Though his conventions have been plagued with bad luck in their earlier days, Marc Nathan took the fire alarm at the Baltimore Comic-Con on Saturday in stride.
“We’re not sure what exactly happened,” Nathan told Newsarama. “But from what I’ve heard, a sprinkler went off in one of the rooms on the other side of the convention center. The fire department had to come and turn off the water, but before they could get here there was another emergency they were responding to, which delayed them in getting here.”
The entire convention hall was quickly emptied around 11:15 am when the alarm went off, with guests leading the way, followed by dealers and exhibitors once they were sure their booths were secured. Though the Comic-Con quickly emptied out of its hall, it was still 20 minutes before there was any sign that people were going to be allowed back in.
“The meeting at the other hall had thousands and thousands of more people, so they took much longer to get out,” Nathan said. By 11:38, the convention staff was allowing dealers back into the hall, and by 11:45, the convention floor was once again open to all guests.
“Just another day, just another convention,” Nathan concluded with a smile.
