I'm currently reading a whole bunch of Omega Men back issues, which was my only experience with Lobo until tonight when I caught up in 52. In Omega Men, Lobo is a Velorpian who multiplies when he dies and whose race was wiped out by the Psions. In 52 he's a Czerian who killed all his own people. What's the deal?

as far as i know. lobo has always been able to reform from a single drop of blood, and he killed his entire race for fun.

I always though Lobo was a Czerian. I like that version far more than what you described. It seemed a little too much.

I'm pretty fond of the one from Omega Men. I think I understand the rationale behind changing it to him killing his own race, but why change the name of the race?

I always was aware of the Czerian and thats it. And he's always been able to re-form, thats how we got the craptacular Slo-bo.

I must be the only person who's read Omega Men #20 (I guess that's not a huge suprise)

Actually it was Omega Men #3.
And he's always been from Czarnian

That was his debut (I have that one too) but in number 20 he explains how the Psions made a crooked pack with his fellow Velorpians to study them, leading to the race's extinction.

Well every biography I've read says he's Czarnian.

I've noticed, which is why this issue of him being Velorpian with the Psions eliminating them is bugging me. I swear I'm not making this up (I don't have a scanner or I'd post the pages). Not that it matters which he is, but I find it weird that no record (for lack of a better word) exists of this alternate origin.

His Wiki entry doesnt even mention the Psions. It does mention him in LEGION and Omega Men.

I know! I guess I should just forget I ever read this issue, everyone else in the world seems to have.

Or you could add to the Wiki.
But you're just probably delusional. Hopped up on some sort of barbituate, you junkie bastard.

I could add to Wiki -- I've never done that before, but doesn't your entry have to be approved by other people or something? And since I'm the only one who has read this, wouldn't that mean others would consider it untrue? I better keep that barbituate thing under wraps to maintain my credibility. Perhaps then I'll have a shot.

More like a retcon, not a reboot. Giffen used him in JLI in 1988 and he already wasn't the same character. Read Lobo: The Last Czarnian by Giffen, Grant and Bisley (1990 or 91) for more information. That's where he truly became a star.
In 52 he's a Czerian
You better learn the correct name of his planet or the Main Man won't be happy with you. ;)

Your correction may be corrected by others in the future but there's no process of approval. You go in and edit the entry. That's all.

Well, Omega Men isn't exactly famous. Lobo's appearances there were just a few of issues. And since then, he's had many, many appearances (his own series for 5 years, miniseries, one-shots, cameos...) saying he's a Czarnian that killed his entire race.
Not even his chronology in http://www.dcuguide.com/chronology.php?name=lobo has those issues and it's one if not the most complete list you'll find.

His first mini series, which had the Czarian origin, came out in '90, which is post-Crisis. So that would automatically take precedence over anything pre-Crisis.
To answer the original question: yeah he probably had a minor reboot due to CoIE.

The issue does date 1984.
Well played.
Thanks
