquote>Comic book studio Dabel Brothers Productions, LLC has joined forces with leading publisher Marvel Comics to adapt some of the most popular fantasy, science fiction and horror novels into comic books and graphic novels. Through the partnership, Marvel has signed on as the exclusive publisher for Dabel Brothers Productions, obtaining the marketing, print and distribution rights. The Dabel Brothers will continue to operate as an independent entity working with science-fiction, fantasy and horror authors on story development.
Marvel and The Dabel Brothers look to broaden their audience and the graphic fiction category by expanding literary favorites from a stable of bestselling authors into high quality comic books and graphic novels. While maintaining the integrity of the original stories, the medium hopes to attract new readers as well as loyal fans of the literary works with great storytelling and eye-catching artwork.
The first new project to be released under the agreement features New York Times bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton. Based on Hamilton’s most famous creation, Anita Blake, Marvel and The Dabel Brothers will release a thrilling new comic book series called Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter in Guilty Pleasures in October 2006. The series which features remarkable artwork by Brett Booth (Heroes Reborn: Fantastic Four) is a story of fantasy, romance and horror centering on an alternate reality where the U.S. government has declared the undead as legal beings. While attempting to coexist with humans, the vampires, zombies and werewolves at times still like to wreck havoc and that’s when Anita Blake must step in and protect the world.
Additionally, in the coming months Marvel and The Dabel Brothers will be bringing to comic book form George R. R. Martin's Hedge Knight series, Orson Scott Card's Red Prophet, and Raymond E. Feist's Magician: Apprentice (part one of the Riftwar saga).
“Dabel Brothers Productions has always been extremely devoted to producing a high quality product,” said Ernst Dabel, CEO of Dabel Brothers Productions, LLC. “Our mission has been to offer fantasy and science fiction fans the very best visual translation of their favorite books without skimping or cutting corners and we feel our new partnership with Marvel will only continue to improve our ability to put out the best literary adaptations in the industry.”
Dan Buckley, President and Publisher of Marvel Entertainment, Publishing added, “We are thrilled to be teaming up with The Dabel Brothers. Thanks to our new partnership, we can continue to bring the world of comics to a larger audience, as well as provide exposure to a truly great series and characters like Anita Blake.”

All those Anita Blake newcomers to the comic book industry need to prepare themselves.
Release Dates mean absolutely nothing in this business. It's a vague guideline, nothing more.

so i'm curious, will these be 'branded' Marvel books, under their own imprint or under some kind of new imprint ~ i mean from what i hear this Anita Blake thing sounds pretty MAX to me, and i can't iamgine that comign out with a Marvel banner on it...
Nice to see Brett Booth working, i always dug his wildstorm art ~ his Spidey/Backlash crossover , while haveing a story as dumb as a rock (so dumb i'm pretty sure i onlypicked up the first one), was VERY pretty to look at. i'd say he drew the best venom this side of McFarlane.

1 - Here´s hoping that Marvel and DBPro manage to release a "The Sworn Sword" comic!
2 - Perhaps this could be just the thing to get GRRM to write a comic for Marvel...
3 - Who's doing the covers (regular and variant) for The Hedge Knight HC?

I´ll be sure to check out these boards as well as GRRM´s site for any news regarding ASOIAF.
Any chance of seeing you guys nabbing the rights to Terry Pratchett's wonderful Discworld?

Derek, I'd just like to say that I am excited for you guys and the added exposure this should bring to your incredible (and growing) line of books. Hands down your company produces the finest books, in my opinion, on the market. I was wondering if there would be any changes to the production quality of the books and the price? As it stands, you print on heavy paper with cardstock covers, and the price per issue reflects this. I understand quality like that comes at a price, and I'm not actually complaining. I'm just curious if anything will change and thus bring the price more inline with the average comic on the market.
I'd still really like to see an adaption of the books of The Song of Fire and Ice so far (and Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen, but that's way out there in left field). Or at least of key chapters within Martin's books that would play well in comic form.

