Though his conventions have been plagued with bad luck in their earlier days, Marc Nathan took the fire alarm at the Baltimore Comic-Con on Saturday in stride.

“We’re not sure what exactly happened,” Nathan told Newsarama. “But from what I’ve heard, a sprinkler went off in one of the rooms on the other side of the convention center. The fire department had to come and turn off the water, but before they could get here there was another emergency they were responding to, which delayed them in getting here.”

The entire convention hall was quickly emptied around 11:15 am when the alarm went off, with guests leading the way, followed by dealers and exhibitors once they were sure their booths were secured. Though the Comic-Con quickly emptied out of its hall, it was still 20 minutes before there was any sign that people were going to be allowed back in.

“The meeting at the other hall had thousands and thousands of more people, so they took much longer to get out,” Nathan said. By 11:38, the convention staff was allowing dealers back into the hall, and by 11:45, the convention floor was once again open to all guests.

“Just another day, just another convention,” Nathan concluded with a smile.

In San Diego, a guy and his buddies came in during an Animation Show screening and started smoking pot. The cieling was so high, that about 15 minutes after they left, the alarm went off. Good times were had by all.

...and George Perez walked outside, put his back to a pillar, and started signing autographs.

What a classy guy. The show was lots of fun today - thanks all for doing such a great job.

Anyone wanna take odds a Wizard World staffer pulled the fire alarm?

Seriously though, glad it wasn't serious at all. That's the one thing that concerns me at these big events. what happens if there's a fire. Sounds like it was nice and orderly and everyone was safe.

I saw this and can confirm this is no joke.

That is why Perez is a god amongst men. :)

It was the perfect opportunity to pop back to the car, drop off comics that had been autographed, lighten the load, and grab an almost early lunch (I found a Cosi sandwich shop that filled up behind me about 2 minutes after I walked in because the convention in the other hall had made its way down!).

Great show. Great guests. As always.

We're so used to hearing about the fire marshall closing down a comic book convention this year that this story is a refreshing change of pace.

Wasn't really a scare, just an obnoxious annoyance.

On the plus side, I spent the whole time outside chatting with the magnificent Dan Slott, so it ended up working out just fine for me.

It was nothing more than jus an annoyance, but like they said, the other half of the building had thousands of peeps in it, and us comic geeks being of one mind thinking that hall was jus for us, found our jaws hitting the ground when this literal parade of people jus kept coming and coming and coming.................
Still one hell of a great show tho.
