Damn, that was probably the best Jonah Hex issue yet. Beautiful art and just a damn fine story. I don't know if I've read any El Diablo stories, but I may have to check some out.
Also, this issue was just packed with story. Some of the prior issues, even though they were complete stories, read pretty quickly. This one really had some meat to it.

This issue defenitly brought the meat. It was my 1st issu ever w/ Hex and I'll def be back for more. Im going to track some back issues tomorrow. Do they ever say how his face got messed up? Probably in issue #1?
Great art
Great western tale.

They never say how he got messed up. I don't think any story ever did. The first story, if I remember correctly, ties directly into this one, so they're deffinately building a nice continuity.
There is going to be a three part story though explaining the oirign of Hex drawn by European great Jordi Bernet. If anyone has seen his SOLO, it should be great.
Also, I think they're coming out with a trade soon too, but I don't know when that'll come out.
I think they should have El Diablo back ups every now and then. Two completely different men, but with similar demons. It could get real interesting.
Almost forgot, great issue. I certainly hope they can get Beck as the regular artist, or the most recurring. That man was made for this.

Reading through the Showcase (and this current series), whenever somebody asks him how his face got like that, he always has a different answer. They ranged from shaving accident to my personal favorite, having trouble with spoons.

After each issue I keep saying "This was the best issue yet!" and I'm starting to wonder how Justin and JImmy can just keep getting better. I honestly fear for the day when they hit a pinnacle and can go no further. Pray that it never happens.
Its a silly little thing but you know what I loved best about this issue? The sound effects. They did such a good job with the whip sound effects that I could just hear them in my head. Its a nice touch that too few creators do nowadays.

Jonah Hex, first series, #8 has that story. Apache torture if I recall correctly. The guy sure gets tortured a lot and his retribution is quick and sure.

Great issue! I love the referencing to my second favorite western character: Bat Lash.
The only thing that I don't remember: Lazarus was, originally, a parapalegic, unable to move, until the "spirit" of El Diablo animated his corpse-like body...and, he also had a "love" interest during the Tony Dezunga days. Has that been reconned out or was there an operation that allowed Lazarus to move/operate? It's possible I missed/forgot some of his history over the years.
