Alright, I'm going to start off by saying that I really like Bendis' work. USM and NA are two of my favorite series. However, the dialogue in Powers so far has started to bug me. The whole "back and forth" thing just comes across as jerky and unnatural, and it hardly seems like any of the characters manage to get a complete thought across. Plus it makes it hard to tell what's going on when the dialogue consists of "Did he-" "yep, he sure-" "wow, that's-" "yeah I know."

Like I said, not to bag on Bendis in general, I really like his work otherwise, but this bugs me a little.

Powers was one of the first things by Bendis I read, when the first trade came out, and I've always found the dialogue to have a very natural feel to it. i like the way characters talk over each other and interupt each other, just like in real conversations. Takes a bit of getting used to I think though.

I'm a huge Bendis fan, but whenever I read Who Killed Retro Girl, it always feels like he was working out the kinks in his Mamet/Sorkin dialogue.

Sorry, but it doesn't get better... I just love it that way, Powers volume one is the best Bendis so far.

I think it was initially Oeming's take on the book that made me pick up the first ish, after that and reading Daredevil, I got to be a Bendis fan as well. I think for me, the dialog is what hooked me, it was like someone was writng down a taped conversation between myself and a bunch of friends.

I normally don't pick up trades of books i already have the monthy/single issues for, but I make a few exceptions and POWERS (along with Astro City) fits in that category.

Reminds me of the dialogue in the first Sam & Twitch series (and the current one) or Jinx. I think it is very cool to bring that detective story feel into the world of the superpowered. Powers is one of the best reads out there...really cool of Newsarama to put it online...can't wait for the origin issues...

DIG the dialogue! It stunned me because nothing else sounded much like it when I discovered the book. That, plus while it was a challenge to follow the flow sometimes, until I got used to the timing, style, and voice, it made me read closely and even re-read.
