Is smallville part of the superman movies continuity?
I say no.

Seems pretty clear that it's not. No more than the Animated Series or any other iteration.

Damn! No one's voted yes yet. Smallville isn't a part of movie continuity. Smallville has some elements that are similar, like the Phanton Zone and the Fortress, but as far as I know, Smallville isn't a part of the movie continuity.

The movie is not the show. The show is not the cartoon. The cartoon is not the comic. The comic is not the movie. The movie is not the cartoon. The comic is not the show.

Looks like someone finally voted a YES.....tho' it seems only to get a vote for that option, and not because of any other reason.

And not even all the movies are part of the same continuity. You have one continuity of Superman 1-4, and you have another continuity of Superman 1, 2, Returns.

No, it isn't, but the producers of Smallville deliberately started skewing their continuity towards the films so that the show COULD be backstory for Superman Returns. It wouldn't fit with Superman I - IV, but it could (sorta) work with SR.

How could it not work with I-IV, but work with SR? SR follows right after I and II.

Right, but the events happening over in Smallville are starting to mirror those that occurred in the first two films (crystals creating the Fortress of Solitude, General Zod escaping from the Phantom Zone, Clark's dad dying, etc). Too many of the same events have happened that occurred in the first two films for it to jive with I-IV, but it COULD match up to the vague history referenced in SR.

jedi... SR is a sequel to I and II. So if it can't jive with I-IV it can't jive with I, II, and SR.

Think of it this way: SR referenced events that occurred in Superman I & II. Many of those same events that are referenced have also occurred on Smallville (just not in the same order). In a nutshell, SR could exist in both continuities. I never said it could jive with I & II, just SR.

SR is not a direct sequel to 1 and 2.
They are "vague history/bacjrground"
Meaning, he took what he wanted and ignored the rest. He wants young Clark to have glasses? he gives it to him.
he wants to ignore that the Smallville stuff in 1 took place in the 50s, he does.
He wants to play with the idea Clark and Lois slept together, he does it.

Also General Zod, Ursa, and Non and everything they did in Superman II doesn't exist in Superman Returns.

Is there any particular reason why it should be part of the continuity?