RE: The Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series
As one of the members on the LKH and DabelBrother forum boards, I can honestly say that this is seems like it is going to be a GREAT experience! Most of the readers that post on these boards seem very excited. We all hope to continue to see DB's incrediable adaptation and hope that it will only grow with the help of Marvel. Derek and the DB staff have been more than helpful in reassuring everyone that nothing in the quality will change. In fact, after they posted several of the preview pages, they watched the forum boards for everyone's responses and critics and took them into consideration and fixed a few of the SMALL errors that the LKHer's picked up on. I have a feeling that we won't be missing that from the team.
Good luck and best wishes to everyone involved in this great opportunity!

If you are open for suggestions, please contact Terry Goodkind and see if you can get the rights to print his Sword Of Truth series in comic format. I would absolutely pick up a Wizards First Rule comic adaptation.

So y'all our going with the previous order numbers for Anita Blake.
Was talking to my LCS owner and he hadn't heard anything about any october shipping titles yet. Will y'all be doing a big promotional push for the next few weeks to get the word to the Anita Blake fans to find their LCS's and let them know they want the books.

Oh, and there's a book called Dragon Precinct by Keith R.A. DeCandido that would be incredible as a comic. Hill Street Blues meets Lord Of the Rings.

LOL at that statement about the LKH fans, Arvandor!!! But on the flip side of that, we're just a wee bit different from the traditional comic fans so the industry needs to prepare for US! :D
Team DB has been unbelievable with regards to all of us rabid LKH fans that are also comic noobs! They've all but used hand puppets so we can understand the gestation period and birth of the ABVH comics. And I'm talking about month after month of questions posed to them (with endless repeats) and they still patiently explain everything to us. I have yet to encounter one person on Team DB that didn't go out of their way to accomodate the LKH fans.
Brett Booth's artwork is truly amazing! What blows my mind is that, even though the characters are not exactly as I pictured them (and trust me when I tell you everyone pictures them differently), they are still absolutely spot-on perfect! And Stacie Ritchie has left the core of LKH's extraordinarily descriptive writing style intact but has allowed Brett's artwork to complete each story. They've heard the LKH fans when an important detail or two were a bit "off", but for the most part, we (the LKH fans) have just been in awe of their interpretations. I am so very excited about this project!
And now, with the Marvel partnership, DB can concentrate on what they do best--- being a top notch creative team--- and they can let the well oiled Marvel marketing and distribution machines handle all the minutia of getting their creation into the hands of fans old and new.

Glad to see you guys getting back on track. Now if only you can work out the New Spring/Robert Jordan rights. Those first few books were gorgeous.
Here's my dumb question: I believe at least the Anita Blake books were solicted at a $2.95 price point. I know that most Marvel books are $2.99. What will the price point be for these resolicited books?
Thanks much.

2 - Perhaps this could be just the thing to get GRRM to write a comic for Marvel...
I must disagree here, GRRM should be spending all his time working on the next Song of Ice and Fire Books! Though some adaptations of his work in the Wild Cards series would be sweet.
Anyways, congrats to all the guys at DBPro! Can't wait for the Sworn Sword.

1 - Well, he is hard at work on "A Dance With Dragons"...
and
2 - There have been some adaptations of Wild Cards in comic book form. I believe (but i might be wrong) that they were released by Epic.
If GRRM were to write a Marvel comic, i'd love to see him write Fantastic Four, which is a personal favourite of his!

So are you not gonna reprint the 2 issues of Mag Apprent. or Red Prohpet that have already come out? I can only imangine LCS's will order more with the marvel logo, than originally, and i think those series might suffer with only starting at #3(Both have been steller). I know i'd buy them anyways and i already have the originals.

We are releasing in a collected format for issues 1 and 2 of both Red Prophet and Magician in October. In November issue 3 of each title comes out.

We are putting it out where it will shine and do the best for us. It doesn't make sense for us to have two Card books coming out at the same time...But don't worry its going to be worth the wait. I am happy you like it so much you are getting mad you have to wait. That shows us we are doing a good job creating passion for our projects.
