<I>Press Release</i>
<blockquote>CMX, the manga imprint of DC Comics, announces plans to publish GON, from renowned writer/artist Masashi Tanaka, for release in 2007.
Long before the dawn of Man, savage dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Now, only one remains — the smallest, yet wildest of them all. GON marches across the wilderness defending the friendly and furry from the mean and hungry. Told entirely without words, the lushly illustrated adventures of GON highlight the amazingly detailed art and visual storytelling genius of creator Masashi Tanaka. An instant sensation in Japan where these comics adventures first appeared, the series returns to U.S. shores with this collection.
The first six volumes of GON were originally published in the U.S. by DC’s Paradox Press imprint from 1992-2002. The reformatted version published by CMX will be introduced at $5.99 (subject to change).</blockquote>

Subject to change? $5.99 is subject to change? Does anyone even care about CMX these days?

Does that mean that this is just the same stuff reprinted again? That really does seem to be the favorite pastime of the major publishers lately... New stuff I would buy. Same stuff again just in a different shape, no way.

Since the older printings are out of print, DC is technically just brining the volumes back in print, at a smaller format and cheaper price. Also, I think there are more than just 6 volumes for the Gon series, so there will be new material somewhere down the road.

Librarians care about CMX, especially when they publish cool stuff like Megatokyo and now GON. My old copies of GON used to circulate like crazy (for you nonlibrarians, it means the book got checked out - a lot), until they wore out. This is good news to me, and the price means it's affordable for libraries that are extremely strapped with slashed budgets.

$5.99 is subject to change? Why, yes! If you pay for it with a $5 bill and four quarters, you'll be subject to one cent in change.

(PS: For those who have not seen it - Gon is good stuff, wordless action with interesting animal art. Adults can appreciate the storytelling, young kids should appreciate the power fantasies about the dynamic little dinosaur taking on the world. I'm not much of a manga follower at this point, but this I'll recommend.)

I love that little guy. Tanaka's storytelling is incredible, and I'll be sure to pick this up.

I really hope that they print the volumes that Paradox Press never got to. I own all of the US Gon comics already, but since I'm a format freak, a habitual lender, and the price is low I will probably buy all of these.
Interesting note, Gon is impossible to find in Japanese book stores also. So, the US will actually be a leg up on their Japanese coutner parts when Gon comes out.
